At least there's still somebody that isn't affraid to drop the mac-bomb anymore. Apparantly, being killed by Windows-fans isn't a thread anymore. Anyway, I would really take one of these simply because Windows can be ran on it anyway, meaning you've got a combination of a great OS with the patch-a-watch OS we all know as 'Microsoft Windows'.

Just fun.

What did i say? :p

Besides, Vista is by far the best OS i've ever used and you act as if OS X is never ever patched anyway!

I'd agree, soooo cheap and pretty darn powerful too, but if you want to play games get a windows native beast.

I'm waiting on some crazy version of parallels that will allow me to run games in XP while on OS X, i can dream . . . still i can play Starcraft II when it comes out so ^_^

"Cheap" is comparative. One person's cheap can be another person's expensive.

Anyway, yes, lets help out the poor man with his laptop wanting woes rather than bring up this old topic again :p

Firstly, most games ain't gunna run on an Mobility graphic chip, in the slightest. RAM has nothing to do with it because mobility chips all have shared memory.

Also, the X1600 is a weak GPU no matter if you have it in a computer or laptop.

Whatever you bought is MASSIVLY over priced. I found a Dell XPS gaming laptop for £40 less than the most expensive Mac book Pro, with a miles better spec. 4 Gigs of ram, 2.6ghz CPU (Core 2 Duo), GeForce Go! 7950GTX.

No matter how you're looking at this, you're buying into a brand. Not because of it actually being any good. Seriously, stop kidding yourself.

your buying a system that has OS X on it, and in the case of the macbook, lots of nice little features. i'm happy with the graphics card cos i can run WoW on full and suffer zero lag, so i'm hopeful at being able to run starcraft 2 at a decent setting as well.

if i wanted a gaming PC i'd have got one, i wanted a mac that could run wow and mac games at a nice graphical level smoothly and thats what i got. no need to justify my purchase for it shall be the only computer i need for the next few years-unlike my laptop which died when it was just over a year old.

One thing that I find is that you're always telling people they're wrong for liking Macs. I remember once when you asked how many Mac users had actually used Windows in recent years, and I have to say have you actually used a Mac recently?

A fair few Mac users have switched from Windows to Mac, so it's not like everyone said 'well, we're using the best but lets pay more for some worse'.

You're argument appears to be the power of the hardware isn't worth the price, but to many people, they're willing to pay more because they prefer the OS. We don't all fall for what Apple tell us.

I'm not saying you're wrong, as there is no right answer to the PC vs Mac debate. I know as some who is into games, you will obviously prefer PC (before taking you're Apple hatred into account).

I don't really know what my point is, but all I'm saying is you appear to be just as unwilling to accept some people prefer Macs, as some Mac owners are to accepting some people prefer Windows.

Erm... yeah.

My advice: get something with a decent graphics chip. IE: Anything ATi Radeon Mobility or nVidia GeForce Go! series. Core 2 Duo is a great CPU to choose too and lastly get atleast a gig of ram on the thing.

erm just rereading the thread and your saying here that my graphics chip is decent. . . and my processor is a great cpu, and my ram also meets this spec. . . hmmmmmmmm yet you contradict yourself when i post about my MBPro hmmmmm . . .

have you actually used OS X 10.4 for any length of time, as That Guy asks as well?

I'm not saying OS X is better than anything else. I'm saying I prefer it to anything else.

As for the patching thing, I asked once before but never got an answer, does Windows have something so I can set my computer to update on a certain date/time? Because this is something that botheres me, having auto updates come on every time I switch my computer on, and then it telling me I need to restart and coming up and reminding me every couple of minutes, while I'm trying to do something.

I have used OSX 10.4. I don't see what all the fuss is about. It looks pretty, but no more so than Vista. It lacks so many things i'm used to on a PC and it frustrates me that so many programs don't work.

I don't see where this whole mantra about Vista and XP being awful comes from. You can chose when you want updates installing and when you want your PC resetting now in Vista. XP's whole annoying popping up of 'You need to reset' has been gotten rid of.

I understand your whole point of PC vs Mac debate, I just don't understand why you would want one, unless you're doing video editing or something.

I mean, let me just try break this down:

1, It is more difficult to upgrade a Mac, unless you have a Power PC mac.

2, Vista has not only been shown to load programs faster but more efficently than OSX when the same program is used.

3, Hardware is over priced when buying a Mac.

4, You're technically paying ALOT for Mac OSX.

5, The whole thing about patching, yes when you have an OS used by millions and millions of people with billions of different system configuations rather than a few set specs you have to patch it.

6, People who own a Mac think that they are 'immune' to viruses and spyware. Viruses are on the rise for Macs, sooner or later a huge increase will happen.

7, The people who own Mac's are most of their time completely up their own asses. I don't know why you'de think because your using something totally encased in white makes you better somehow.

8, Mac's look horrible, honestly. The whole white thing is just... bleh. Give me black or silver anyday.

the price difference between similarly spec'd mac and PCs is about 100 quid ish, before i got my MBPro i looked around to make sure i couldn't find a significantly better vista laptop for the same price-and i couldn't.

My macbook looks like this :-

17042007040.jpg

you like?

It's silver and less than an inch thick with automatic light up keyboard and mag safe and all the other nice pro features. Also you can get the MB in black, and the older Apple products of the 90s were in black alot, then the iMac happened and everything went colourful, then the iPod then things started going white.

and isn't it difficult to upgrade any laptop up to a certain point?

Why pay £100 for a different colour? Are Apple racist? :(

price difference is £70 as the black one has a larger HDD than the white top end one. and if i was to buy a macbook i'd get it in black because i'm paranoid about discolouration.

A line that comes up fairly often in Apple's marketing spiel is 'it just works'. I know, it sounds almost cringeworthy, but from experience, it's true. I bought a Mac Mini recently. I unpacked it, plugged it in, switched it on, and after clicking through a few welcome screens it was all set up and ready to go. It recognised my wireless internet connection and printer without the need for any settings or drivers. I thought I'd put some photos on there, so I plugged my camera in, and iPhoto loaded automatically and started transferring them across. My iPod was the same. There was no unnecessary software to remove. I was able to set up a network with my iBook without any trouble. And I've never had any problems with any of my Macs. Not a single crash.

No, I haven't used Windows properly for some time, so maybe all of the above is true for PCs these days. But I don't care. My Mac just works and I love it :D
