Personally I don't care what system we are in, no player should be earning that amount of money...and I mean NO Player.
I think you missed my point there mate. What I was saying was, it's precisely BECAUSE of the economic system we have that John Terry was able to get 130k. We can change the system to stop this, but if we do we'll likely become another country that needs help like Africa in a long run. Free economy is the key to becoming a rich country.

I agree with that sentiment... I think teachers deserve more too.

We give too much attention to entertainment in today's world. Like movies, TV, football, music etc. That gives them a lot of money to work with (e.g. Sky TV give shed loads of money to prem league & clubs because lots of people watch them). Combine that with the prestige that prem league has, it's a massive economy in its own right.

One way to stop this is to reduce support. If demand is cut, supply is cut too so prem league will become poorer and insignificant. We have to choose one or the other.

Don't complain about there being too much money in football when it's you that's putting the fucking money in. Stop going to games, stop buying the shirts, and cancel your Sky subscription if you don't like it. Otherwise, shut up.

lol. Here's our very own Mr. Capitalist. I agree completely though. There isn't a lot we can do about it unless we change the system to have poorer life ourselves. Capitalism's theory says that if we're all greedy, the standard of living gets better for the whole country. It has worked looking back the last 60 years, but with it came some nasties.

I was behind that goal and to the right. It was absolutely stunning, I can not wait for the season to start now. :D

Same here mate, same here. I saw that goal after I had come back from a boring day out, and it just completely changed my mood. :yay: For the whole of the night, I have been one happy bunny. Mainly because of that sexy goal.

Bring on the Prem!!!!!:yay:

Arsenal looked better in that match, not to mention we were missing Gilberto, Adebayor, Rosicky, Walcott, and Eduardo has yet to get his work permit so he missed out too. Maybe we can surprise a few people. And with Wenger stating he hopes to get another player or two maybe we're not a total write off.

Hleb also scared the shit out of me today, he played amazing, the best I've ever seen him play. I thought I was going to have to go on the pitch and pull off a mask scooby doo style.

All that over some poor competition. Sorry it sounds rude, but come on its the Asia Cup, some of the teams were awful.

A good quality Winger would make us big contenders if our current strikers can play and score consistenly rather than be potentially good.

Anelka would give us that cutting edge upfront and would make a immediate impact but a winger is a must.

Too bad we've already missed out on a couple who's left for new clubs already.

You do realise your bashing a country that has been suffering terribly in recent times because they celebrated something good happening to them for once.

I don't want to turn this topic into a whole political debate so I'll keep this short, but I doubt many Iraqi's still in Iraq are celebrating a football tournament whilst trying to avoid militia car bombs.

Needless to say I'd have the same thought about any team celebrating the asia cup in the streets of london. Its nothing personal against Iraq or its people, more of an over reaction to a lacklustre competition.

well Japan, South Korea (remember them), australia and saudi arabia are actually quite good teams. players all over the world from the prem to the italian and dutch leagues making them on the conterary, quite worthy adverseries (sp?).

bring on the confederations and intercontinental cups.

ps. there were celebrations all over iraq from baghdad to basra, iternationally from london to detroit, damascus, dubai and berlin.

Yeah, credit where it is due they beat the best teams in Asia, granted their not the best in the world but it's good to see a country who is literally in hell succeed on the field.

That was some goal by Van Persie, personally I think Arsenal are this years dark horses, the will he won't he stay situaton regarding Henry has now been lifted. Wenger can now get his players in order and start pushing on. Remember what happend when you lost Viera and you got to the Champions League Final, It's sods law that Arsenal will probably

Arsenal won't do too bad for the team that they have at their disposal, RVP is a class act and I am fond fan of Toure and Eboue Tourre is possibly one of the best in Europe and I would love to have him at Liverpool but I don't think we need him!

They will do well to finish ahead of Spurs this season, and I do think 4th Place is a pretty much certainty for The Gunners.3rd Place is not out of the question yet but I think they will surpise a few people and will possibly pick up a cup during the course of the season...

PS...Got my Chelsea Home Ticket!

I agree with your sentiments. If we were to talk about poor teams there are plenty in UEFA cup as well, but that doesn't make it worthless to win. Another thing to bear in mind, as much as I've seen on eurosports recently asian teams are getting very good. I think one big factor has been the diabolically high competitiveness. Especially this year. If I'm not mistaken, Japan/South Korea/Iran/Saudi Arabia are the typical top 4 and with Australia in it, there are 5 close teams. Iraq winning the cup was completely unexpected.

I think a lot of criticisms directed at Asia's football has more to do with stereotyping and dark ages that they were in till late 90s (which isn't all that long ago). There just isn't a very good impression of them, full stop. I wonder how many people in this country actually know much about asian football, never mind watch them. Yet many are quick to knock them.

Asian football isn't in the same league as European and South American football, but it is definitely improving, and quite rapidly. Just like African football.

A lot of top quality playes have been coming out of Africa since early 90s. Asia is a little harder to think of a player of say Okocha or Kanu's class.

Shunsuke Nakamura and Hidetoshi Nakata are the only 2 I can think of off the top of my head who have proven themselves at the highest level

There have been some like them, just not have the prem league connection. Most we hear about "Asian football" here in the UK is when it has something to do with marketting football in asia, so that part becomes dominant in people's minds, I reckon. I think they're just underrated overall and they're to blame too as they didn't bother coming out of the dark ages till mid 90s. Some asian countries still are in dark ages, as much as I understand. It is changing though and I realized that watching this year's asian cup.
