Matt has never been trustworthy - IGN also said that Nintendo would announce a new DS at E3.

You need to get over your Casamassina hate. You told me stuff that would be at E3 and it never showed up, thus Tellyn is an absolute farce that can't be trusted.

Yeah, I don't really fathom why so many people dislike him. I guess it comes with being a senior figure at what is virtually the biggest video games publication on the internet. So it's probably natural that when he makes innocent predictions (as we all do) more people happen to take what he says seriously.

But he doesn't work for Nintendo - it wasn't his doing that every single game he knows about didn't get announced at E3, just to piss people off.

You mean when they were having discussion in their podcast about speculation for what could or could not be announced at E3? Like, talking like anyone else does about possibilities? They thought either one would be announced or "first rumblings" but that wasn't saying that it would happen, it was just speculation as part of their pre-E3 build up, which they're paid to do. It was also sort of a natural guess since we're in the 4th year of the DS' lifecycle now.

Seems like virtually everyone who has something against IGN never really hears any of the dialogue in context and just goes by someone else's transcript of something said.

Didn't Matt even just outrightly say Kid Icarus would be at E3. Started as a rumour but he kept mentioning it and saying how it would be there. Then boldly went it wouldn't just day before it's 'unvealing' :heh:

Well you should badmouth that someone, then, and not Matt....

Well...

There's this. I just don't like the guy, but I'll keep my opinions to myself in the future. :)

Well people are still pretending it doesn't exist, just simply because Matt is the one who mentions it. I mean there's been very suggestive interviews with Factor 5 though, the "concept art", hints in the E3 interviews on topics like Kid Icarus and well, the fact that it makes perfect sense for them to be doing it now after all the times it was brought up around 2006-2007 and how many times Miyamoto and company had said it sounded like a good idea.

It's also a good follow up to having Pit in Brawl.

Seriously though I do wonder how many of the people that dont like Matt have even listened to any of the podcasts or watched anything with him in it at all. He's just a regular gaming journalist but is famous because he's one of the few on big sites nowadays that's still a huge Nintendo fan and actually dicusses them and their news regularly. They don't go out of their way to spread rumours, they just have fun in their podcast like normal guys and don't answer every question in some totally dead serious way and joke around about things they know they cant talk about.

People always act like everything he says is made up but case is, every damn journalist out there on big sites who's worth a damn usually has exclusive information or deals that by a deal with their publisher/informant, they can't reveal plain and simple. Matt's "downside" is that he does joke about things he can't reveal for 100% but that's mainly because people constantly ask questions on their forums and they try their best to answer them in any way they can. It'd probably be best if they just declined to comment but then their podcasts would be extremely boring.

I've listened to pretty much every one since they started doing them mainly so I don't have to rely on poor transcriptions that completely lose the meaning of what was said.

I wholeheartedly agree that this site has a rediculous anti-IGN and Matt attitude for no good reason most of the time.

However, to be fair to Tellyn and others, Matt often does attempt to make out that he has some inside knowledge and knows best. He actually does have that inside knowledge sometimes, look at The Conduit coverage for example, but I get the feeling he doesn't have as many reliable sources inside Nintendo that he'd like us to think he has.

Me too. This hate has been going on for ages. I don't know why this started nor why it continues.

I also agre, I just don't see why everyone (especially here of all places) have this large amount of hate towards him. Often, he has been right and he does bring out significant news that other sites just wouldn't bother with. If it wasn't for him and his team spreading news about projects like The Conduit, a game like that would be left to obscurity and quickly forgotten about.

I believe he knows what he is talking about with Kid Icarus and I'm sure it is going to show up much more sooner than later. At the very least, he has far more credibility than a large amount of journalists out there to begin with in the gaming industry and that is very telling in general.

Besides, as far as Kid Icarus is concerned, I believe it was more than just IGN spreading stuff about it. 1UP, GameSpot, and oh shit, N-Europe too. Who would've figured?

To pin the blame on one man, just because it didn't show up at a casual event, is just plain stupid.

You also have to consider this IS Nintendo, they're a different beast altogether in the industry in how they handle things.

Erm... sorry, guys?

Don't apologise it's your opinion. Personally I kind of agree with you, theres been a few times he's said things that just never materialise.
