dwarf Posted September 28, 2008 Author Posted September 28, 2008 Yeah, maybe FPS campaigns are wearing thin now that there have been so many, or maybe this was just missing something. I didn't like the woman narrator (Clarke?) because she sounded annoying. At least they have got rid of her for the second game. Thing is the story was just sort of clumped together, like she was explaining the conversion centres and spires in a matter-of-fact way, as though they'd been around before.
LegoMan1031 Posted September 28, 2008 Posted September 28, 2008 Can someone explain to me more about betas please? Like exactly what they are and when they come out and stuff. I want one, especially for the 3 games mentioned above because I am almost certain on buying them and I need 1to1 reassurance. ^Well I thought the campaign was good but at moments there was just too many of the same enemy, get onto the good stuff more and reduce the length slightly and it would be great. Betas basically are a 'demo' in a way in advance to a game being released. However they are not called a demo coz not everyone can play on them. Different games have diff way of getting on the beta. The 'select few'. Not all games have betas. For example i got an e-mail of sony inviting me to the Motorstorm 2 beta. I got this completly at random and i was just 'lucky'. They sent me a e-mail with a code that i claimed on the playstation shop and it would let me download it. I also noticed GAME are offering the beta for Call of Duty on the 360 (not PS3) if u pre-order the game with them. It depends on the company on how they give out betas, some might do it in a competition for example. Hope that helps!
Aimless Posted September 28, 2008 Posted September 28, 2008 As pretty as it looks, I hope they inject some fun into the single player. To be perfectly honest, the campaign was a chore. And there was me thinking Halo was repetitive. Halo is repetitive, but the actions you're repeating — meleeing an enemy in the back, sticking a grenade to someone, throwing a Warthog around corners, etcetera — are fun. Resistance: FoM's fundamental problem was that the enemies weren't engaging, and whilst there was a vast array of weapons on offer there was little point to any of them, as despite being ostensibly very diverse they all had near enough the same effectiveness in combat. To be honest what I've seen of R2 isn't inspiring much confidence in me, but on the other hand not much has been shown of the campaign. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure it will be a solid enough shooter — 7/10 fodder — but I've yet to play a great Insomniac game. I hope they can prove me wrong, but despite the clear technical talent the studio has I consider them a reliable source of 'good' games, titles worth picking up when you've a £20 note burning a hole in your pocket.
flameboy Posted September 29, 2008 Posted September 29, 2008 Well just finished Resistance Fall of Man. Promised myself I would get it done before the october onslaught so I am ready for the november release of R2. I think it is a good solid game. But for some reason certainly in the mid part of the game there was a lack of suspense and scale. I think the first few levles and the London stage helped bring it up a notch though. One thing about Halo (it seems an obvious title to compare it to for a number of reasons) is that the core mechanic is similar and repeated in the game over and over again. Its basically the same 10-20 seconds of gunplay reiterated over the span of the whole game in different situations and because that balance and gameplay is so good it works. Resistance doesn't seem to have that same balance, it's hard to explain but sometimes it does have fantastic shoot outs, whereas other times it relys on cheap tricks such as monster closets and obscure enemy placements. I do love the story though and can't wait to see where it goes. The sequel looks awesome. Just watched the 1up Show from last week and I love the sound o the perks system like CoD 4 that allows you to acquire points no matter what mode you play and it can actually benefit you if you get them through all 3 modes. means you will still be helping out your multiplayer chances by progressing in the single player and co op.
Cookyman Posted October 2, 2008 Posted October 2, 2008 Apply here! Yeah, you can all thank me later!: peace:

LegoMan1031 Posted October 18, 2008 Posted October 18, 2008 Another cool looking trailer! No idea when i'm going to buy this though, there is just so many games coming out...
flameboy Posted October 21, 2008 Posted October 21, 2008 beta keys are up on IGN/fileplanet, I just got the heads up from cookyman! went to fileplanet, straight in and got a code...
dwarf Posted October 21, 2008 Author Posted October 21, 2008 Can't wait to tuck into this, kind of feel special to have a Beta. See if it can prove that I need it day 1...
flameboy Posted October 21, 2008 Posted October 21, 2008 Will see you there dwarf...just finishing a section on bioshock then jumping on this...
dwarf Posted October 21, 2008 Author Posted October 21, 2008 Mine won't be finished downloading til I wake up tomorrow, flippin beast of a download. Still, feels cool knowing there were only 7000 codes :0 Does anyone know what it is? Multiplayer only or a bit of campaign too? Gonna try beta now. Yeah it must be said, it's awesome.
flameboy Posted October 22, 2008 Posted October 22, 2008 Well played a fair bit of this with cookyman tonight. Thank god my mic actually worked this time! I was beginning to get worried! Especially when the XMB chatroom wouldn't work! Had a few co-op games, first 2 player then an 8 player. The result was always the same we got slaughtered! Then had some deathmatches same happened we didn't to well there are some super human players out there... I love the party system...you can get people together and then just follow each other around through various matches and it works like a dream...I am in love with this game. I need to get playing bioshock so I have completed that before Fallout 3 hits and then have enough time to get into that (don't expect to complete it for a very long time!) before this hits.
dwarf Posted October 22, 2008 Author Posted October 22, 2008 So how can we get matches going between us? Party or something?
Daft Posted October 22, 2008 Posted October 22, 2008 I don't really like the style and the feel. I'll give it more time though.
flameboy Posted October 22, 2008 Posted October 22, 2008 Compared to the first one I love the feel of it. Its just familar enough but with its own tone and feel to make it different. I think the multiplayer is leagues above the original as well...
Cookyman Posted October 22, 2008 Posted October 22, 2008 Phew just played an online co-op game with 7 others and it was amazing - I was special ops so had sniper rifle and we fought our way through an incredible ammount of chimera - must have taken about 30 minutes and finished off with us all blasting away at a tank robot thing! We made it and I got 19,000 experience points which levelled my character up 1 and a half levels which unlocked the bullseye. Absolutely amazing fun - I can't wait for the full retail version! Oh a word of warning get a headest you'll need it to call for a medic! - you really need to work as a team to make it.

Yeah I agree about the team thing that first game we had where we all went in guns blazing was fun but we made hardwork of it. I also think in things like team deathmatch it pays to work together and stick together. I feel a N-E party sticking together and going into games and sticking by each other and showing how its done... Sorry I didn't come back, decided to have a quick bash of Bioshock and then wanted to watch Heroes.
dwarf Posted October 22, 2008 Author Posted October 22, 2008 Oi Cooky how come we couldn't get a game sorted? Strange, I don't have a clue when it comes to the reasoning behind Resistance's online mode.
Cookyman Posted October 22, 2008 Posted October 22, 2008 yeah we had some problems there and then when we finally got together and started they game you disappeared - was a shame too because that was the game I described earlier!
