thats what PC World mag would have us believe.

I mean take this quote:

latest upgrade of the world's most popular productivity suite introduces several new features that revolutionize how people work with documents

so apparently revolutioning the way you look at a virtual piece of paper is way better than anything the Wii can muster, motion sensors, pah nothing compared to:

the suite's handy new Live Preview feature, you can see how formatting changes, for example, will affect your document prior to your making them

I mean what was wrong with applying changes and then using the undo button? so now you apply the changes in preview mode and then apply them to the actual text, wow!!! the motion sensing controls of Wii Sports have got nothing on this, so what if you can put spin on your bowling ball? or top spin on a tennis ball- Nintendo what are you doing messing about with this motion sensing crap, I want Wii Word now!!!!!

Ok so it is from a PC point of view, but seriously?!!!!

Are you kidding? PC World doesn't really care about Nintendo, hence the PC and Microsoft focus.

yeah I know they really don't but how can they justify Word being the most innovative?! and the reasons I quoted just sound ridiculous...

The point I think Tellyn888 is trying to make is that PCW are, as their name suggests, a magazine about PCs. If the Wii won the prize, it would be similar to Lil' Chris winning a best speed metal award, when Lil' Chris doesn't even attempt to play speed metal (but the stuff he does try to do shouldn't win any awards anyway...).

The Wii simply has little to do with the award.

Yeah I get that...

But by that premise the Wii should never have been entered into it. Just like Lil' Chris would never be entered into the best speed metal award! but the Wii was entered in it, it came in at 4th!

When something is new, certainly in the software sector, it's pointed as innovative or revolutionizing. Just like everything in Windows Vista will be new and revolutionizing, while MacOs X had them implemented two years ago. it's just touted as that right now. I know it's silly, but Office isn't at all in the same league as the Wii. You can't compare that and if you place one above another it's based on a personal opinion only.

Just like asking someone if he wants a teddybear or a furnace. Moms will say furnace, sons will say teddy bears. That doesn't make any of both better or worse, but a personal preference. That's why we all want Wii on the top.

Have you guys actually used Office 2007? Its got the most innovative GUI i've ever seen.

...But i still think the Wii is better.

Posted

No, because if it was they wouldn't have worked on it for a full four years. Those guys have improved the details, thrown away any PDF support (I can't even remember it was ever in there) and inserted their 'Metro' support. XML, to be short - wich is inferior to the great Portable Document Format. Wich is why it's an industry standard. Off course, they have bein rescripting the entire thing to work for Vista in the last two years. They improved the look, speed and support.

But it's still worthless compared to what the creative suite can do. I hate layout in word - inDesign is far more qualified for this. But off course, Excel doesn't really have anything that comes close to it. Theere's no 'professional' excel avaible. No need for it, either.

Before this thread goes further, I would most like it if someone actually pointed out where someone explicitly stated what is implied in the title of this thread?

If that is not possible, well, my opinion of the caliber of certain posters on this forum has probably just fallen.

So your saying who intially implied that Office is more innovative than the Wii?

well the original article, which I quoted from:

http://www.pcworld.com/printable/art...printable.html

where it was Office was placed at 1 and the Wii at 4...

Is this actually a joke? They don't even mention the Wii? This is just fanboyism poking at absolutely anything, as usual.

erm... so how'd you explain this from the same article?

4. Nintendo Wii

The $250 Wii video game console boasts powerful new motion-sensing controllers that make game play both more entertaining and more active. In specially designed games, you can swing the Wii Remote or the joystick-like Nunchuck to have your character smash a tennis ball or throw a nasty left hook. It's fun and addictive, and ushers in a new era for gaming.

This is from the same article that Word came top of...

For their definition of "innovative", look at number 3:

Parallels Desktop for Mac

Note that Microsoft have sold something that does exactly the same thing for a while now. And "Google SketchUp" isn't even a new program - SketchUp has been available for years (and a toned-down free version is hardly innovative).

Yeah they are obviously coming from a different point of view, but surely if they were going to include things like that the Wii shouldn't havn't even featured? then this thread wouldn't even have existed!

Not quite the best list, then. Man, we all know what's the most innovative item this year. It's the new Barbie doll. Forget Wii, Sketchup, the Dual Core and Office. Welcome barbie RV Wagon! Or something like that. It doesn't even matter wich Barbie is the most innovative, as long as it's Barbie.

Or Wii. Wii makes a fair good chance.

It's PC world...I think that they are that impressed with it, that they just wanted it in the top 10 (but probably thought it was better to have PC-related stuff for the first 3), then assumed that they had to bung the PS3 in there somewhere, to justify putting games consoles in the list.

They say that Sony's $750 Blu-Ray ReWritable drive is more innovative than the PS3.
