Leeds/Reading Festival

I thought it was the other way round tbh, Rage being awesome, but MEtallica just having a not-a-great set.

Other then that though, Pendulum are insane live (or at least the crowd are) and last night activities are hilarious.

Agreed. Rage were brilliant, as were Pendulum. Though jesus the front of the NME stage was heaving with people. Loads were swarming back over the barrier between the front and back of the tent, drenched with sweat, just to get the hell out of there. Still, immense.

Biffy Clyro was probably my highlight for the festival, though Hadouken! Justice and Does it Offend You, Yeah? were also great.

Campsite was the usual larks and bouts of randomness. Some sonofabitch nicked one of my wellies in the middle of the night, which annoyed me. Ended up nicking some random dudes. Vicious cycle. & God I hated the journey home...

Holy shit, this was actually amazing. Just looking at my Reading Weekend armband brings back so many memories :D

Where to start? First band I saw were Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly. and I thought they were superb. Definitely my favourite newly discovered band due to the festival. Was then actually RIGHT on the barrier for Serj Tankian (and Dizzee Rascal, meh), who was fucking brilliant. Would have been better had a guy not accused me of stealing his hat and trying to pickpocket me but it didn't ruin the enjoyment of Serj for me.

Watched Queens of the Stone Age and was, unfortunately, disappointed. The fact I was looking after someone else probably didn't help though - but the second half of their set was much, much better than the first half IMHO. I then left after 3 Rage Against The Machine songs because I realised I'm not actually a huge Rage fan and I was right at the back anyway.

Saturday, went for the Automatic and stayed for the Subways. Both were epic (British Sea Power were meh), the Subways circles were so much fun, really enjoyed them :D Then returned to campsite to get more drink, and get super hyped up for Bloc Party...who ended up being very, very disappointing. I was gutted at how Flux turned out live, there was little to no atmosphere and the guys at Bloc Party know that, apparantly they mentioned it was a crap gig in an interview. Saw 2 Killers songs who were awesome but had to leave for the almighty Manic Street Preachers. Lazed at the back until If You Tolerate This and then got right up and shouted like fuck. Then I witnessed the best song of the fest - A Design For Life by the Manics. One of my all time favourite songs, and the crowd fucking loved it, words can't describe the atmosphere and the feeling I got.

Sunday comes around and disappointment strikes early, A7X dropped out. Nevermind. I saw Crystal Castles () after Hadouken!, who blew me away. I was 3 rows back before the music started and ended up having to fight my way to the back for a breather. Love their music though, so it was still awesome. Also saw 2 Feeder songs and 2 Pendulum songs before moving on. Tenacious D were an absolutely epic amazing surprise, can't believe how hilarious they were and how much fun it is singing Fuck Her Gently with such a huge crowd. I actually need a recording of the Train improv song they did, I cracked up at that one. Anyone have a recording? :D

Metallica came on and once again I'm not a big Metallica fan but they blew me away too. Absolutely loved their set, though I do feel it was about 30 minutes too long. Could have cut out a fair few of their songs. Nothing Else Matters, One, Enter Sandman and So What were brilliant. The riots in the evening were obviously all up in Green, communal fire was huge, until knobs decided to put gas canisters on it. That's when I realised it was time to leave.

Twozzok: My phone not only died but stopped working. Was gutted, but we might have bumped in to each other anyway. You should have come and said hey to me in Red camp :D

Metallica held the title as the best band iv ever seen for 1 day. This was because Rage played the day after. O man both bands were so fucking immense. Other bands i saw were Feeder who were brilliant, Biffy, Goldfinger, Frank Turner, Alexisonfire and Serj.

Bad points: Taking Back Sunday's noise level was rediculous. No one could hear what Adam was saying.

Cunts thinking its funny to go around setting fire to tents, gas cannisters and being general idiots. Just because its a festival doesnt mean its acceptable. All thats going to happen is fire's will be banned or gas cannisters will.

The mud at Leeds (dont know about Reading) was annoying but thanks to the mega sunny days it eased up a bit and i was able to go to the arena without wellies on once (Y).

Overall brilliant festival once again. Bring on next year :P

Edit: Also, lol at the Pot Noodle adverts, always made me chuckle. And did the "Don't throw gas or aerosol" adverts actually make sense to anyone? Hey, here's a bunch of people in a car. Oh they're screaming!....Don't throw gas kids...!

We loved those adverts, especially the mentos one. OMG HE PUT MENTOS IN COKE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! "Fucking funny isn't it."

Why would putting coke in mentos be a good way of describing the horrors a gas canister could cause.

Did anyone see the hench smoke from a fire that happened during Saturday? I was stood watching that instead of the bands, apparently it was in the white camp but it looked more like yellow to me.

I saw that! Was pretty shocked - definitely looked like Yellow to me. White is miles away, gotta go through brown and indigo to get there..

Did you hear about the car fire last night in White? Apparently a BBQ exploded and set loads of cars on fire..gutted.

Also, "Fucking funny, isn't it" has become an inside joke in my friends group now :D

I was in yellow, and it was definately coming from white/brown.

Also, I was parked in white car park and I was shitting myself this morning about the car fire thing people were talking about. Didn't see any wreckage when I got there though, must have been cleared up.

The biggest lolz on the last night was when our angry mob of about 300 people chased down 3 ice cream vans. Then a huge crowd destroyed and burned down the toilets in the yellow camp. The security were incompetent, they were all too concerned with people banging on the bins that it took them about half and hour to realise what was being done at the toilets.

You're joking, surely? You helped spoil people's weekends, people's livelyhoods and put the future of the festival in danger. You actually think thats something to be prowd of?

I just realised what was the best thing about the whole festival..the yorkshire pudding stall *drools*

Last year we tried it and this year me and my friend were saying that we'll save it till the Sunday and eagerly anticipated having it for the whole weekend. Was so good!

There was also a rumour going around in the festival that Rolf Harris had died, one of my friends was deeply bothered by this and we don't know why. What an idiot.

Good man! I hope they rocked. Still waiting for news on a new album, they said they'd be writing it this year :(

Hey, I didn't participate, I just watched it happen. No-one was hurt or anything, the ice cream vans cleared off and it's not like anybody was using those cesspools. I just think in the drunken party atmosphere of it all, it was a rather funny to see.

Now the two things I don't think are funny in the slightest are throwing aerosol cans into the fires and trashing people's tents. The former is especially stupid and irresponsible.

I misunderstood then, i took the words "our angry mob" to mean that you were part of said "angry" "mob".

No way! I must have seen you at some point then - it was where my friends group would meet up at before the headliners or a band we all wanted to see - basically, it was out meeting point. How awesome is that?! :D

Best story ever*: I got my friend laid by bringing up this rumor. True story! :D

*Story may have been better if I was the one that ended up getting action.

Oh I didn't mean we met there, I just meant me and my friend kept looking at the stall waiting for Sunday to arrive when we could buy and devour a yorkshire pudding dinner!

Me and my friends generally met around the ice cream van near the NME tent (as thats where we went most) and the posters in the middle. I probably saw you at a point but I wouldn't have recognised you =] On the last day I spent it with my hood up because my hair (to me anyway) looked ikky and mehish.

I was in fear on riot night of a few people, and it turned out my fears weren't just bollocks since they jumped my tent near the end. Other than that I really think this riot night was nothing to be worried about, last year people that was when you generally had to fear for your life! The angry mob weren't really angry, they just contained what seemed to be a few drunken people that thought they were invincible. The security people didn't give a shit and let people do what they want.

Aye. I was going to look out for Twozzok but I couldn't remember what he looked like. Next year I'm feeling a band N-E meetup somewhere :D

The riots were great fun to be in or around until the aerosols started getting chucked. Someone lost their eyesight in one eye last year apparantly, not fr me, thanks.

Damnit!! We'd been saying we'd get ourselves some after we kept seeing people walking around with them. Only after reading that did I remember that we never got one. Tsk, next year perhaps. Were they as good as they looked??

Haha, what was everyone else's meeting points? We always met at 'Hamburger Heaven' cause we thought it had a cool name. I haven't eaten so many burgers in a weekend before...

Then I was well chuffed cause on the sunday night I got a half price burger and a sprite for a quid cause the guy there said I was hot. I mean, I know he was only doing it to shift the last of their stock but I still felt pretty awesome :P Then I tried to barter for a tshirt and failed miserably. Oh and why the hell didn't they get more stock of Rage Tshirts!? Sold out by the saturday...

Our Sunday night was cool, didn't say any mobs, just some cool people with a limbo thing made of gaffa tape, some light sabre duellists, and these random couple who thought we spoke to for about an hour then couldn't believe it when we said 'nothing' to 'so what are you on then?'. Ahh i loved that couple.

Reminds me of the drunk/high guy we managed to adopt on the Saturday night. Offered to bring over some liquid acid the next day, and also brought us this HUGE log for our fire that he left overnight. He left by pissing on the fire as a thankyou. The log was still burning embers when we woke up 4 hours later :D

Edit: I forgot to mention, Lightspeed Champion were absolutely fantastic, a band I'd only heard the name of before. I can't stop listening to Galaxy of the Lost since I saw/heard them for the first time at Reading :D

Woo! Yeah he / they were really great. Galaxy of the Lost is such a nice song, and I loled when they mixed in the starwars theme to midnight surprise near the end.

I didn't see enough bands I hadn't heard before mind :/ Aside from flogging molly, who were great fun. Oh and did anyone see Yeasayer? Real good, though they came on late and only got to play like 4 songs...
