Here's my first attempt at product photography.

Comments and suggestions on how to improve it are welcome (no, you don't need "1337" photography skills to say what looks good and not in the pic). :)

I would indeed suggest another small light source on the right or a white surface that reflects the light coming from the left. n_n

My monitor is set to maximum brightness and I cant see the label too well either, but then originally the picture would be larger I suppose.

Was this just for fun or are you a serious photographer? Also, do you have more work somewere on the net?

I'm just a happy amateur :)

I had an extra light source and a reflector, but sadly they're not as good as a proper flash on the other side...I built a softbox today to eliminate the spread of light (have been a big problem). I've not nailed the lighting yet, since I have no metering as of yet (doing it all by eye and experimentation).

I've got a zoto.com account which I've been adding some old photos, and adding new along the way (seems to be down for updates atm).

cool n_n. I'll have to check it out when it works again then 0_0

EDIT: HAHA damn, the picture looks perfect now that I'm not blinded by the sunlight n_n.

The label seems bright enough of this side of the fence. What I like about the photo is the fact that the bottle looks tall and proud. Maybe it would stand out more if the background was another colour? I dunno? Nice work as usual Mr. Particle.

i love the way the light creeps roung the front of the bottle and how you can see the lil bumps on the side. i can see the label great from here :) nice ds pic too its all about the light and shadows. :) awesome again :heh:

Personally Peem I think the light on the Axe bottle is spot on. I can see it pretty well and my monitor is reknown for poor contrast, low brightness and over saturation. Its important to know on shots like this its important not to make the label overly bright or else the person takes a quick glance and thats it.

If its slightly darker the person physcologically(sp?) studies it longer and harder, and thusly takes alot more of it in and it sticks alot better.

Depends on the message you want out with it. Naturally I could make the label stand out like a street prostitute in a bible class, but naturally this doesn't always mean it's the best way round :)

well, after that rant from me...here's something other than product shots (spammy sod I am).

Axe

I think the label could do with another light, nothing too sharp, possibly from a reflector, just to light up the label a little more (its readable, but for a product shot it could be better)

DS

The button surfaces are too shadowy i think, could do with another light source, and i personally think you should edit out the reflection of the hinges in the lower screen. Might look a bit wrong though, but you could give it a shot and see.

Water Drop

I love you.

What I'd really want is a proper light setup for product photography :)

At the moment, all I have one flash, and one basic reflector. For proper product photography, I'd love having a table/light tent for it, but a guy got to start somewhere. :)

Thanks for the comments.

I love those water pics. Did you have 2 different light sources in the bottom pic? The shadows are going in different directions

Indeed I have, good observation. Reason for using multiple light sources is to increase light passing through the water. :)

Here are two more...and that's it from me for a while.
