Ramar Posted June 9, 2007 Posted June 9, 2007 nope the object of chess is to checkmate your opponent. The object of soccer is to Shoot the ball into the net. Also to add strategy you can also(wait for it) PASS the ball.. The object of football is to win the game, and the ultimate goal to win the tournament or league you are playing in.
Ant-Shimmin Posted June 9, 2007 Posted June 9, 2007 Oh man cmon i like you but you can't say things like that. I mean ignoring rugby have you ever seen a baseball game or anything?.. No, Football is the most popular and most followed sport in the world. The passion and pride cannot be matched anywhere. I love the sport so much it makes me cry like a woman when we lose or win
motion Posted June 9, 2007 Posted June 9, 2007 No, Football is the most popular and most followed sport in the world. The passion and pride cannot be matched anywhere. I would bet that my pride and passion for Leicester Tigers and England is matched by your pride for Liverpool and England.
Ant-Shimmin Posted June 9, 2007 Posted June 9, 2007 I would bet that my pride and passion for Leicester Tigers and England is matched by your pride for Liverpool and England. Maybe so
mcj metroid Posted June 9, 2007 Posted June 9, 2007 My point was you are just making things stupidly simple...which you've just done again. Then complicate it for me. It's not my fault that I can't see much more to it than that.Ok put it like this i have never played soccer before and you want to teach me what the game is about. What do you say? You kick the ball into the net.... If the same situation is applied to rugby the answer would be far more complicated don't you think? That brings me back to my point soccer is so simple 6 year olds play it I never see the same for rugby. The object of football is to win the game, and the ultimate goal to win the tournament or league you are playing in. Hey you are telling me there is more to rugby than soccer? Besides positing is there anything else.
gmac Posted June 9, 2007 Posted June 9, 2007 so incidents like the All Blacks spearing O'driscoll into the turf dislocating his shoulder, and the regular punches that occur during games, not to mention the raking of studs into opposition players in rucks (or mauls, get them mixed up) which the ref never sees proves that players of Rugby have more respect does it? I've seen more on field illegal violence in Rugby than I ever have watching Football and I've seen much more Football than Rugby
motion Posted June 9, 2007 Posted June 9, 2007 Just noticed you're Oirish mcj. Have to say around Europe, Irish rugby supporters are definately the friendliest and most welcoming. Glad we lost to them at Croke Park and not the Welsh! Oh wait... we lost to them a few weeks later as well *sniff*
mcj metroid Posted June 9, 2007 Posted June 9, 2007 No, Football is the most popular and most followed sport in the world. The passion and pride cannot be matched anywhere. I love the sport so much it makes me cry like a woman when we lose or win I understand but that doesn't mean it's the best though. It's impossible to determine which sport is the best because it's all opinion but the mainstream public is usually never right. U2 are probably the most popular well known band worldwide these days but does that mean they are the best? No in fact i can't stand them. Soccer is a good sport but it's posing it's way slightly. It's only the last 10 years when this'money thing' started controlling the game. it now seems like a millionaires playground.
motion Posted June 9, 2007 Posted June 9, 2007 atmospheres in busy libaries can compete with atmosphere's generated from rugby fans... Watching football is like watching paint dry. See, not difficult to be childish.
mcj metroid Posted June 9, 2007 Posted June 9, 2007 atmospheres in busy libaries can compete with atmosphere's generated from rugby fans... Oh dear god.... Rugby has a far more lively crowd. I'm really going by watching Irish international matches perhaps the english team is dead boring:)
gmac Posted June 9, 2007 Posted June 9, 2007 Oh dear god.... Rugby has a far more lively crowd. I'm really going by watching Irish international matches perhaps the english team is dead boring:) well being that the England team only seem capable of winning through Johnny Wilkinson's boot then that is quite boring
DCK Posted June 9, 2007 Posted June 9, 2007 I don't see why anyone non-British would prefer rugby here.
motion Posted June 9, 2007 Posted June 9, 2007 maybe to you cos ur obese and never had the ability to play it, but its not to a billion other people on this planet And you know I'm obese how? I don't want to play it, better things to do than kick a round ball to different people.
Daft Posted June 9, 2007 Posted June 9, 2007 Then complicate it for me. It's not my fault that I can't see much more to it than that.Ok put it like this i have never played soccer before and you want to teach me what the game is about. What do you say? You kick the ball into the net.... If the same situation is applied to rugby the answer would be far more complicated don't you think? I would love to tell you about the intricacies of football but I would spend all day writting and I can't even think of where to begin. Tbh, I'm lazy and in being so I'm not going to try an covince you. Whats annoying is not your ignorance - its your illusion of knowledge. And if rugby is as complicated? I don't really think that is relevant.
motion Posted June 9, 2007 Posted June 9, 2007 I don't see why anyone non-British would prefer rugby here. Because rugby is the national sport in Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and is followed hugely in France and Italy?
conzer16 Posted June 9, 2007 Posted June 9, 2007 This thread has moved fairly swiftly since last night And I'm not going to read every post but I assume it was motion vs Everyone else?? As I was saying last night, both games are very close to my heart. I have played both, attended both and watched both. I voted rugby because I believe Rugby to be a more tasteful, spirited and respectful game - I'm not saying soccer isn't but rather Rugby beats soccer on those counts in my opinion. As I have also said, I hold 2 other game even dearer to my heart, but in a competition between Rugby and Soccer I find it very hard to choose and only barely chose one over the other. Everyone on these boards who knows me knows I am an avid fan of Leeds United! I follow them with a passion. I follow Leinster with a passion in Rugby. I follow Ireland with quite a passion in Soccer and Rugby. They are 2 fantastic sports which in essence cannot be compared because of their complete and utter dissimilarities but ultimately always will be. I don't see why anyone non-British would prefer rugby here. Rugby is a huge game in Ireland nowadays. We enjoy more success with out International Rugby team than with our International Association Football team. Rugby isn't peculiar to Britain any any means. Do you know how nig Rugby is outside of The Netherlands? In France/Italy/Georgia/Argentina/Africa/Australia/New Zealand/Japan/Canada etc etc etc??
Ramar Posted June 9, 2007 Posted June 9, 2007 atmospheres in busy libaries can compete with atmosphere's generated from rugby fans... Would we agree the Highbury Library was louder than most atmospheres at rugby games?
Ant-Shimmin Posted June 9, 2007 Posted June 9, 2007 Would we agree the Highbury Library was louder than most atmospheres at rugby games? Amen to that! Remember the Screaming Highbury Lady...who screamed everytime Arsenal got near the ball!
mcj metroid Posted June 9, 2007 Posted June 9, 2007 I usually find that England only like the sports they are good at? Maybe that sounds silly i say this because cricket is the worst sport i have ever seen in my life and yet some of you seem to like it:) It boggles the mind. Let's end this by saying that pro wrestling beats all!! *Grabs flame shield*
gmac Posted June 9, 2007 Posted June 9, 2007 Amen to that! Remember the Screaming Highbury Lady...who screamed everytime Arsenal got near the ball! I miss her, she must be miles from the pitch now it was actually any time any opposition player got the ball in Arsenal's half
Shino Posted June 9, 2007 Posted June 9, 2007 I think I have an idea why he likes rugby so much. Granted if I was covered in women, I would be happy too.
mcj metroid Posted June 9, 2007 Posted June 9, 2007 Don't think i'll ever get tired of posting that. So therefore you see we should like soccer better:)
conzer16 Posted June 9, 2007 Posted June 9, 2007 I don't know why people have resorted to slagging the other sport off?? One Two things are certain - International Rugby players are by no means women - and only a small minority of football fans actually are hooligans. Edit: Lets all agree to disagree on which is the best sport, but can we not slag the other off?
