Graphically it looks a bit more like a sequel to Nitro, but from the info it does seems to be more the HD versions.

The Wii version seems to have completely different tracks/locations.

Lack of online racing is crap!

This looks appalling. When Activision can give us full versions of their big name games and exclsuives like Goldeneye, why do EA always do this to the Wii with games like Need for Speed and NBA Jam?

This game makes me appreciate Activison's efforts on the Wii even more. I'll have some gameplay video up in a bit.

Oh ok, this game can fuck right off!! This looks like an Early Dreamcast game in terms of visuals, MSR or Crazy Taxi, even worse maybe!

When the Gamecube was capable of the beautiful Burnout 2 and great crash damage etc... there's no way they can expect us to accept this crap!

Thanks for the gameplay vids Boomstick. Confirmed what I expected - it's shit. Shame, as I really enjoyed Nitro and thought they had finally made something they could build on. Never mind, money for Sonic instead. :)

Watching those vids...God, what happened to the speed? I can hear the nitro but it's having zero impact on the game! At least in the last one it had an impressive turn of speed. EAlol.

MSR on the Dreamcast looks better than this. Been a long time since I've played it but I remember it looking very nice, with really well done car models and locations given the hardware. This just looks awful. Worse than Nitro. Should have expected as much anyway. Exient were developing and while they seem to have a grasp of developing the Need for Speed titles for the DS, they clearly don't have the know-how to do it on the Wii.

And I'm not simply complaining about the visuals. Gameplay-wise, it looks sedate and average at best. It's amazing to think that this is what we get in a Need for Speed title on the Wii when you consider what the Gamecube games were like. Baffling how they can't make it look as good as those and then retain the gameplay which is going into the other versions.

So, one Tuesday I got sent a (late) review copy of this on the Wii. Wasn't interested in it in the slightest but a review copy must be reviewed so I stuck it in earlier and gave it a spin.

And as expected, it's not great. It just screens average in every respect, visuals, graphics, controls, and gameplay. It seems to have an identity crisis as it looks as though they've tried to make it a realistic racer, or more realistic to bring it in line with the PC/360/PS3 version, but half way through they decided they should stick to the template of last year's Nitro game and as such, it feels like a bit of a mess as it's nothing like the gameplay in the other versions, rather a purely arcade style racer. Granted, there are worse racing games on the Wii but there are also better. Even last year's Nitro had more character than this and was more enjoyable, although issues from that game have been thoughtfully carried over to this game. Thanks Exient

Really, why EA couldn't create a new Nitro game and fine what was there last year I have no idea. So disappointing especially when I keep hearing how good the other versions are. I was expecting much from this anyway, and knew it wouldn't match up to the other versions, but it's just so average that it makes you wonder why they haven't built on the engines used in the Gamecube Need for Speed titles for the Wii to get something like those going.

Look how floaty the cars are, what a joke, surely the wii can do the same menus as the 360 version at least they look good. It's bizarre how crap and lazy games designers can be some times.

I just don't get why Criterion didn't handle this themselves. Surely they could have had a small team work on it, and adapt the Burnout 2 engine for it?

They're quite a small company. DICE needed to chip in to help with the main version of Hot Pursuit.

Maybe, but they could've just given one guy the Burnout 2 engine and let him change the menu and tracks and shit and it'd still be better than this.
