Particle_Man Posted November 1, 2005 Posted November 1, 2005 Here's my first attempt at product photography. Comments and suggestions on how to improve it are welcome (no, you don't need "1337" photography skills to say what looks good and not in the pic).
Pit-Jr Posted November 1, 2005 Posted November 1, 2005 Nice shoot except i can barely read the product name, but that could be due to my monitor's lack of brightness. Still makes me want to hug a toaster though
Gaijin von Snikbah Posted November 1, 2005 Posted November 1, 2005 I think you need to make more light shine at the label. Otherwise a good picture.
Particle_Man Posted November 1, 2005 Author Posted November 1, 2005 I think this comes down to monitor calibration. I haven't done a proper print to see if it's alright or not
Guest Ray Falling Posted November 1, 2005 Posted November 1, 2005 I would indeed suggest another small light source on the right or a white surface that reflects the light coming from the left. n_n My monitor is set to maximum brightness and I cant see the label too well either, but then originally the picture would be larger I suppose. Was this just for fun or are you a serious photographer? Also, do you have more work somewere on the net?
Particle_Man Posted November 1, 2005 Author Posted November 1, 2005 I'm just a happy amateur I had an extra light source and a reflector, but sadly they're not as good as a proper flash on the other side...I built a softbox today to eliminate the spread of light (have been a big problem). I've not nailed the lighting yet, since I have no metering as of yet (doing it all by eye and experimentation). I've got a zoto.com account which I've been adding some old photos, and adding new along the way (seems to be down for updates atm). http://particleman.zoto.com/galleries
Guest Ray Falling Posted November 1, 2005 Posted November 1, 2005 cool n_n. I'll have to check it out when it works again then 0_0 EDIT: HAHA damn, the picture looks perfect now that I'm not blinded by the sunlight n_n.
Bluejay Posted November 1, 2005 Posted November 1, 2005 The label seems bright enough of this side of the fence. What I like about the photo is the fact that the bottle looks tall and proud. Maybe it would stand out more if the background was another colour? I dunno? Nice work as usual Mr. Particle.
Particle_Man Posted November 1, 2005 Author Posted November 1, 2005 Here's one for the little nintendo fanboy in me
Raining_again Posted November 1, 2005 Posted November 1, 2005 i love the way the light creeps roung the front of the bottle and how you can see the lil bumps on the side. i can see the label great from here nice ds pic too its all about the light and shadows. awesome again
Guest Offerman Posted November 1, 2005 Posted November 1, 2005 Personally Peem I think the light on the Axe bottle is spot on. I can see it pretty well and my monitor is reknown for poor contrast, low brightness and over saturation. Its important to know on shots like this its important not to make the label overly bright or else the person takes a quick glance and thats it. If its slightly darker the person physcologically(sp?) studies it longer and harder, and thusly takes alot more of it in and it sticks alot better.
Jon Posted November 1, 2005 Posted November 1, 2005 If you cant see that logo, you must be fucking blind.
Particle_Man Posted November 1, 2005 Author Posted November 1, 2005 Depends on the message you want out with it. Naturally I could make the label stand out like a street prostitute in a bible class, but naturally this doesn't always mean it's the best way round well, after that rant from me...here's something other than product shots (spammy sod I am).
Grebe Posted November 1, 2005 Posted November 1, 2005 The buttons o nthe DS dont seem to be in focus? Otherwise thumbs up
Particle_Man Posted November 1, 2005 Author Posted November 1, 2005 The buttons o nthe DS dont seem to be in focus? Otherwise thumbs up They are, just didn't want to kill eventual 56k people with a big download
Ice9 Posted November 2, 2005 Posted November 2, 2005 Axe I think the label could do with another light, nothing too sharp, possibly from a reflector, just to light up the label a little more (its readable, but for a product shot it could be better) DS The button surfaces are too shadowy i think, could do with another light source, and i personally think you should edit out the reflection of the hinges in the lower screen. Might look a bit wrong though, but you could give it a shot and see. Water Drop I love you.
Particle_Man Posted November 2, 2005 Author Posted November 2, 2005 What I'd really want is a proper light setup for product photography At the moment, all I have one flash, and one basic reflector. For proper product photography, I'd love having a table/light tent for it, but a guy got to start somewhere. Thanks for the comments.
Particle_Man Posted November 3, 2005 Author Posted November 3, 2005 sorry about double post, but I thought it's smarter not to do another thread... Here are the latest watery shots.
Haver Posted November 3, 2005 Posted November 3, 2005 I'm thirsty. [One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten, eleven, twelve, thirteen, fourteen, fifteen - STILL WON'T LET ME POST] Outside the brackets?
Particle_Man Posted November 4, 2005 Author Posted November 4, 2005 I've no clue on what you're trying to say haver...have some more water "The last raindrop"
Charlie Posted November 5, 2005 Posted November 5, 2005 I love those water pics. Did you have 2 different light sources in the bottom pic? The shadows are going in different directions
Particle_Man Posted November 5, 2005 Author Posted November 5, 2005 I love those water pics. Did you have 2 different light sources in the bottom pic? The shadows are going in different directions Indeed I have, good observation. Reason for using multiple light sources is to increase light passing through the water. Here are two more...and that's it from me for a while.
