Nintenchris Posted August 10, 2007 Posted August 10, 2007 I havent had my new PC for long and everything was running fine... untill i decided to buy a game.. Age Of Empires 3 Im running Vista Home Premium and my graphics card is a ATI Radeon X1650 PRO So.. the problem... after playing for a little while.. some times minutes, some times longer the screen freezes or goes blank. seconds after it will come back and give me this error "driver atikmdag stopped responding but has recovered" or somthing similar. This will happen every couple of secons after it happens the first time. Ive looked in the problem reports and it says Description A problem with your video hardware caused Windows to stop working correctly. Problem signature Problem Event Name: LiveKernelEvent OS Version: 6.0.6000.2.0.0.768.3 Locale ID: 2057 Files that help describe the problem WD-20070716-1503.dmp sysdata.xml Version.txt Extra information about the problem BCCode: 117 BCP1: 8406D480 BCP2: 8B140A82 BCP3: 00000000 BCP4: 00000000 OS Version: 6_0_6000 Service Pack: 0_0 Product: 768_1 I have the latest drivers for the graphics card and the latest vista updates... but nothing seems to help.. plus ive searched the net and found people with the same problem but no solution. I just hope one of you lot can help me before i reach for a sledge hammer.
Caris Posted August 10, 2007 Posted August 10, 2007 uninstall the drivers and reinstall them. If not your graphics card might be bust.
Nintenchris Posted August 10, 2007 Author Posted August 10, 2007 I have tryed that Caris and it didnt help Oh and Sanchez you should eat your words because if you look arround the net people are having the same problem with nVidia cards on Vista
Caris Posted August 10, 2007 Posted August 10, 2007 Then google and find it if it's just a vista issue, if not ring the place where you ordered it from and complain.
Jackster Posted August 10, 2007 Posted August 10, 2007 God help me before i smash my PC If you film that and put it on youtube I would maybe give you 4 stars (Next time buy nVidia) Ditto
Slaggis Posted August 10, 2007 Posted August 10, 2007 Have you downloaded the newly release dpack from microsoft that helps with video cards on vista? There's a link for it on the vista thread (last page)
Ant-Shimmin Posted August 11, 2007 Posted August 11, 2007 I've had no trouble with Nvidia... Anyway in response to your problem as Haggis said download the new update they are bringing out.
Nintenchris Posted August 11, 2007 Author Posted August 11, 2007 Well after reading what others have said about this on various sites it seems that its quite a problem for alot of people.. and that is a driver issue not hardware. i found this on ATI's site.... 737-27116: Radeon™ Series - ATIKMDAG has stopped responding error messages The information in this article applies to the following configuration(s): Catalyst Display Driver 7.3 Radeon™ X1950 series Radeon™ X1900 series Radeon™ X1800 series Radeon™ X1650 series Radeon™ X1600 series Radeon™ X1550 series Radeon™ X1300 series Radeon™ X1050 series Radeon™ X850 series Radeon™ X800 series Radeon™ X700 series Radeon™ X600 series Radeon™ X550 series Radeon™ X300 series Radeon™ 9800 series Radeon™ 9700 series Radeon™ 9650 series Radeon™ 9600 series Radeon™ 9550 series Radeon™ 9500 series Windows Vista 32-bit Edition Windows Vista 64-bit Edition Symptoms: When running games or full screen video, some users may be shown a message stating ATIKMDAG has stopped responding but was successfully recovered. In some cases, the system will continue to work as normal. Alternately, this error message may not result in the system being recovered and the system may need to be reset. Solution: Currently there is no solution. ATI Engineering has been advised of this issue and is investigating. Any updates will be published when they become available. So they know about it but they have no fix Oh and some Nvidia's have the same problem but get this error "nvlddmkm stopped responding but has recovered"
