ReZourceman Posted August 28, 2010 Posted August 28, 2010 Oh. Invincible was win. Guarding the Globe was win. Chew was win. New Avengers was decent. (Is the character reveal at the end a known character? I assume so but I'm not familiar with them) Secret Avengers was great, by far the best issue in terms of art IMO, it was back to Dark Avengers standard, dunno if the inker was different maybe? Avengers was great, much much better artwork than the last few issues. Dynamo 5 Sins of the Father was sweet.
Happenstance Posted August 28, 2010 Posted August 28, 2010 Oh. New Avengers was decent. (Is the character reveal at the end a known character? I assume so but I'm not familiar with them) Isnt it the guy that trained Dr Strange in his powers to begin with? The one from his origin where he's trying to get his hands fixed. Thats what I assumed anyway.
ReZourceman Posted August 28, 2010 Posted August 28, 2010 Isnt it the guy that trained Dr Strange in his powers to begin with? The one from his origin where he's trying to get his hands fixed. Thats what I assumed anyway. I'm not familiar with his origin, but yeah. Also....Immonen is getting...a bit considerably better. As in Ottley levels of improvement. ReZourcemans official artist to watch.
Happenstance Posted August 28, 2010 Posted August 28, 2010 I always thought Immonen was always one people were watching. Ive read a lot of praise for all his work on New Avengers before the relaunch as well and even though he wasnt up to Bagleys standards on USM he was still pretty popular.
Paj! Posted August 28, 2010 Posted August 28, 2010 My review of the week Invincible was good. As usual. Guarding the Globe was promising. X-Men Legacy was fine. Not sure how keen I am on this direction, aka "Rogue takes the kids on various field trips whilst dealing with x kids issue of the week". Feels like a cartoon episode or something. And Clay Mann's art is too bland. I like how Luz's debut has had such a good fan reception over on CBR. :p Astonishing X-Men was a bit "...". The art was STUNNING of course, and I hate how the flagship titles can't get as good artists as the miniseries or "specialist" comics like Astonishing. Anyway. Big anticlimax and oddly scripted at the end. Curse Of The Mutants - Storm and Gambit, as I mentioned, was the best thing I read this week, and one of the best X-Men stories to come out in AGES. (seems the fan community thinks so too) Chuck Kim and Chris Bachalo for heads of X-men writing duties! Namor: The First Mutant was fine. I like the art, and I like Namor more now he's an X-Man. Batman was good. Nice seeing more indepth stuff from what went on between RIP and Final Crisis. Justice League was fine, if not exactly pushing boundaries of comic storytelling. I feel like the new team hasn't been solidified yet. I need to see them sitting at the round table, having chats, to truly believe in them all. Wonder Woman was entertaining, and set shiz in motion. Avengers was "eh." It's fine, but It's too all over the place. I liked the Killraven cameo, just the randomness. I still hate hate hate the team. I much prefer New Avengers, and Stuart Immonen>>JR JR at the moment/in general/always.
Dante Posted August 28, 2010 Posted August 28, 2010 Dunno if Daft actually reads this thread anymore but if he does he'll be interested in this. Batman Beyond has been picked up for an ongoing series now. When I heard about the news as "Batman Beyond on-going series planned" thought it was going to be the new animated series.
Happenstance Posted August 29, 2010 Posted August 29, 2010 Wanted to try and get the trades for the Justice Alex Ross series he did, having trouble finding the first volume at the moment. Im hoping my local comic shop will have it. Has anyone here actually read it before? Im also probably gonna start getting the Justice League trades after the Infinite Crisis relaunch. I did originally start getting the single issues but I dont think I was that impressed as I dropped it so im gonna give it another try.
ReZourceman Posted August 29, 2010 Posted August 29, 2010 Avengers Academy was fucking amazing. The bit with Valkyrie was absolutely HILARIOUS and the ending was so rad.
Dan_Dare Posted August 29, 2010 Posted August 29, 2010 Aye. AA is quickly shaping up to be one of the best of the Heroic Age relaunches. It's much sharper in focus than The Initiative was later on and the characters are, so far, much better. self styled 'teen' books can often be full of bullshit and contrivances (Hello New X-Men not the Morrison one obv.) but AA is much more interesting and is currently fleshing out the academy students enough so that their age isn't really the focus so far. Very much enjoying.
Paj! Posted August 29, 2010 Posted August 29, 2010 Oh yeah I love that! So funny. And when Tigra says "If you like it, you shoulda put a ring on it." to Hank Pym about Jocasta. Love love love.
Munch Posted August 30, 2010 Posted August 30, 2010 http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/comics/news/a269492/daredevil-reborn-series-announced.html Somebody else INSIDE Daredevil's suit, I don't know why but I didn't even think that way when thinking about the new man without fear.
Daft Posted August 30, 2010 Posted August 30, 2010 Dunno if Daft actually reads this thread anymore but if he does he'll be interested in this. Batman Beyond has been picked up for an ongoing series now. I've been on holiday. Dan told me about this on MSN yesterday and I bounced off the walls. So fucking awesome. Anyone know when Issue 3 is out this month?
Happenstance Posted August 30, 2010 Posted August 30, 2010 Bloody local comic shop wasnt open today, I was hoping to find Justice Vol.1, gonna have to wait until next week now. Also I hate having to wait for trades to turn up, ive got 5 on the way and I wanna read something now!

Paj! Posted August 30, 2010 Posted August 30, 2010 http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/comics/news/a269492/daredevil-reborn-series-announced.html Somebody else INSIDE Daredevil's suit, I don't know why but I didn't even think that way when thinking about the new man without fear. Yeah, I kinda assumed they wouldn't take up the Daredevil role. And seems like it's gonna be Gambit. Kraven being it would have been a bit random, and Falcon seems to be out of the window (seeing as that pic is caucasian). And Nova would be ridiculous. :p
Happenstance Posted August 30, 2010 Posted August 30, 2010 I think Kraven would make the most sense to me but id be most interested in Gambit. The character really needs something big and this could be it. Plus Daredevil with some extra powers could be interesting.
ReZourceman Posted August 30, 2010 Posted August 30, 2010 6th October, bi monthly. It says its serialised in smaller installments in Clint, so there might be a preview in there I assume. or rather first small installment.
Paj! Posted August 31, 2010 Posted August 31, 2010 Just ordered this for myself: Yayayayayaya And this for my friends birthday (I ordered it the other day, his birthday is today, but it'll presumably come in a few). Seemed apprope', since he likes superheroes / plays heroclix and stuff but never really got into the comics beyond select things.
Paj! Posted August 31, 2010 Posted August 31, 2010 (edited) I read it when it was printed in Batman Legends a few years ago, but I wouldn't mind owning a copy. Only a fiver or so on Amazon. P.S When will you people read Animal Man? It's the greatest thing Morrison's done that doesn't alienate people opposed to his sort of style (since it isn't in his "style"). The standalone issue 5 (IIRC) is...amazing. Even highlights it on the back of the trade as well. Stun. The best damn thing. And great rereading too, as you see the seeds planted for the final issues (26 or something) as early on as issues 6-7 and stuff. Brill. Edited August 31, 2010 by Paj!
