Posted June 23, 2011 Share Posted June 23, 2011 The Ultimate line of Marvel comics began in the early 2000's and just took the concepts of the main marvel heroes and kinda 'started again' in their own way, ditching continuity and taking a more modern, less bogged-down approach. Remember the game Ultimate Spider-Man for PS2/Xbox and GC? It's based on the Ultimate Spider-Man comics. Nick Fury [samuel L Jackson] in the current Marvel films is only black because he is in the Ultimate comics, and this version has been very popular. Part of me never ever ever wants you to leave Invincible, but part of me wants Invincible hospitalised for 12 issues, it conecntrating on the other cast members, drawn by a multitude of artists (Walker, Asrar, Getty if I'm having a choice) and for you to do an epic 12-part arc similar in vision, size and awesomeness to the BEAUTIFUL Marvel Knights Spider-man by the Dodson's. Igor Kordey *vomits* gets art duties, and here doesn't have Grant Morrison writing to make his art ok. There's a terrible/convoluted/shit 'sequel' to God Loves, Man Kills, after which things go downhill. After that is an interminable story which I seem to remember being about Rogue taking some one-eyed bitch to court. Or the other way road. It's crap. I stopped during The Arena storyline. My god. Claremont tropes like fetishism, possession and body-morphification (made-up word) on full display, only typically done badly. It's crap. Just read the Salvador Larroca stuff, basically. Some decent stuff in there. Fair summary. It starts interestingly enough with a cool concept and a dramatic first arc but it goes totally off the rails soon enough. Even the big pitch story, which forms the team in the first place, is rushed, cast aside and forgotten. Personally, I wouldn't buy it. It's not consistent or important enough to warrant spending on.
