I'm not a huge fan of the speaker in the Remote, while Nintendo tooted on about adding immersion, i tend to have it turned low/off since it usually sounds appalling- far from immersive.

So, whats the problem, exactly? Is it the sound file thats sent to the Remote? Is it the speaker itself- perhaps there is a method to replace the internal speaker with something a little less rubbish?

It's down to the actual quality of the speaker - it's essentially been ripped from a GBA. Of course, Nintendo had the ability to fit in a much more advanced speaker, but the price of the Remote as it is is pretty hefty.

I wouldn't try meddling with it, if I were you, David - you know what Nintendo are like. It's likely they've fitted a small pouch of anthrax ready to be released for anyone who tries to mod it.

Don't forget that the sound file itself is being transmitted through the air as appose to down a cable. Coupled with the very limited memory on the controller (I'm thinking it's 4kb, though I may be wrong), there just wouldn't be anywhere to store a file for anything that sounded remotely pleasing to the ears, however temporarily it may be.

No, your not the only one.

The speakers are a little nice edition for the controler and I can see it being used for future systems.

No More Heroes done it quite well I thought.

I actually enjoyed the speaker in most of the games I played. NMH and RS stand out in particular. I also found it pretty useful in WiiSports because in turned based games it tells you when it's your turn again - sure it's not necessary but a nice addition none the less.

However I agree that the quality is pretty bad but still I usually have it turned on.

Am I the only one who really likes it :D

Nope, it's a great idea and fun, TP is awesome with it for example. Also redge, if you always have it low or off you kinda don't know if it's worth it or not :P

The raquet sound in Wii Sports has yet to be bettered in my opinion. The "THWOK!" is perfect.

I also think that Wii Music will push the wiimote speaker somewhat.

Some workouts in Wii Fit have some good wii-mote speaker functionality too. I think the speaker is an integral part of user friendly-ness.

Maybe one day we will have astounding audio coming from our controllers (and yes it would be awesome) but for now the Wii mote is innovating on its own.

Roll on Wii 2 with HD Graphics (visuals will have reached moreorless saturation point by then) improved motion control and improved technology...

For now, lets just enjoy the Wii for what it is, a breath of fresh air from everything else... when it has the right games that is, I'm still waiting for something on the system to come along that manages to top Zelda, Mario, Metroid and Smash Bros. :heh:

Come on Nintendo, give us at least one (if not more) truly original IP's by the end of the consoles lifespan.

Speaker works really well for Rhythm Boxing on Wii Fit, was just thinking earlier it was a nice edition.

Though to be fair it doesn't always work so well.
