Nintendo Switch - Happy Switchmas Everyone!
Clownferret replied to Serebii's topic in Nintendo Gaming
Regardless of whether it's a subscription or not I just get the feeling Nintendo are leaning towards a Nintendo version of an Android type device. They showed with Wii U that they thought tablets were the way forward and now they are launching apps on Andriod. You can throw games from your phone to a tv now and I think the next progression is rather than a phone that can play games albeit rather awkwardly is a dedicated game system. I think that Starfox cartoon will be pretty close to what the NX will be. I also wouldn't be at all surprised it also supports Android so can be used for all the apps people already have. -

It's a way to shift big numbers. How many people would buy an iPhone for £600. By selling it for £25 per month it becomes instantly affordable. They need to do big numbers early on to ensure the 3rd parties don't leave AGAIN. Plus it opens the door for a subscription service. -

Nintendo keep emphasising NX is a new way to play and is not a replacement for Wii U/3DS and whilst this is probably BS it got me wondering, with their current lean towards mobile gaming could they treat NX like a mobile phone purchase and give the system away but tied in to a 2 year contract. -
Last night was just a shitfest. I'm sure I was leading in 4-5 races up to the last benight or two and them got bombarded with items and ended up 8th or 9th

I'll play if that pushes it to 2 groups

I gave up hope of this game ever being released ages ago. For a generation Daytona and Sega Rally were the pinnacle of arcade and multiplayer gaming. I never understand in these situations why a big company doesn't step in a finish the game off. The game already looks like it's nearly complete and somebody like Nintendo with an army of programmers could probably have it ready for release in a few months. I'm sure from nostalgia alone it would do pretty good numbers.

There appeared to be a lot of cameras last night so the West Ham fans who were vandalising the coach can expect lifetime bans at best and quite possibly arrests and prosecution. And what was that prat Sullivan on about saying there wasn't any damage.

I'm sure Minecraft is due a huge graphical overhaul. I wouldn't be surprised if they did something similar to Mario Maker in Minecraft 2 where you build a map using the basic graphics then choose a style/skin and it creates a beautiful HD world.

Interesting reading, regarding the carts and HDD. The problems with carts during the N64 era were purely cost related, so if there is no longer this gulf between ROM and disc based tech and chuck in the benefit of much quicker load times then I don't see why they wouldn't go down this route. I think the HDD argument is irrelevant. Yes Wii U is 32gb and PS4 500gb but my PS4 filled up a lot quicker as the games are much bigger, the bottom line is you are going to have to upgrade regardless, so it makes sense for the console to have a smaller HDD to keep the cost down. I remember Nintendo toying with RAM carts that were sold as blanks and you could go to a shop and buy a game which was loaded onto the cart. If they pursued this then the console wouldn't need a HDD as you could store downloads, saves, dlc etc onto RAM carts. Food for thought -
Local co-op is fine for single screen games like fifa but surely split screen gaming is a thing of the past.

in honour of @Phube shouldn't we play Donut Plains repeatedly this week.

Football mythology: We play attractive football = we've got no backbone We've got history = the last time we won anything was over 40 years ago We're a big club = the last time we won anything was over 40 years ago We didn't buy the title = we didn't win the title We didn't buy the title = we wish a billionaire would buy our club We have a low net spend = we always sell our best players

Why are we discussing Nintendo going software only AGAIN?! Nintendo make hardware, it's a huge part of their business. They are not going to make half of their employees redundant and stop making consoles. It's like saying to Toyota stop making cars and just make electric engines instead. -
Huge congrats to @Phube. @dazzybee do you want some sugar with those grapes.

Add him to a long list of players that Chelsea have signed and then sold on despite clearly being good players but never getting a proper run in the first team.

I'll play and will join group 2

I am wrong in thinking there is not an actual delay? This is the first time they have announced the launch date so why is everybody saying there is a 4 month delay? Maybe they wanted to launch pre Christmas and hit snags, maybe they wanted to give Wii U one more Christmas period to drain every last drop of sales from it and maybe that's just when the NX will be ready. -
what does that even mean "unlawfully killed" It was a tragedy, no doubt and the police clearly lost control of the situation, but that term doesn't sit easy with me. There was no malice, nobody said let's open a gate and kill a load of supporters.

congratulations pal and as it's worked out you should be able to celebrate at home against Everton in front of your own supporters. A truly incredible season for Leicester, the stuff of legend. I can't believe Vardy didn't get player of the year, apart from his goals driving Leicester to the title he also broke the goal scoring record at the start of the season a record that will probably last for years to come. I'm sure a Champions medal will soften the blow.
-
and to think you didn't want Pearson to be sacked. This is squeaky bum time now. When you look at Leicester's run in starting from West Ham, Swansea was the only game that looked a banker. I think you've probably got enough points in the bag now to carry you over the line, but this title race has still got some life left in it. Luckily, for you Chelsea have to play Leicester and Spurs and we hate Spurs. I wouldn't be surprised if we rolled over on the last day of the season, if it meant stopping Spurs winning the league.

from what we know, it will almost certainly have a controller with a screen I think the main difference between Nintendo and Sony/Microsoft when it comes to controllers is how they view gaming. Each generation Nintendo use a very different controller because they are constantly looking at ways to give us a different gaming experience by the way we control the game, Sony/Microsoft try to improve the gaming experience by creating more powerful consoles that change the way we see a game. I'm sure this is mainly due to how these companies operate. Nintendo makes games so looks more into the gameplay aspect, whereas Sony & Microsoft are more hardware focused, so their aim is to make the consoles as powerful as possible and leave the gameplay aspects to the 3rd parties. It's a shame Sony and Nintendo never merged, I'd love to see a console with Sony's grunt and Nintendo's panache.

I'll probably pick up day one. The Wii has has been the only Nintendo console I have not purchased day one (apart from the NES but I was about 11 when that came out) and I regretted that as I couldn't get one for months after that. I was pretty pissed off when Nintendo lost all the 3rd party support, but now I've got a PS4 it's not a deal breaker if they don't have the likes of EA on board. However, I'm still very happy with the Wii U and I'm not sure why I'd buy an NX day one if Wii U is also getting Zelda. The online on Wii U suits me fine, my experiences online with PS4 is 98% a bunch of morons calling each other cnuts all day long. Even the Mario Kart league is fairly chaotic with 12 people all talking at the same time. Voice chat has yet to convince me it's all it's cracked up to be. I sold my 3DS a while back so if NX does have a gamepad that can be used as a portable system then that will swing it. Definitely want some bloody info on the thing. As for pricing... if people think £300 for a console with two games, a tablet controller, a standard controller and free online is expensive then we might as well call it a day right now. -
that's like Tottenham saying football is awful because they can never win the league

I think Zelda and Luigis Mansion sound nailed on as day one with Smash, Splatoon and probably a couple of other Wii U titles. There will no doubt be the usual roster of Lego, Dance etc and a few 3rd party AAA titles. Zelda alone as a launch title should be enough to shift units for the first couple of months and then it's all about momentum and maintaining the 3rd party support. Wii U actually had a great launch line up but nothing followed. The launch date is critical in my opinion. It NX launches months after FIFA 17 and COD have already been out on other systems, then not many people will buy these games as they will already have them and then we're immediately back to EA saying poor sales, no more games. They need to try and launch the system in tandem with one of the big yearly franchises and maybe even do a package to really drive it into living rooms. If they can launch it for let's say £300 with a FIFA or COD in the box then that should do good numbers -

I thought the idea behind Wii U and the gamepad was pure genius. Unfortunately, the portability aspect did not work (I can't take mine out of the room), if NX is as suggested a similar device that will work anywhere and Nintendo have resolved the 3rd party issue, then all the boxes are ticked for me.
