Jav_NE Posted March 10, 2009 Posted March 10, 2009 Hey guys, I needa good cheap memory stick as my one just snapped in half It was one of those cheap 2GB ones from WHsmiths. Anyway, i've always wanted one with more memory so do you guys know of any good ones? 16GB would be good. I've seen some for about £25, but never heard of the manufacturer. Does it matter much who makes it? WHSmiths have Sony ones for £25.99, thought that might be good. http://www.whsmith.co.uk/CatalogAndSearch/ProductDetails-Sony+16GB+USB+Stick+-33621081.html Out of stock at the mo but i might check in store tomorrow. Any recommendations?
Retro_Link Posted March 10, 2009 Posted March 10, 2009 http://www.play.com/PC/PCs/4-/6059462/SanDisk-Cruzer-Micro-16GB-USB-Flash-Drive/Product.html http://www.play.com/PC/PCs/4-/3431735/Play-com-16GB-USB-Flash-Drive/Product.html I've had the 4gb version of the play.com branded one, and it's always been fantastic.
Raining_again Posted March 10, 2009 Posted March 10, 2009 That first one Retro linked to is good.. I bought it for my da. The only thing is its stiff to remove from teh port - so much so I was scared of breaking it. Plus the one my dad has has that awful U3 software on it. I have this one and its bloody awesome. (£18) And bytestor are awesome (made by toshiba - I think?) I have 3 or 4 of them and not once have they failed or broken. Yay.
Retro_Link Posted March 10, 2009 Posted March 10, 2009 As far as I know these see-through blue ones that you see on loads of sites are exactly the same, they just get re-branded. My play.com one has been great, and Raining says hers has been great, so they are a good bet... play has it cheapest I think.
Jav_NE Posted March 10, 2009 Author Posted March 10, 2009 (edited) That ByteStor one looks the same as the second Play one that Retro posted, only with their logo on instead?! I think i might give one of them a go. Dont trust the Play one as much as the ByteStor, unless it is actually the same. I also dont like the look of the SanDisk. My one that broke was one that you slide out like that, so i just dont trust them anymore. - Edit - you nipped in before me :p The RRP's are vey different though =/ Edited March 10, 2009 by Jav_NE
Raining_again Posted March 10, 2009 Posted March 10, 2009 If its the same price its likely to be the same thing. I'd be more concerned if there was a £5 difference rather than £1 :P Amazon were doing that bytestor for £16 when I bought it!
Jav_NE Posted March 10, 2009 Author Posted March 10, 2009 I meant where it says how much you save though. The Play one says the RRP is £20 but Amazon says £40 odd. Meh, went with Play as they do free delivery and it was slightly cheaper. Hope it comes soon. Thanks for your help

Nothing ever gets sold for the RRP haha. Let us know how it goes when you get eet ^^
Pantsu Man! Posted March 11, 2009 Posted March 11, 2009 I bought one a while back, basically the same design as the play.com picture above, Fujifilm 8GB for £15 maybe less. The 16GB was only under double that aswell. Oh yeah website, http://www.7dayshop.com
Mr_Odwin Posted March 11, 2009 Posted March 11, 2009 I just bought (day before yesterday so not yet received it) an OCZ Diesel 16GB for £23.27 including p&p. I read around and this got good reviews and has quick transfer speeds (not all memory sticks are as quick as each other). http://www.ocztechnology.com/products/flash_drives/ocz_diesel_usb_2_0_flash_drive http://www.testfreaks.com/blog/review/ocz-diesel-16gb-usb-20-flash-drive/ http://www.ebuyer.com/product/147486
Jav_NE Posted March 11, 2009 Author Posted March 11, 2009 Hmm, well the Play one certainly seems to be the cheapest so i'm glad i went for that one. Has got good reviews so will have to see how it goes. I wont be using it to stream video or anything, just transferring them to the PS3 for watching, and store some stuff obviously but, as long as the speed is decent enough to copy a film fairly speedily then i'll be happy. I saw some whilst searching for £300-400! Like, what the hell?! 16GB for that, jesus. It's a memory stick for God's sake, how advanced can it get?! You could get a giant HDD for that price! Hell you could even get a new laptop.
Ten10 Posted March 11, 2009 Posted March 11, 2009 As far as I know the play.com drives are re-branded integral ones, great performance very recommended, portable apps works a dream on them. I've got the whole suite and a php server and never had any problems.
Choze Posted March 12, 2009 Posted March 12, 2009 You can also get the M2 or smaller and just use adaptors to make them larger. I think speed egnerally tends to be better on the Pro duo though. Check mymemory.co.uk as well.
