Then there is the official Sony Bluetooth Headset bundle I am not really one for posting new threads, but I could not find any reviews on t'internet. It is getting mixed reader reviews on various forums and websites. There seems to be a few issues with the servers, but this is likely to get patched in the coming weeks. Play.com are selling this with the official Sony Headset for £29.99. http://www.play.com/Games/PlayStation3/4-/5800722/-/Product.html?searchstring=socom+ps3&searchsource=0 Or it is available now from the US:yay:
Choze Posted October 18, 2008 Posted October 18, 2008 Going by the beta. Getting into a server was the toughest thing to do. Game itself is nice. if you want a tactical shooter with large emphasis on teamwork then this is a good game. Graphically its ok for what it is. You have multilayered building and largish maps. Any idea on UK release date and price?
MATtheHAT Posted October 18, 2008 Author Posted October 18, 2008 £30 is a fucking bargain. Agreed, considering the Headset alone retails for around £25 in the US.
flameboy Posted October 20, 2008 Posted October 20, 2008 bargain although am unlikely to play the game that much given the close release of resistance 2, but then at £30 you can hardly argue. I have a Jabra headset which most the time is fine but occasionally I have problems getting it to sync properly and my voice is choppy and rubbish on it making the people at the other end not able to hear me. Apparently this headset is quality, I think they should bundle it in with future PS3's to try and get everyone using headsets...
Choze Posted October 20, 2008 Posted October 20, 2008 I'll see. I was in the beta along with other games... The game is nice although i am suffering from abit of shooting fatigue. Its quite a nice team game. Voice chat is very clear in the beta. Map design is good. For 3rd person shooters its great, the mechanics are great. But its not innovative if thats what you are looking for. Its not epic either. Alot of people kept asking me about graphics and i thought they were ok (think sharper COD4).
MATtheHAT Posted October 30, 2008 Author Posted October 30, 2008 Got this a couple of weeks ago, and because I have been working away, I have only had the chance to play it tonight. First impressions: After the mother of all installs/patches, I could finally get past the start screen. Kitted my little fella out in in some desert combats, a balaclava, and an M16A Assault Rifle. (Theres loads more customizing but I just wanted to get some action). So far so good. Found a european server and pressed 'X'. The map was the (In)Famous 'Crossroads' graphics look sharp and and it runs pretty smoothly. Not up to CoD4 standards but still very good. We were playing a game called 'Extraction' - find the hostages and extract them to a predetermined zone. So like a typical CoD4 player I ran straight towards the objective - and promptly got my head popped by a sniper. This is where there is a bit of a Marmite moment, in all but one game mode, you do not respawn until the end of the round. Which in some cases could be up to 10 minutes. In this game, team work is absolutely essential. Any trigger happy running and gunning players will probably not get on with this game. Its tactical, stealthy and very unforgiving. At the moment there is still a problem with the servers, there is a temporary patch in place. But its not the greatest. I have played it for about 3 hours now and although getting into games is fine, I have experienced a few glitches. (The sound went off for one round, and my PS3 has frozen once). Once the servers are sorted, I can see this game getting good community support, and good reviews.
flameboy Posted October 30, 2008 Posted October 30, 2008 How is the headset? Thats the important stuff....I'm still wondering whether to update to this from my jabra headset...
MATtheHAT Posted October 30, 2008 Author Posted October 30, 2008 I did not get the headset bundle. I just use my old Jabra. In hindsight I really should have gone for the bundle. But I only had £20 in my paypal account
Solo Posted October 31, 2008 Posted October 31, 2008 IGN gave it a whopping 4.5, this must be a classic.
Pit-Jr Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 First impressions: After the mother of all installs/patches, I could finally get past the start screen. Kitted my little fella out in in some desert combats, a balaclava, and an M16A Assault Rifle. (Theres loads more customizing but I just wanted to get some action). So far so good. After the aformentioned mammoth install (its up to 1.3 now), ive played the game for a few hours and ive yet to encounter any sort of bugs or glitches so apparently theyve ironed out the most important things. Also my wireless connection hasnt suffered from any lag or disconnects. Anyway, the game, the nework, and the headset all work fluently together and im loving it so far. There are also seems to be alot of people playing at any given time but it could definately use more. A tutorial level like the one in MGO would have been nice too but i picked up the controls pretty easily after 1 or 2 sessions. All in all, the bundle and even the annoying install is definately worth it.

I just wish I had not sold it when the PAL version was meant to come out.
Pit-Jr Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 I like the default controls but theres apparently several other control schemes to choose from based on what type of attacker you are but i havent looked into those yet Anyway, I command everyone on my list to get it when it comes out
Choze Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 Well us beta testers had problems testing so we knew it needed delays. Wonder if it works now? Non guaranteed 15 minute wait to play... Its a shame because the actual game is nice.
Cookyman Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 I'm assuming it's been delayed again so another patch is imminent and they want the disk to have the latest version. I'm really looking forward to this game and for £30 including mic you can't go wrong!
Pit-Jr Posted February 9, 2009 Posted February 9, 2009 WTF..... Is there a reason why my stats arent getting updated everytime i finish playing this? Am i supposed to manually save everytime i finish a game or what? I thought the network was supposed to update and store this info automatically
Cookyman Posted March 11, 2009 Posted March 11, 2009 Wow just checked my emails and Game sent my copy of SOCOM on Tuesday at 1440hrs! now thats early. Also as I suspected and posted earlier the game was updated again prior to the european release of this title. Slant Six released a version 1.41 patch for SOCOM: Confrontation this morning. It's available for download right now and fixes some of the game's slowdown issues. It also adjusts some minor display settings and tweaks a bit of the gameplay. The last patch for Confrontation was the 1.30 update in January, which added Trophies. So, why are we now on 1.41 without a 1.40 update? Slant Six had this to say: "The 1.40 was intended to support the European release, we combined the 1.40 and the 1.41 together to speed the deployment of the above fixes." Check after the break for the full list of patch notes. 1.41 patch notes: XMB presence - Medley Game information has been abbreviated, displaying all information required to identify the location of the player. Late Join 'Hitch' improvements - addresses the pause experienced by players when someone late joins a game. Navigating Screens With Large Clans - Slow down issue fixed. Increased speed of fade at the beginning of the round. Claymores can now be detonated when player is in the prone position. Increased countdown timer in Quick Match Pre Game lobby from 20 to 60 seconds. Enabled Quick Match team switching. Quick Match Ranked, Unranked and Unranked Respawn games, each contains 6 different playlists: 3 8vs8 and 3 16vs16 players.
Chuck Posted March 11, 2009 Posted March 11, 2009 Postie tried to deliver this today but none was in. It is nt from the usual depot so I have to wait till Friday. Fuck Royal Mail.
Cookyman Posted March 12, 2009 Posted March 12, 2009 Yeah yeah I know you lot all got Resi 5 today - I did too, However.......... Did anyone else get SOCOM? Currently charging the rather groovy looking headset right now!
MATtheHAT Posted March 12, 2009 Author Posted March 12, 2009 Yeah yeah I know you lot all got Resi 5 today - I did too, However.......... Did anyone else get SOCOM? Currently charging the rather groovy looking headset right now! I did, but gonna complete RE5 first before I sink my teeth in again. Which looks like it wont be too long, its not the longest Resi I have played... Oh, and how fucking hard are the SOCOM trophies?
dwarf Posted March 12, 2009 Posted March 12, 2009 ^ Yeah apparently they are the worst trophies in existence - they pretty much require you to wait for/watch other players etc.
Choze Posted March 13, 2009 Posted March 13, 2009 Yeah yeah I know you lot all got Resi 5 today - I did too, However.......... Did anyone else get SOCOM? Currently charging the rather groovy looking headset right now! Its a nice headset. Enjoy. Use wire for enabling HQ mode. KZ2 supports it but Socom has better sound quality for talk in general. Seems to be a showcase game for voice talk.
Deathjam Posted March 13, 2009 Posted March 13, 2009 Yeah yeah I know you lot all got Resi 5 today - I did too, However.......... Did anyone else get SOCOM? Currently charging the rather groovy looking headset right now! Ah great, should be able to hear your swearing in perfect clarity now. You need to get back to your training on Killzone 2 though. I need more meatshields.
Chuck Posted March 13, 2009 Posted March 13, 2009 Gonna give this a bash later. Headset looks mint and the cradle is a nice addition. Shame there is no USB port at the back of the console.
