Choze Posted March 24, 2009 Author Posted March 24, 2009 Is it really worth buying? I would have to get a PS2 aswell >.> Yes. Ofcourse. Didnt realise people without PS2 existed. You are missing out on too much.
Choze Posted March 28, 2009 Author Posted March 28, 2009 Going to play this. They really should do one online.
The Lillster Posted March 28, 2009 Posted March 28, 2009 I havn't got very far, I want to play it but i've been ill for a few days.
flameboy Posted March 28, 2009 Posted March 28, 2009 Yes. Ofcourse. Didnt realise people without PS2 existed. You are missing out on too much. Yep I owned a cube and xbox, couldn't justify owning 3 consoles...much like now just can't bring myself to buy a 360..
Choze Posted March 29, 2009 Author Posted March 29, 2009 Yep I owned a cube and xbox, couldn't justify owning 3 consoles...much like now just can't bring myself to buy a 360.. Well i say get one. There is a tremendous back catalogue. I probably play more PS2 than Wii lol.
Aimless Posted April 3, 2009 Posted April 3, 2009 I got this yesterday and put about 5-6 hours of playtime in. The pace was rather glacial to begin with, but by the end of my session things had opened up considerably and I was able to go and do my own thing. The story was interesting and the localisation seemed up to scratch. It still bears many of the hallmarks of its origins, namely in the characters' tendencies to be incredibly slow — "This situation is incredibly like a situation we encountered earlier, but for some reason I'm still surprised and exclamatory!" — but then very few games have the confidence to assume their audience is paying attention, so I suppose a certain amount of expounding the obvious is to be expected. Anyway, I was looking forward to going back to do a bit of levelling and my damned save file has disappeared! I can only assume it's in some way related to playing the game on my PS3, so it looks like I'm going to have to dig the ol' PS2 out and start from scratch. It's really taken the wind out of my sails, though; as a general rule I won't play a JRPG more than once, so having to start again has really killed my motivation.
Choze Posted April 3, 2009 Author Posted April 3, 2009 Yikes. It picks up alot after the start as it opens up. You kind of have to get the motions at first.
chairdriver Posted April 3, 2009 Posted April 3, 2009 I got it this week, and have played it for about 2 hours, and only just got to the first real battle. It feels lovely. Loads of characterization/developement. And swearing when you would realistically swear. It's quite funny too. Loads of option for changing your relationship with the different characters. I chose to be really nice to the uncle (is it just me, or is he really hot), and a massive bastard to the little girl cousin. I kinda hate so far how there's no freedom in the game. Its a very structured storyline so far - no room to have fun. And the storyline seems a bit badly written in that it was really obvious that the Newsreader was going to get killed/ she'd be important in some way - she was mentioned about 10 times in as many minutes at the start of the game. And the fact Junes is mentioned a bit too much - and the famous inn - its obvious they both have too much relevance to the story at hand. What I'm trying to say is that it's not subtle at all. Also annoys me how Chie has "RPG main character" syndrome. She is the only person in the whole school wearing green. I laughed out loud when I first saw her on screen, because it was ridiculously obvious she'll join your party later on. And the characters are ridiculously slow on the uptake. They basically have a 10 minute long conversation about how they can't believe that the announcer and Saki-senpai were both killed, while anyone watching could have easily predicted it. I hate the in-game graphics too. I wish it were more anime like the cut-scenes and the illustrations of the characters when they talk. But so far, so good. I'll defo play more, if only to see what happens in the story. It's kinda like a Japanese Twin Peaks.
The Lillster Posted July 13, 2009 Posted July 13, 2009 What are the best ways to level up, I don't like fighting weak enemies for hours on end?
Hero-of-Time Posted July 20, 2009 Posted July 20, 2009 I finally got around to starting this today ( got a week of work ) and i've put about 2 hours into it ( just got Jiraiya ) and so far nothing has really happened. I have spent most of the time just watching the storyline and hitting X to get the next speech bubble started. How long until the actual game/fighting starts? I am however liking Yosuke, he is funny as hell. Critical hit to the nads FTW!!
Domstercool Posted July 20, 2009 Posted July 20, 2009 The game uses the first 2 hours to introduce you to everything, and trust me it's needed. This RPG is so damn good though, best for a LOOONNGGG time.
killer kirby Posted July 20, 2009 Posted July 20, 2009 This RPG is so damn good though, best for a LOOONNGGG time. Persona 3 says hi Oh and Persona 2 is still the best out of the lot xD (But all of the Persona games are awesome ^_^ )
The Lillster Posted July 20, 2009 Posted July 20, 2009 No tips for me then? I've put this on hold for the time being, because I accidently deleted the wrong memory card on my PS3. I'm playing Mother 3 on GBA at the moment, you should all check that out. (Theres an translation patch).
killer kirby Posted July 20, 2009 Posted July 20, 2009 No tips for me then? Should have replied to your quote, sorry, but just like in a lot of RPGs, the best way to gain more exp...fight stronger monsters Or try mixing some persona's so you can get some stronger ones. Oh another hint is the arcarna special thing you get when you succeed in a shuffle, if you get it it boosts the amount of exp you get for a limited amount of battles. Forgot what arcarna it was again though sorry.

Hero-of-Time Posted July 20, 2009 Posted July 20, 2009 Finally! The game is starting to free up now I have just received Chie's Persona and have now got the option of taking various classes to upgrade my stats. Are there any stats I should be trying to raise early on in the game? I still haven't a clue what to do with all of these cards and links that keep getting mentioned. Do these get explained more fully later on because at the moment im a little confused Basically there seems to be alot going on in terms of the weather, school schedule, stat raising etc and im getting a little overwhelmed. Any tips on how to go about playing will be appreciated Oh, and everytime Reach Out to the Truth kicks in during a fight I tend to get a little hyper
Domstercool Posted July 21, 2009 Posted July 21, 2009 Basically you'll want to try get your 5 stats up as much as possible. Courage is one you should aim for straight away. Just keep learning and hanging with your teamates first to get the benefits in battle, trust me you'll love it when your teammates get to self revive when they are at max s link.
Hero-of-Time Posted July 21, 2009 Posted July 21, 2009 Cheers Dom I have joined the Basketball team now and decided to head into the castle to do abit of snooping around and just when things couldn't get any more complicated they introduce the shuffle system. I take it these cards are used for fusions? Was I supposed to go and try to get Yuki this early on? I got to the 3rd floor and the monsters started owning me so I had to get the hell out of there! Whats with the lack of save points when your in the actual castle?
Domstercool Posted July 21, 2009 Posted July 21, 2009 You have like 3 weeks to save a person before they die. So if you don't make it up on your first attempt, just do some levelling then try again. Finishing it before the 3 weeks just means you have more freetime after you save her to do other stuff. I joined the football team myself when I played it. The cards are Personas you get from battle, so you can now equip those you get from the cards. You should also stick them in the velvet rooms compendium, so when you kick them out of your team, you can still buy them back in the velvet room, great when fusion personas
Hero-of-Time Posted July 21, 2009 Posted July 21, 2009 Thanks again. Luckly I have found an awesome guide on the net, its doing a great job of explaining everything to me ( much better than what the game has been doing ) its 177 pages long though, just printed off the first 27...
killer kirby Posted July 21, 2009 Posted July 21, 2009 Luckly I have found an awesome guide on the net, its doing a great job of explaining everything to me ( much better than what the game has been doing ) its 177 pages long though, just printed off the first 27... Nooo, don't do that, ruins the fun of the game imo >_< Creating new persona's and using trail and error is one of the awesome aspects of the game and the main reason why Persona 3 and Persona 4 are over 100 hours each because of the awesome fusing ^_^
Hero-of-Time Posted July 21, 2009 Posted July 21, 2009 Ive spent around 5-6 hours on the game now and its just not clicking with me. I don't like the whole going to school/getting a job/checking the weather/jumping into TV/jumping out of TV/fusing/go to bed/repeat thing thats going on. I just want a decent storyline and be able to go about dungeons/world maps etc at my own pace while doing a bit of grinding and then progress the story when im good and ready. I can't see me lasting much longer with the game, clearly this series isn't for me.
Domstercool Posted July 21, 2009 Posted July 21, 2009 That's a total shame as Persona 3/4 are the best RPGs that have hit the market since the PSX era. Totally fantastic story telling with brilliant characters. I just wouldn't have it any other way. The school is part of the whole living in the world of Persona. Meeting the kids and learning new stuff through s linking with them.
killer kirby Posted July 22, 2009 Posted July 22, 2009 good and ready. I can't see me lasting much longer with the game, clearly this series isn't for me. If there is one game of the series you should try playing it's Persona 2 Innocent Sins on the PS1. Story is the best one of the lot I think, battle system is very unique, and the way the whole game plays out is very well done. There is a fan translation of the game so it's not hard to play it now ^_^ (Persona 2 is also completely different to Persona 3 and 4 in terms of going through the game day by day and going to school etc etc...More of a go here now go over to the next part of the city)
