It's sort of a new PSP. I'd say it's a half-step up from a PSP but not a new handheld, like the GBA was from the GBC. No more UMD, going solely for digital distribution instead.

Would there be a PSP2 soon?

Thats not a good analogy, the GBA and GBC ran different software. More like GBA to GBA SP

or DS to DSi.

I really want one of these but that price is a barrier, although the lower software prices could make up for it

canand there won't a PSP 2 for a while I don't think. Sony has talked about giving the PSP a 10 year life span so the PSP Go still has some way to go. To answer your question it is more a PSP 4000 that a true successor. Think the same as the jump between DS to DSi...

I sent a e-mail to sony and they said the PSP Go is a new evolution of PSP what does that mean and they said yeah you can still get UMD Games.

I asked my great step-aunt if the PSP Go could play Gamecube games and she said that she thinks it can.

your a smart arse tw@t sometimes aren't you? If you want a portable gamecube make yourself one of these;

canand yes games will still come on UMD for those with older PSP models but if you have a PSP Go you will have to download the games onto the device.
