Paj! Posted May 14, 2011 Posted May 14, 2011 Marvel as a universe > DC. That's basically undisputable. It's much better developed and more like...it knows where it's going. It feels like a living thing, and since EVERYTHING interacts with each others, your too aware. / that made no sense, but I know what I mean. DC is too much about reboots, reloads, re-this, Earth-2 that blah blah. The only time it was done stunningly was by Grant Morrison. of course I'd say that though I enjoy DC of course, but it's just weaker overall in comparison. It feels like everything you read will be undermined soon enough.
Daft Posted May 15, 2011 Posted May 15, 2011 (edited) Yeah, I totally understand that. It just doesn't really bother me for some reason. I think it's partly to do with not being a big comic book person Batman, for example, to me is a culmination of the comics I've read. Not what is the actual status quo in the current universe. I'm also a big fan of 'What if's'. Anyone read the first Star Wars Infinities comic? It's an alternate universe where Luke fails to blow up the Death Star. I orgasmed. Yoda killing the Emperor by smashing the Death Star into Coruscant (At the same time killing b/millions of people). Jizz. SO amazing. Also, I love how the universe is centred around Batman and Superman (and Wonder Woman). Also, Gotham City. Trump card. An unsung and awesome character. Plus, I'm invested in DC now. Batman is just too cool. Speaking of which, finished Dark Victory last week. Dick Grayson is so cool in it. The two page spread where his family are killed and Bruce is in the background is freaking beautiful. Just need to finish off The Dark Knight Returns and then pick up Haunted Knight and A Death in the Family. Can't wait. Edited May 15, 2011 by Daft
Happenstance Posted May 15, 2011 Posted May 15, 2011 Ok then guys, new question for you. Favourite Comic Stories? Doesnt matter what company its from, just what are some of your favourite comic stories that have been told? Mine: Amazing Spider-Man #248 - The Kid Who Collects Spider-Man Marvels Identity Crisis Superman: Secret Origin Spider-Man: Blue Amazing Spider-Man: The Death of Gwen Stacy There are a lot of other stories I obviously love but those ones are definitely some of my favourites.
Paj! Posted May 15, 2011 Posted May 15, 2011 Ok then guys, new question for you. Favourite Comic Stories? Doesnt matter what company its from, just what are some of your favourite comic stories that have been told? Animal Man issue 5 ...y'know. Everything I think of just comes up as entire Grant Morrison runs, since I see his full runs as single stories (because they are really). Flex Mentallo completely counts a single story, it's a 4-issue mini. Yet to be topped by anything ever. But then also shouldn't really be compared to the majority of 'superhero' comics anyway. Outwith Morrison storylines that spring to mind are...Whedon's Astonishing X-Men...hm. I remember liking how good JMS's Spider-Man was, but then that was in contrast to the horror of Howard Mackie/John Byrne *vomits* before him.

ReZourceman Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 I will do a post about my favourite stories soon. --------- Regarding next weeks releases; - All THREE GLs in one week? Jesus Christ. Now that is a fucking treat. - Not a surprise, but STILL no Guarding the Globe. Sort it fucking out. :/ - Wasn't expecting it being there because I know that (two weeks ago I think) it still wasn't done, but its a shame that Invincible's schedule is struggling so much, despite there not being epic space battles to draw now. I think is persual (sp) of "Every issue should be better/more detailed than the last" is pushing him into dangerously slow territory
Happenstance Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 Glad to hear your favourite stories are coming, I was getting worried it'd just be Paj answering the question! Yeah I was suprised about all 3 GLs in one week, how many more issues does this story have left anyway?
ReZourceman Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 I wondered the same. I'm pretty sure its just one, as I seem to remember on the checklist it was 3 months worth, and then an issue of just Green Lantern in the fourth month (which would make it ten parts too, nice and concise).
gmac Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 yeah it's a 10 part story (just enough so they can put out 2 trades ) ------ now with regards to favourite stories Batwoman: Elegy - Detective Comics #854 - 860 by Greg Ruck and JH Williams III Astonishing X-Men #1-24 and Giant Size by Joss Whedon and John Cassaday Walt Simonson's Thor run Thor #337 - 382 epic story after epic story Planetary #1 - 27 awesome book by Warren Ellis and John Cassaday, glad I didn't get it in single issue format though, 11 years from issue 1 to issue 27
Dante Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 DC Comics has released solicitation for August. My favorite covers:
gmac Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 I can highly recommend Secret Six by Gail Simone -------- Cory Walker is doing another couple of issues of Invincible, hopefully this means Ottley can catch up and get back on a regular schedule
ReZourceman Posted May 17, 2011 Posted May 17, 2011 Cory Walker is doing another couple of issues of Invincible, hopefully this means Ottley can catch up and get back on a regular schedule Doubt it. Don't even get why its being solicited. 85 in August. We're 6 issues behind. :/ Rest of the solicits, there is some awesome stuff. Awesome Super Dinosaur cover. http://imagecomics.com/messageboard/viewtopic.php?p=902842#902842
chairdriver Posted May 17, 2011 Posted May 17, 2011 [i kinda hate "realistic" art, which looks goodbad.]
Happenstance Posted May 17, 2011 Posted May 17, 2011 DC Looking To Relaunch Everything In September? DC recently stated that Flashpoint #5 would be the only comic they would be shipping on August 31st from the entire company. So what’s to follow it on September the 6th? Ten years after the world changed, looks like the DC world will be changing too. Bleeding Cool has already talked about a major renumbering of DC’s books post-Flashpoint. And it looks like that will occur the first week of September, across the DCU board, with everything going back to #1. And the DC solicitations for August do seem to back that up. There’s a lot of finality going around… Brightest Day Aftermath: The Search For Swamp Thing (3 of 3) The search ends here as John Constantine finally finds out Swamp Thing’s dark motives Action Comics #904 Now it all comes down to a weakened Superman versus the monster known as Doomslayer in this, the epic finale of “Reign of the Doomsdays”! Detective Comics #881 This is it – the finale so twisted, so shocking we can’t even begin to give away details here! Be there for the extra-sized conclusion of the acclaimed run by Scott Snyder, Jock and Francesco Francavilla. Batman Gates Of Gotham #5 (pushing through two issues in August) And in issue #5, it’s Batman vs. The Architect! The downfall of a major Gotham family! The betrayal of Damian Wayne! It’s all here in this final issue, plus the untold fate of Gotham City’s first Super Villain! Superman #714 Superman hits Seattle for his last stop on his “Grounded” walk across the country, and it is in that city where everything will come to a head! Superman/Batman #87 It’s the brutal final chapter of “The Secret”! Add that the Green Lantern books are in “epilogue” mode, the Wonder Woman finale has been pushed to August, Gotham City Sirens #28 A secret that goes back to the very first issue of GOTHAM CITY SIRENS will be revealed at last! Birds Of Prey #15 In the concluding chapter of “War and Remembrance,” Lady Blackhawk and the original Phantom Lady are in the clutches of an enemy whose evil has lain dormant for decades! Superboy #11 (pushing through two issues in August) Then in #11 Jeff Lemire and Pier Gallo bring the saga of “The Hollow Men” to its explosive conclusion! Supergirl #67 But before she can leave, first she has to save the kids of the Silk Pajama Society, stop the bad guy from unleashing his devastating plan upon the world, and attend one last orientation session! Wonder Woman #614 The all-new Wonder Woman reaches the end of her epic “Odyssey” and comes face-to-face with the malevolent force behind it all! Adventure Comics #529 The final, fatal battle for the Legion Academy freshman class. Is this the end of the Academy at Cosmic King’s hand? Legion Of Superheroes #16 The finale to the battle with the Legion of Super-Villains! T.H.U.N.D.E.R. Agents #10 The T.H.U.N.D.E.R. Agents make a final stand against The Iron Maiden in the present, as a bitter truth about the villainess and Colleen is revealed in a look back at the past. One of the most critically acclaimed books of the year reaches the shocking finale of its latest chapter With Green Lantern books on epilogue, Teen Titans getting two issues out to hit and #100 in August and even more “things will never be the same again” solicitations than usual as well, everything is lining up for a big big change in September. So why is everything going back to #1? And what does the end of Flashpoint mean for the rest of the titles? http://www.bleedingcool.com/2011/05/17/dc-looking-to-relaunch-everything-in-september/?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+BleedingCool+%28Bleeding+Cool+Comic+News+%26+Rumors%29 If that does indeed happen then i'll be very interested to see what happens with all the books and characters.
Daft Posted May 17, 2011 Posted May 17, 2011 So...wait...DC are doing a massive reset? Someone explain this to the layman. Also Gates of Gotham #5?! I haven't even received the first issue.
ReZourceman Posted May 17, 2011 Posted May 17, 2011 So...wait...DC are doing a massive reset? Someone explain this to the layman. Also Gates of Gotham #5?! I haven't even received the first issue. With DC its a decadely thing. :p Well, we don't know exactly what this means but it elludes to the fact that the finale of Flashpoint will have very major repurcussions throughout the DC universe. I'm willing to wager Abin Sur's return will be one of them.
Daft Posted May 17, 2011 Posted May 17, 2011 Sweet. I love #1s. GIVE ME BATMAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAN. Wait, is this EVERYTHING? So like Batman Beyond, too?
Happenstance Posted May 17, 2011 Posted May 17, 2011 Well we don't know yet, we don't know how Flashpoint will end. All the books resetting to #1 doesn't have to mean a reboot but all them doing it at once does seem to signal some big changes.
Daft Posted May 17, 2011 Posted May 17, 2011 SPEAK EEEEENGLIIISH!!!! Well we don't know yet, we don't know how Flashpoint will end. All the books resetting to #1 doesn't have to mean a reboot but all them doing it at once does seem to signal some big changes. What do you mean 'all' the books?
Happenstance Posted May 17, 2011 Posted May 17, 2011 SPEAK EEEEENGLIIISH!!!! What do you mean 'all' the books? I can only tell you what that article I posted has already said, thats all the news we know on this.
