It will most likely be a different colour glow, or an audible chime, maybe a pop-up image/message. The 3DS does a good job with friends, streetpass and spotpass notifications and I expect the WiiU to have a suitable method of distinguishing all types of notifications.

Yes, but Miiverse & the Wara Wara Plaza are here to 'enhance' your gaming experience. If you're not interested that's fine, but I can see a LOT of potential with this and many ways that devs can intuitively integrate Miiverse into their games. Honestly I feel all giddy, it looks like a lot of fun.
