Atari and Sony plan to release a follow-up to last year's million-selling Ghostbusters: The Videogame in the spring of next year, according to a new report.

Ghostbusters: Sanctum of Slime is a PC, PlayStation Network and Xbox Live downloadable game in which players assume the role of the rookie from Terminal Reality's effort, the USA Today reports.

It's in development at Chilean studio Wanako, whose last game was arcade top-down shooter Assault Heroes 2 for Xbox Live Arcade.

Sanctum of Slime is a four-player adventure game playable locally or online. Gigantic bosses are promised, and, of course, proton packs. First screens are below.

None of the actors who appeared in the films feature, so you won't hear the voice talents of the likes of Bill Murray and Dan Ackroyd, but you will be able to drive the Ecto-3. Nee nar!

I'm quite interested in this...Looks like its top down twin stick shooter . Think if they largely keep the catching mechanics in place rather than it being a pure shooter then it will be pretty cool. People may be disappointed that the voice actors from the films won't be in but its clearly a lower budget title and with that in mind its hardly surprising that they aren't. Also if I remember rightly at the end of the last game there was a mention of them franchising the Ghostbusters business paving the way for the new recruit to set up his own branch of Ghostbusters....

Oh fuck yeah! This is a totally great direction for the series. Really enjoyed the first game, although some of the mechanics were pretty bust, it was still great. Would love a multiplayer ghostbusters game, because a lot of the ghost trapping tactics were based around working with the other characters, which, unfortunately, were at the whims of pretty lame AI. Haven't finished the game yet though.

I didn't even realise a ghostbusters game came out last year...

It was actually quite good, although rather short. And the last two levels were awful - there was nothing to destroy and it was essentially any old 3rd Person Shooter in those levels. All the charm was going through the locations, smashing everything and capturing the ghosts.

The voice acting was great, too.

Just found out this is out next week on the 23rd (on my Birthday, thanks Atari). Will definitely be picking this up, though it's been quiet since it's original announcement (or have I not been paying enough attention?).

Anyone else getting it?
