darksnowman Posted February 28, 2010 Posted February 28, 2010 Jet Force Gemini [GBC - Cancelled] A GameBoy Color version of Jet Force Gemini was in development at Rare in 2000, but it was cancelled in the end. The original JFG is a third-person shooter / action adventure published for the Nintendo 64 in October 1999, but the GBC version was never officially announced. We were able to know about this cancelled project only thanks to Dano2k0 from the Assembler Forum, that found a playable prototype and shared some screens with the community. Rare released 2 other GameBoy Color games based on their Nintendo 64 titles, Perfect Dark and Conker’s Pocket Tales, that were received with low interest by gamers: we could speculate that their third GameBoy Color “N64 port†was canned for this reason or for quality issues. Jet Force Gemini GBC was going to have an isometric 2D view, while the gameplay was probably going to be “similar†to the N64 version, with lots of shooting and insects to kill. http://www.unseen64.net/2010/02/28/jet-force-gemini-game-boy-color-cancelled/ Didn't know about that.
flameboy Posted February 28, 2010 Posted February 28, 2010 I vaguely remember hearing about it...never really enjoyed the N64 one.
Hero-of-Time Posted February 28, 2010 Posted February 28, 2010 Nice find! I loved the original and to this day I still pray for a release via the VC or XBLA. Does Rare or Nintendo own the rights to JFG as I would love to see a sequel?
welsh_gamer Posted February 28, 2010 Posted February 28, 2010 I vaguely remember hearing about it...never really enjoyed the N64 one. Likewise - in N64 magazine with the Conker GBC game methinks.
Cube Posted February 28, 2010 Posted February 28, 2010 I loved the original and to this day I still pray for a release via the VC or XBLA. Does Rare or Nintendo own the rights to JFG as I would love to see a sequel? Rare own the rights to all the characters and franchises they created, minus Donkey Kong ones. So it'll likely eventually reach the XBLA.
STOOPIDDITTIES Posted February 28, 2010 Posted February 28, 2010 I'd likely get an XBLA release of the original as it was one of the few great games I never played on the N64. As for this, I'd rather see the cartridge and a video than a few stills. It could just as easily be homemade.
LegoMan1031 Posted March 1, 2010 Posted March 1, 2010 I 2 loved the original and would very much like to see it appear again on XBLA, maybe even a second in the future? The time it has taken them to release Perfect Dark on XBLA (not long now!!!) we might be waiting a long time before another Rare game makes it way to the service.
