drahkon Posted March 14, 2011 Posted March 14, 2011 Anyone mind giving me a quick summary of what I am to expect with the online feature? 11 days of waiting remain, but I'd like to know what I can look forward to.
Grazza Posted March 14, 2011 Posted March 14, 2011 (edited) There are two online features, dr4hkon - shopping and quests. Access to both of these become available a short while into the game. Oh, you also get visiting guests from previous Dragon Quests (they give you items of clothing). Shopping (they call it DQVC - a pun on the shopping channel "QVC") starts a new theme every Friday, such as weapons, shields etc. Quests become available from time to time (about once a month now), but you will be able to download all the ones you've missed. Grazza Posted March 18, 2011 Posted March 18, 2011 Are you serious? I knew it was a pun on something but the best I could do was Dragon Quest Virtual Console... I reckon it's that, yeah. QVC is a famous shopping channel, whereas there can't be many of us who associate "VC" with Virtual Console. I know we do, but that's us. Almost every single thing in this game is a pun. There's actually a library in DQVIII where the owner keeps books about puns! An, er... "interesting" interpretation of the monster trainer, Morrie, from DQVIII. "You're good at getting guys." WTF?!
Ike Posted March 19, 2011 Posted March 19, 2011 An, er... "interesting" interpretation of the monster trainer, Morrie, from DQVIII. "You're good at getting guys." WTF?! Lol. That was pretty much my reaction as well. This weeks DQVC is Guest Guys week. Not terribly exciting. Grazza Posted March 19, 2011 Posted March 19, 2011 I'm looking forward to Guest Girls week (if there is one), as I like to dress Kate up in Meena and Maya's stuff (LOL, listen to me - I've gone mad!) In other news, I beat Malroth at level 99. He's my least favourite Legacy Boss so far - the difficulty is easily up there with Dragonlord and Estark.
darksnowman Posted March 21, 2011 Posted March 21, 2011 This weeks DQVC is Guest Guys week. Not terribly exciting. Yeah, I've been checking it (why did I have to have my downtime during the uber armour sale?!) but have only bought the items rather than the equipment. I've not got all the stuff thats on sale, but the majority of it doesn't improve on what I have anyway. Theres been one or two things that have literally given me +1 defence but I don't think its worth getting in a fluster over. Plus, I assume this equipment is available from the guests anyway? Theres a bunch of them I'm yet to speak to... I've been spelunking again this weekend and this evening. Why oh why is this game so unputdownable? Monster Hunter has taken a back seat to make way for DQ IX to consume me again. Oh! I canvassed ONE PERSON!!

Well your in luck as it's Gal Guest Week this week! I recently got full sets of all the guest characters released so far, going to have to change the DS clock for the remaining guests though, I'm not waiting another year! Might try and get pics over the weekend.
darksnowman Posted March 26, 2011 Posted March 26, 2011 (edited) Alena's Gloves, Ashlynn's Gloves and Nera's Bracelets are obtained with 30 tags so look out for them. Really? I'll keep an eye out. I'm not going for equipment completion at the minute but one day I might regret not buying these when I had the chance. EDIT: Got Alena's gloves today. Wish I had got these earlier as I had my beloved Martial Artist kitted out in the rest of Alena's gear for the duration of the main story quest. Now though, they do nothing for my stats. drahkon Posted March 27, 2011 Posted March 27, 2011 (edited) I feel like this game is making fun of me. I'm not at the point where I can get into the multiplayer but when I choose 'Configure Nintendo Wi-Fi connection settings' and try to connect, it won't work. Connecting with my 3DS from the system's settings (using both the 3DS connection and the "normal" DS connection) works. It's annoying because it seems I won't be able to play this game online -.- Is there anything I can do? Edit: It doesn't work with Pokémon either. Edited March 27, 2011 by drahkon

Multiplayer isn't online just in case you didn't know, it's local only. The game only supports WEP encryption on your network but Pokemon should work with WPA so I'm confused as to what the problem would be. Is your wireless switch on (silly question)?
drahkon Posted March 27, 2011 Posted March 27, 2011 (edited) Multiplayer isn't online just in case you didn't know, it's local only. I meant the online shop. Stupid me. Is your wireless switch on (silly question)? It is. I just don't get it...it works fine when I try to connect outside of the game, i.e. in the System Settings. But in-game it won't work. Well, I'm not at the point where the online stuff will be available, but if I can't connect from the main menu, why should I be able to connect later... Edited March 27, 2011 by drahkon

Does it give you an error message/ code?
drahkon Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 (edited) Maybe you will be...? Does it give you an error message/ code? Yeah, I've looked up the error code and according to this the problem seems to be the security setting. Doesn't make sense though because I can connect outside of the game. When do I get access to the maps and the online shop? helped the White Knight just now and I'm on my way to the next big city. I'd appreciate it if you only gave me information about how long I have to play until I can do the online stuff if I'm fast, so no spoilers please :p Is it true that every character can take on any vocation? Vocations level up separately, don't they? If so, then I will be spending a shit load of time with this game. I'm loving it already. Edit: So it appears to be random when the Wi-Fi connects ingame -.- I can't connect from my room because it's 2 floors above the router. When I'm closer to the router it doesn't always connect, either...well, it worked once eventually and that's enough. No I have access to todays items But I can't afford them Now a question about quests: When I connected to the DQVC I got new quests, right? In the battle records it says "Extra Quest List" and the quests listed there are numbered from 121-169 and named "??????" each. Do I have to look for people who give me these quests? And where are the ones numbered from 001 to 120? Aren't they released yet? Edited March 28, 2011 by drahkon
Grazza Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 Is it true that every character can take on any vocation? Vocations level up separately, don't they? Yes, that is true. Vocations do level up separately, but by that I mean separate to each other. You don't have a normal level and a vocation level. Now a question about quests: When I connected to the DQVC I got new quests, right? Don't worry about those Extra Quests for now, because many of them require you to have completed earlier Quests. I'm not sure why you can't access 001-120. Do you not have the option "Normal Quests" underneath "Extra Quests"? If not, you may have to wait a little bit further into the game. Glad you're enjoying it and have got the online working.
drahkon Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 I'm not sure why you can't access 001-120. Do you not have the option "Normal Quests" underneath "Extra Quests"? How stupid of me. Now I understand the system behind it The Normal Quest List shows quests from 001-120 and the Extra Quest list every quest after that. I didn't realise that because because I only have quests 002, 003, 005, 007, 008 and 010 so far. Gotta backtrack a bit and talk to everyone again, I guess. Glad you're enjoying it and have got the online working. Yeah, while the items in the shop are too expensive for me, the armors I got from the guests at the inn are really useful. Vocations do level up separately, but by that I mean separate to each other. You don't have a normal level and a vocation level. I see. Alltrades Abbey. I guess, when I complete the events there I will be able to change vocations (not that I want to right now). I've also met the Alchemy Pot. Didn't know there is one in this game. DQ IX is getting better and better.
Grazza Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 Yeah, while the items in the shop are too expensive for me, the armors I got from the guests at the inn are really useful. This is a very good week not to buy things from the shop, as they're not very good (apart from for completionists). I'm sure we'll point out any really good items you should buy.

darksnowman Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 Glad you've managed to get online, drkhkon! Welcome to the DQ IX addiction clinic. Grazza will be your guide and Ike will help you with any queries when Grazza himself is in therapy. Don't pay attention to RedShell - the poor souls still in denial. One of these days he'll break down when he realises the addiction he has.

And what are you for? :p Yeah, you've got pretty far already! I hope I don't miss out on stuff 'cause I've been following the story pretty much all the way and never really explored things. I did just now (went to Port Liaffan) but an event started and I don't know if it will advance the story further even though I haven't finished business at Alltrades Abbey, so I'm on my way back now... Edit: Something I need to know: Is there a casino somewhere in the game? Edited March 28, 2011 by drahkon
darksnowman Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 And what are you for? :p I'm... *sweats* ...having withdrawal. *runs off to play DQ IX* I hope I don't miss out on stuff 'cause I've been following the story pretty much all the way and never really explored things. I did just now (went to Port Liaffan) but an event started and I don't know if it will advance the story further even though I haven't finished business at Alltrades Abbey, so I'm on my way back now... Funny you should say that. I think you are supposed to go to Port Llaffan before the stuff at Alltrades Abbey. I know I didn't, but I'm near certain I read in this thread or another forum (guilty as charged) that thats how the game is designed to be played. Its such a good game. You can kiss goodbye to 300h of your life right now. PS No casino.
drahkon Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 (edited) PS No casino. NOOOOOO. The only thing so far that's bad about this game (except for some framerate issues...). I can't wait until I reach the point where maps become available. Edited March 28, 2011 by drahkon

Don't worry about that. You don't need to go to Port Llaffan before you've finished the Alltrades quest, but nor does it matter if you do. There are no major bugs or missables in this game, so relax.
