Dog-amoto Posted August 26, 2008 Posted August 26, 2008 Don't know if this'll turn out to be true or not, but I hope so - seeing as there was practically no difference between any of the first three Halo games. A new studio could put a refreshing spin on it all. http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/25/oxm-rumor-gearbox-developing-halo-4-as-launch-title-for-next-xb/ (for the lazy ppl!) Remember back in February when Gearbox Software big boss Randy Pitchford teased his studio's next project as something "big"? Well, not just "big" but something that was "even bigger" than anything Gearbox is currently working on? Well, the kids at OXM sure remembered and they sent their spies deep undercover into Gearbox territory and came back with one heck of a rumor for their October issue: Gearbox is working on Halo 4 as a launch title for the next Xbox (NextBox?). With Bungie admittedly uninterested in creating Halo games ad nauseum, and Gearbox one of the industry's top FPS developers, we've certainly heard crazier rumors. And there are few licenses that would get a studio chieftain to inadvertently slam his own games in development. Whatever the project is, Pitchford has said he'll be directing it himself, adding, "When you find out what this is, you'll likely agree that I can't oversell this one." Nope, you probably couldn't Randy. Overselling Halo is Microsoft's job anyway; you guys just make with the shooting of the aliens ... no, the other aliens.
Dan_Dare Posted August 26, 2008 Posted August 26, 2008 if anyone can make a good fps, it's Gearbox. They have serious chops- particularly if they wanted a game based around the Marines, not Spartans.
Dog-amoto Posted August 26, 2008 Author Posted August 26, 2008 What games have Gearbox made? To be honest, I've never heard of them!
Dan_Dare Posted August 26, 2008 Posted August 26, 2008 They did Half Life: Opposing Force (which fucking ROCKS), Halo C.E on PC, Band of Brothers and they're currently doing Aliens: Colonial Marines. so yeah: chops.
gaggle64 Posted August 26, 2008 Posted August 26, 2008 Also the Wii version of Samba de Amigo. For some reason.
Tellyn Posted August 26, 2008 Posted August 26, 2008 Gearbox made Brothers in Arms, not Band of Brothers. If it was them who made BiA for the DS, then I have the utmost faith in them. With a bit more length and some online multiplayer, you've got the formula for the best DS FPS to date with that. Also the Wii version of Samba de Amigo. For some reason. Hell yes. :awesome:
Dan_Dare Posted August 26, 2008 Posted August 26, 2008 sorry, always getting that mixed up would be more impressive if i was right:heh:
Gizmo Posted August 26, 2008 Posted August 26, 2008 the best DS FPS to date with that. Doesn't take much to be honest. But yeah, I'd say MS will be very keen to get Halo as a launch title again. Think there could definately be some truth behind this rumour.
D_prOdigy Posted August 26, 2008 Posted August 26, 2008 They did Half Life: Opposing Force (which fucking ROCKS), Halo C.E on PC, Band of Brothers and they're currently doing Aliens: Colonial Marines. so yeah: chops. *Infinite: * I've finally met someone in life who appreciates the muther-trucking masterpiece that is Opposing Force Anyway, Gearbox could make it intersting. The awesome strategy elements in BiA makes it probably the best WW2 shooter out there, so hypothetically, they could do what (I felt) Bungie failed to do with Halo 3 and really make the series feel fresh again.
Dan_Dare Posted August 26, 2008 Posted August 26, 2008 Props, homie. that game fucking ruled. I'm actually more excited about Colonial Marines though. May make a thread in a bit.
Dyson Posted August 26, 2008 Posted August 26, 2008 The only game I know Gearbox made was Opposing Force and that game was legendary.
Gizmo Posted August 26, 2008 Posted August 26, 2008 I really should play through all the Half Life games. All I've played are the ones on Orange Box and Counter Strike. I even have all the original HL stuff because I bought a boxset for CS 1.6 (for some reason was cheaper than getting it on its own!). So I have the original HL, Opposing Force and Blue Shift all sitting under a pile of boxes unplayed.
Daft Posted August 26, 2008 Posted August 26, 2008 I hope they can make the story more involving. Although I actually quite like a lot of Halo's story I still want more
LegoMan1031 Posted August 27, 2008 Posted August 27, 2008 Well i have only ever played like half n hour of Halo 2 and didn't like it! (shock) thus i never felt the urge to try Halo 3, dunno what it is, i just didn't like it!
Choze Posted August 27, 2008 Posted August 27, 2008 Halo nowadays is more about the name than the game. COD4 was alot better than Halo 3. Wouldnt matter much if MS farm it out.
Dan_Dare Posted August 27, 2008 Posted August 27, 2008 I liked CoD, but Halo has the much better multiplayer. I'm not sure about singleplayer though because although CoD was really exciuting, Halo's A.I is waaaaay better, expecially on Legendary. It's awesome.
spirited away Posted August 28, 2008 Posted August 28, 2008 Halo nowadays is more about the name than the game. COD4 was alot better than Halo 3. Wouldnt matter much if MS farm it out. Wrong, Cod4's singleplayer was incredible and undoubtedly superior to Halo's; Halo 3's multiplayer though is unrivalled. Both are stunning games in their own ways.
Dan_Dare Posted August 28, 2008 Posted August 28, 2008 Halo has such a strong multiplayer it's crazy. Cod was fun, but pretty limited by comparison. (although perks were genius) I'd like to see Bungie tackle a pure multiplayer game- talkin UT or Quake scale maps, modes, balance but in a halo mould. It would be the fuckest uppest.
Bren Posted August 28, 2008 Posted August 28, 2008 Halo nowadays is more about the name than the game. COD4 was alot better than Halo 3. Bollocks. Halo 3 online is the daddy of xbox live, at the mo im lovin team SWAT, fuckin well good. COD4 was a tad boring, your stuck to the floor with a gun, cant even jump very well, where as on halo you can do some sick jumpin, some sick driving, go in big shooty grav lifts, stick someone wit ze plasmas from the otherside of the map, or hammer a cone straight to the face, call of duty 4 lacked fun, enjoyed the single player though, not enough for veteran play through. COD2 imo was better than 4. And a 4th halo... i hope they can do what Bungie did!
spirited away Posted August 28, 2008 Posted August 28, 2008 Bollocks. Halo 3 online is the daddy of xbox live, at the mo im lovin team SWAT, fuckin well good. You're not wrong there. I'm a 47 in team SWAT
