Paj! Posted February 8, 2009 Posted February 8, 2009 PJ Harvey & John Parish - Taut Jesus save me Jesus save me Can I tell you something ? Can I tell you a story ? It's about me and Billy 'Cause I remember I remember it all started when he bought that car It was the first thing he'd ever owned apart from me And the colour was red And the colour was red and he drove me He drove me out of my mind I'm over it now It was spring or summer sixty five I don't remember Steaming and sweating and sticking against the wheel And I could see the tendons stand out in the back of his neck And he used to make me pray, wearing a mask like a death's head When he put me there in the back seat, and he said Jesus save me Jesus save me Inherited his father's hate that what he'd say And he custom of destruct the pain of every escape but somehow He could make joy come loose inside I would feel really I would feel really and truly alive And I would do anything for him It just wasn't enough It was never enough He'd turn to me and say He'd, he'd say "even the son of god had to die, my darling" And he wanted everything He wanted everything He wanted the honey from the king Each new moon He used to make me pray Every morning Hidden in the backseat, such Jesus He'd make me pray And he'd in there when he wanted everything He wanted the honey from the king Say it "Even the son of god had to die my darling" Go on, say it! Jesus save me Jesus save me That's an amazing song.
Goafer Posted March 14, 2009 Posted March 14, 2009 One of the best lyrics I heard was from a Paramore song. Most of their lyrics seems a bit pointless to me but one stood out. "Don't look up, just let them think there's no place else you'd rather be" Not sure why, possibly because I used to work in a boring job with people who occasionally liked to be douchebags.
Paj! Posted March 15, 2009 Posted March 15, 2009 Dogs Of L.A - Liz Phair The canyon air is like a breath of fresh L.A. I was a Star Trek crew member, with my Beatle boots and my Super-8 And I raced you to the top, the camera gets a stuttered shot Of me approaching a painted shrine I kissed the Buddah and made him cry I kissed the Buddah and made him cry Georgie, I'm your friend And the shit-brown reservoir is a testament to the dogs of L.A. They hold the place like the mafia, and say, "Run me around again." The sawed-off tree trunks stand among the living palms You were beaming as I focused in, and I panned along And I raced you to the top, kicking snakes up from dusty rocks Young Abe Vigoda plays Frankenstein I kissed the Buddah and made him cry I kissed the Buddah and made him cry Georgie, I'm your friend And the shit-brown reservoir is a testament to the dogs of L.A. They hold the place like the mafia, and say, "Run me around again, I wanna go again."
somme Posted March 16, 2009 Posted March 16, 2009 Placebo - My Sweet Prince Never thought you'd make me perspire. Never thought I'd do you the same. Never thought I'd fill with desire. Never thought I'd feel so ashamed. Me and the dragon can chase all the pain away. So before I end my day, remember.. My sweet prince, you are the one My sweet prince you are the one Never thought I'd have to retire Never thought I'd have to abstain Never thought all this could back fire Close up the hole in my vein Me and my valuable friend can fix all the pain away So before I end my day remember My sweet prince you are the one My sweet prince you are the one you are the one you are the one you are the one you are the one Never thought I'd get any higher Never thought you'd fuck with my brain Never thought all this could expire Never thought you'd go break the chain Me and you baby, still flush all the pain away So before I end my day remember My sweet prince you are the one My sweet prince you are the one you are the one you are the one you are the one you are the one you are the one you are the one you are the one you are the one My sweet prince My sweet prince
Daft Posted March 18, 2009 Posted March 18, 2009 The Whitest Boy Alive Island When I got back along my road, All the trees had come out the screen. Nobody called for many days. I was left in my little world. Lived through the smell of painted floors, Echoing the sound. Off running water through the pipes, And posters falling down. When I woke up the second day, All the noises have disappeared. Down the street I chose a path, And walked to the end of it. Of all the words you sent to me, There was one that I couldn't bear. One that for me meant everything, I think you got mixed up with care, Taking care, taking care. Live on the island. Live on the island. Live on the island. Live on the island. http://www.myspace.com/thewhitestboyalive
Molly Posted March 18, 2009 Posted March 18, 2009 ^^I don't think I properly listened to the lyrics when I heard it the other day, it's a different song now, love it more.
Paj! Posted March 18, 2009 Posted March 18, 2009 My favourite song about masturbation/sexual awakening vs. religion/upbringing/family/the ties that bind. Stealing Daft's format here; Icicle - Tori Amos I have a hiding place when spring marches in. Will you keep watch for me? I hear them calling... Gonna lay down... ...Gonna lay down Greeting the monster in our easter dresses, Father says"Bow your head like the good book says". Well I think the good book is missing some pages. Gonna lay down... ...Gonna lay down And when my hand touches myself, I can finally rest my head. And when they say take of his body, I think I'll take from mine instead. Getting off, Getting off, While they're all downstairs Singing prayers Sing away He's in my pumpkin p.j.'s Lay your book on my chest Feel the word Feel the word Feel the word The word - feel it! I could have! I should have! I could have flown! You know I could have! I should have! I didn't go. Icicle, Icicle Where are you going? I have a hiding palce when spring marches in. WIll you keep watch for me, I hear them calling? Gonna lay down ...Gonna lay down
Daft Posted March 19, 2009 Posted March 19, 2009 DJ Shadow Audio Blood on the Motorway And now... Eternity. Be still now I am with you I am deep within you You are at peace You cannot be harmed You will not suffer Breathe deeply Breathe in the healing love of the universe And breathe out the sickness which has taken you I am with you. Its easy Its like breathing Its like a heartbeat Its easy I've not betrayed your ideals Your ideals betrayed you What are you gonna do? Your eyes will not close Your tongue barely speaks But I can still feel you I can still feel you So come, come relax, grin, let the changes in Come on, come relax Grin, Let the laughter, let the laughter Let the laughter begin Well come on, relax, grin, let the changes in, Relax, grin, let the changes in Let the changes in Come on, come on relax Time is done The sun has gone It's too late Eternity has come. Probably the most beautiful song about a car crash ever.
Jav_NE Posted March 23, 2009 Posted March 23, 2009 Can't beat a bit of tongue in cheek anger at the world when you've had a bad day... Meat Loaf - Life Is A Lemon And I Want My Money Back It's all or nothing And nothing's all I ever get Everytime I turn it on I burn it up and burn it out It's always something There's always something going wrong That's the only guarantee That's what this is all about It's a never ending attack Everything's a lie and that's a fact Life is a lemon and I want my money back! And all the morons And all the stooges with their coins They're the ones who make the rules It's not a game--it's just a rout There's desparation There's desparation in the air It leaves a stain on all your clothes And no detergent gets it out And we're always slipping thru the cracks Then the movie's over--fade to black Life is a lemon and I want my money back! What about love? It's Defective! It's always breaking in half What about sex? It's Defective! It's never built to really last What about family? It's Defective! All the batteries are shot What about friends? They're Defective! All the parts are out of stock What about hope? It's Defective! It's corroded and decayed What about faith? It's Defective! It's tattered and it's frayed What about your Gods? They're Defective! They forgot the warranty What about your town? It's Defective! It's a dead end street to me What about your school? It's Defective! It's a pack of useless lies What about your work? It's Defective! It's a crock and then you die What about your childhood? It's Defective! It's dead and buried in the past What about your future? It's Defective! And you can shove it up your ass! It's a never ending attack Everything's a lie and that's a fact Life is a lemon and I want my money back! And we're always slipping thru the cracks Then the movie's over--fade to black Life is a lemon and I want my money back!

Paj! Posted April 7, 2009 Posted April 7, 2009 Ireland by Tori Amos (widely regarded as "an abortion of a song" by her fans, but I love the lyrics in the verses.) Drivin' in my Saab On my way to Ireland It's been a long time It's been a long time Drivin' with my friends On my way to Ireland It's been a long time It's been a long time So when I was out in the desert And a cowboy tried to lasso me He said "You're red and made of clay, A Virgin Portrait." I let him wake me. But decided not to stay. [Chorus] Next in New York, I fell out with a dragon Of the white collar kind But just as ferocious... I remembered Macha Running faster than the horses Then an encounter with a voice that caressed me... [chorus] Wasn't it you who Held off a surrender? To one spoiled nun who taught you the names Of the mountains on the moon? And then a Jesuit Proceded to arrange your soul While I prayed On my knees...!
Razz Posted April 25, 2009 Posted April 25, 2009 No exaggeration here, Ireland is probably the worst song she has ever produced.
Paj! Posted April 26, 2009 Posted April 26, 2009 No exaggeration here, Ireland is probably the worst song she has ever produced. How so? I agree that the chorus seems a bit.. "Hmm.", but I think it's a slick production that is satisfying to listen to. And I love the verse lyrics. I don't see how it's bad. It does seem a bit like "Oh I have these decent lyrics, I'll attach it to this shit improv I just did about Ireland" but it works. You HAVE heard 500 miles, right? :p Better than most of ADP. But then of late, I can no longer listen to ADP as the terrible mixing is unbearable. I love Cars & Guitars and Sleeps With Butterflies etc. SWB is better solo, but still, it's got a nice melody.
Daft Posted May 18, 2009 Posted May 18, 2009 Kings of Convenience Misread If you wanna be my friend, You want us to get along. Please do not expect me to Wrap it up and keep it there. The observation I am doing could Easily be understood As cynical demeanour, But one of us misread... And what do you know It happened again. A friend is not a means, You utilize to get somewhere. Somehow I didn't notice, friendship is an end. What do you know, It happened again. How come no-one told me, All throughout history, The loneliest people Were the ones who always spoke the truth. The ones who made a difference By withstanding the indifference I guess it's up to me now Should I take that risk or just smile? What do you know, It happened again. What do you know... I really love this track.
Caligula Posted May 18, 2009 Posted May 18, 2009 Leonard Cohen Now in Vienna there's ten pretty women There's a shoulder where death comes to cry There's a lobby with nine hundred windows There's a tree where the doves go to die There's a piece that was torn from the morning And it hangs in theGallery of Frost Aey, aey, aey, aey Take this waltz, take this waltz Take this waltz with the clamp on its jaws Oh I want you, I want you, I want you On a chair with a dead magazine In the cave at the tip of the lily In some hallway where love's never been On a bed where the moon has been sweating In a cry filled with footsteps and sand Aey, aey, aey, aey Take this waltz, take this waltz Take its broken waist in your hand This waltz, this waltz, this waltz, this waltz With its very own breath of brandy and death Dragging its tail in the sea There's a concert hall in Vienna Where your mouth had a thousand reviews There's a bar where the boys have stopped talking They've been sentenced to death by the blues But who is it climbs to your picture With a garland of freshly cut tears? Aey, aey, aey, aey Take this waltz, take this waltz Take this waltz it's been dying for years There's an attic where children are playing Where I've got to lie down with you soon In a dream of Hungarian lanterns In the mist of some sweet afternoon And I'll see what you've chained to your sorrow All your sheep and your lilies of snow Aey, aey, aey, aey Take this waltz, take this waltz With its, I'll never forget you, you know This waltz, this waltz, this waltz, this waltz With its very own breath of brandy and death Dragging its tail in the sea And I'll dance with you in Vienna I'll be wearing a river's disguise The hyacinth wild on my shoulder My mouth on the dew of your thighs And I'll bury my soul in a scrapbook With the photographs there, and the moss And I'll yield to the flood of your beauty My cheap violin and my cross And you'll carry me down on your dancing To the pools that you lift on your wrist Oh my love, oh my love Take this waltz, take this waltz It's yours now, it's all that there is
Paj! Posted May 18, 2009 Posted May 18, 2009 Leonard Cohen has some truly beautiful lyrics. Hallelujah obviously everyone knows, but also Famous Blue Raincoat and Time. I'm not a fan of his voice particularly, but his songs are great.
Naomi Posted May 18, 2009 Posted May 18, 2009 I like snip its of certain songs(most of them being by bright eyes of course) instead of the whole song so I'll post a few i guess. -Bright Eyes- "There's kids playing guns in the street, and ones pointing his tree branch at me. So I put my hands up i said "enough is enough" if you walk away I'll walk away...So he shot me dead. Yeah I've found a liquid cure, to my landlocked blues. Then they'll pass away, like a slow parade. I know I'm leaving but I don't know how soon." "I want a lover I don't have to love. I want a girl who's to sad to give a fuck. Wheres the kids with the chemicals? I got a hunger and I can't seem to get full. I need a meaning I can memorize , the kind I have always seems to slip my mind." "You write such pretty words, but life's no story book. Love is an excuse to get hurt, and to hurt. Do you like to hurt? I do. Then hurt me..." "I want to be the surgeon that cuts you open, fixes all your life mistakes. I want to be that house that you were raised in, the only place that you feel safe. Yeah I want to be the shower in the morning that wakes you up and makes you clean. But I know I'm just the weather against the window as you sleep through a winters dream."
Paj! Posted May 18, 2009 Posted May 18, 2009 My favourite lyric from Tori Amos' new album; "Dyin'! Fryin'!!! (Rather have a lie-in)" Also the absolutely legendary, "To get off, he cries "Slut-tee GOTH", but ahm ah brightly col-huh-hulored persahn. Police yo'self! Police yo'self! POLICE ME." What does that even mean? I love though.
Grazza Posted May 18, 2009 Posted May 18, 2009 I'm obsessed with this one at the moment. It's so funky. Also, it's a heartwarming song of friendship. Bret, You Got it Goin' On (Flight of the Conchords) Hey there Bret, I see you looking down. Don't want to see my little buddy there with a frown. Just because I get more women than you, well that's only because they don't know you like I do. Sure, you're weedy and kind of shy. But some girlie out there must be needy for a weedy, shy guy. They want you as the needle when they're rolling in the hay. Just hear me out when I say... Bret, you got it going on. The ladies will get to know your sexuality when they get to know your personality. I said, Bret, you got it going on. Not in a gay way, just in a "hey mate, I wanted to say that you're looking okay, mate." Why can't a heterosexual guy, Tell a heterosexual guy that he thinks his booty is fly. Not all the time, obviously, just when he's got a problem with his self esteem. Don't let anybody tell you you're not humpable. Because you're bumpable. Well, I hope this doesn't make you feel uncomfortable. If I say you've got a boom ow-ow. Come on Bret, help me out now. Bret, you got it going on. (You got it going on!) That's the conclusion that I've come to. But that doesn't mean that I want to bum you. Bret, you got it going on. (Got it going on...) No doubt about it, we'd be gettin crazy. If one of us was lucky enough to be born a lady. If one of us was a lady, and I was your man, if I was your man. Well, sometimes it gets lonely, and I need a woman. And then I imagine you with some bosoms. In fact, one time when we were touring and I was really lonely. And we were sharing that twin room in the hotel. I put a wig on you, when you were sleeping, I put a wig on you. Oh, ohhh, oooooh, oh, and I just laid there and spooned you. Bret, you got it going on.
Razz Posted May 19, 2009 Posted May 19, 2009 So I want to kill this waitress. She's worked here a year Longer than I. If I did it fast... Although that's an act of kindness. But I believe in peace! Oh I believe in peace, BITCH I believe in peace, I believe in peace! Oh I believe in peace, BITCH I believe in peace! I want to kill this waitress. I can't believe this violence in mind. And is her power All in her club sandwich? But I believe in peace! Oh I believe in peace, BITCH I believe in peace, I believe in peace! Oh I believe in peace, BITCH I believe in peace! I want to kill this killing wish. There's too many stars. And not enough sky. Boys all think she's living kindness Ask a fellow waitress. Ask a fellow waitress.

Roostophe Posted June 6, 2009 Posted June 6, 2009 Madness - Baggy Trousers Naughty boys in nasty schools, Headmasters breaking all the rules. Having fun and playing fools, Smashing up the woodwork tools. All the teachers in the pub, Passing round the ready-rub. Trying not to think of when, The lunch-time bell will ring again. Oh, what fun we had, But did it really turn out bad? All I learnt at school, Was how to bend not break the rules. Oh, what fun we had, But at the time it seemed so bad. Trying different ways, To make a difference to the- Headmaster's had enough today, All the kids have gone away. Gone to fight with next-door's school, Every term, that is the rule. Sits alone and bends his cane, Same old backsides again. All the small ones tell tall tales, Walking home and squashing snails. Oh, what fun we had But did it really turn out bad? All I learnt at school, Was how to bend not break the rules. Oh, what fun we had, But at the time it seemed so bad. Trying different ways, To make a difference to the days. Lots of girls and lots of boys, Lots of smells and lots of noise. Playing football in the park, Kicking pushbikes after dark. Baggy trousers, dirty shirt, Pulling hair and eating dirt. Teacher comes to break it up, Back of the 'ead with a plastic cup. Oh, what fun we had. But, did it really turn out bad? All I learnt at school, Was how to bend not break the rules. Oh, what fun we had, But at the time it seemed so bad. Trying different ways, To make a difference to the days. Baggy trousers, baggy trousers, baggy trousers. Baggy trousers, baggy trousers, baggy trousers.
