Looking forward to reading the rest of the trilogy, over 5 books.

    Honestly, you should just quit after the first one, because the sequels aren't very good.

    I played through all three Dark Souls games and Bloodborne over the course of a few months a few years back, and my only regret was that there weren't more of them. So I wouldn't worry too much! In fact you're lucky, because there's also Sekiro to go through after.

    This was how I felt after I beat Dark Souls for the first time (that, and a huge sense of relief). A month later I was playing Dark Souls II...

    That could have ended badly, and you would have deserved it, too! My favorite let's play ever is DarksydePhil's blind playthrough of Dark Souls (with such classic lines as, "what are souls for?"), and he did the same thing with the first NPC in that game. He never realized that he was like one hit away from having a very angry NPC attack him every time he tried to use what's probably the most important bonfire in the game.

     

    If you hadn't murdered him for no reason, he would have tricked you into stepping up to the edge of the pit and then pushed you in. And then after you make it back to him, he's all, "well, you can't blame a guy for trying!" ::shrug: But I can, Patches. I definitely can.

    That was Yurt, the Silent Chief, you monster. The most useful NPC in the game. Will your bloodlust never be sated!? :blank:

    Actually, he begins murdering NPCs if you allow him to return to the Nexus. I kind of love that flagrant disregard for the player. He'll just outright murder all of the spell and miracle vendors in the game if you help him (and Patches, which, I mean, fair). I can't think of any other game that would do something like that.

    That's Patches the Hyena, who's actually a somewhat useful vendor early on if you don't want to grind for healing grasses.

    That said, I hate him and I'm glad you killed him. :blank:

    I was going to recommend the mouse I've been using, but after some googling it turns out it's this one, so I second this post.

    I lost all of my souls twice in 4-1. Probably about 25,000 souls in total. It's the only time I've lost souls so far, and naturally it had to happen in a level where you earn a lot of souls, and not in, like, 1-2, where you're lucky if you earn 2,000 souls before the boss. :cry:

    Soul arrows are great for dealing with pesky enemies and I've totally been abusing them (although you may want to upgrade to soul rays, which do way more damage). They're also great for dealing with pesky bosses!

    The Souls series is the hardest I've ever had to work to enjoy a video game. I love it now, but it took me all of Demon's Souls and a third of Dark Souls before it clicked. So hang in there!

    Oh, also the fifth archstone is by far the most annoying, so you may want to hold off on it for now if you're getting frustrated. They actually added a ring in 4-2 to make it easier in the remake.

    Yeah, there are some mandatory NPC invaders in the game. Pretty much the only way to get invaded if you care about soul tendency...

    I actually got killed by that invader, after making it through the entire level up to that point without dying. I was up on the ledge above and could hear someone shooting at me. Looked down, couldn't see anyone. Jumped down, and immediately got shot in the back. :blank:

    Have fun with the rolling skeletons in 4-1!

    The Nexus is such a mess. Every time I want to go upstairs to kill myself, I end up walking up the wrong set of stairs.

    If you don't mind losing your souls, you could just try a different archstone. It's kind of upsetting the first time you lose your souls, but it takes a surprisingly short amount of time to make them all back. I once lost more than 40,000 souls in Bloodborne, to put things into perspective. :blank:

    I've always seen the recommended order as being 1-1, 2-1, 3-1 and so on. 2-1 has a much easier boss, too, so you might have an easier time there.

    This is because of world tendency: dying while in body form will move an area towards black world tendency, while defeating bosses while move it towards white world tendency. Black world tendency will spawn harder enemies. Pure black/pure white world tendency also unlocks areas with unique items. The reason people kill themselves in the Nexus is because it doesn't affect world tendency.

    Well, I can explain that. We Danes do not understand Swedish when spoken, but the Swedes often understand Danish fine (if spoken slowly). So the subtitles are perhaps for the Danish people watching a native show and Netlfix just translated those without adding in the dialogue that was not subtitled?

    Nah, it wasn't Bron. I looked it up just for you, and it was The Rain.

    Anyway, I'm not sure that your theory holds water. I think it's just Netflix being Netflix, honestly.

    This is only tangentially related, but while we're on the subject of Netflix and subtitles...

    I find it kind of weird how Netflix defaults to the English dub for non-English shows. I've noticed this several times when my mom's been watching foreign shows. A while back, she was watching a show I didn't recognize and it had clearly been dubbed into English but it's like, fine, she doesn't seem to mind so it's whatever. The ironic thing, of course, is that she doesn't speak English, so the dub is completely wasted on her anyway. She's watching with Swedish subtitles (that bit's important for the rest of the story).

    So one day, she calls me into the room and says that there's something wrong with the subtitles - there aren't any when certain characters are speaking. So I think, okay, they're probably speaking, like, Russian or something and the main characters aren't able to understand what they're saying. But then she rewinds to show me what she means, and the character has been dubbed into English? So I switch over from the dub to the original language, and it turns out that it was a Danish show. I had no idea! The characters without subtitles? Swedes.

    So in their infinite wisdom, Netflix decided that, hey, we don't need Swedish subtitles when the characters are already speaking Swedish - but also, let's default to the dub where all of the characters are speaking English and still use the same subtitles.

    Baffling.

    I'm kind of glad they're finally bringing it back, if only because it means we didn't suffer through the writers going to such great lengths to keep Dexter alive for nothing.

    Clyde Phillips was showrunner for the good seasons, so ideally season 9 should start with Dexter hearing someone in the shower and opening the door and seeing Debra. And then we can all pretend that seasons 5-8 never happened.
