Nintendo Investors Meeting ( now in english )
Serebii replied to Hero-of-Time's topic in Nintendo Gaming
Not quite. They're using their third pillar to be sort of away from games. Based on the slides, they'll be shifting their non-core titles such as Wii Fit U, Brain Training etc. to this device. It's what people want. Some of you always complain that Nintendo keeps releasing non "core" crap all the time, and now they won't on the Wii U/3DS. It's part of Nintendo's expansion and allows for them to put more focus on the core on the Wii U/3DS and their successor. Overall, I'm happy. Nintendo have admitted the problem and plan to tackle it head on rather than just give up. Lots of GamePad features to come, DS Virtual Console is pretty cool (though I'm not that interested in it), glad to see they're going universal account too and the new pricing scheme is very intriguing...it's something that would truly benefit people like us -
"Iwata's wants to change the definition of platform, previously it's been devices based, 3ds and WiiU are not compatible and users separate" Nintendo Network ID to be used on 3DS, Wii U, FUTURE CONSOLE & HANDHELD and smartphones. Smartphones to have an On Demand service. Software won't be optimised for smart devices. Aiming for 2014. Intended as a catalyst to push people to Nintendo devices. Service is ID based, not device based, so content may carry between smartphone and console. Price lowers as you play. (Have to double check this. Feel like Gibson missed a bit - Will edit in after.) They're also going to use this model on the Wii U. They are also changing their attitude to licensing IPs and are seeking partners for further exposure. Shifting to emerging markets in 2015. Nintendo also know prices need to be lower. They are intent on improving the quality of life. Seems they're branching out to tech away from games again as well. They also want to find synergy between the games and quality of life stuff. These devices are running separately to the games consoles, and it appears that various software would be shifted to them Regarding Smartphone service app 3DS will be the focus this year for profit, but the Wii U is the overall focus.

Interestingly, from the supplementary release that just came, Nintendo isn't publishing Hyrule Warriors in Japan, Tecmo Koei is. Confirmed not to be putting their games on other platforms. They're still doing R&D on future platforms They want to create a new market, not just expand on others. He has admitted that the GamePad is the Wii U's weakness due to lack of recognition and people believing it's a Wii accessory. Price cut is not an option. Nintendo is going to focus on proving why the GamePad is necessary and it is the company's highest priority. NFC games to be revealed at E3. Also, they have apparently "overcome hurdles in making virtual consoles" - Specifically Nintendo DS on the Wii U Virtual Console. Gamepad profile to be increased, Mario Kart 8 to be released in May, fast start up of Gamepad designed so can play without TV quickly http://www.nintendo.co.jp/ir/library/events/140130/02.html (Video down here)

General Gaming Sales/Charts Discussion

Super Mario 3D World: 1.94 million New Super Mario Bros U: 1.74 million (in this fiscal year) New Super Luigi U: 1.51 million Wii Party U: 1.24 million Wind Waker HD: 1.15 million Shown at the investor meeting -
General consensus for it now by various professional translators is "Our child-targeting approach has been inadequate"
-
Indeed they don't. Maybe releasing some FPSs will attract them
-
Possible mistranslation. Translators are agreeing that it looks more like "Targeting children isn't enough"
-
Ambiguous translation. We don't know the true intent without the context but 「子どもたちへのアプローチが十分ではなかった」is more "Our approach towards children has been insufficient", it could also be translated as "Targeting children is not enough". Semantics, but the wording people give can shift the meaning considerably. This is the exact thing @Dcubed was just warning about :p
-
Haha cute. Like I need the English :p Relax, I'll post it asap
-
Just 2 and a quarter hours til it begins. They should outline their smartphone strategy in full here. I'm staying up for it (in case there's PokéNews) so I'll post what happens
-
Fine, I apologise.
-
Are you sure? Me pre-empting that crap stops people bringing it here
-
He said nothing about a remodel though :p
-
And of course, people are reading that as Iwata is not cutting the price, has lost it, needs to be fired etc.
-
No... it's an investor meeting.
-
Iwata apparently said that the theme of it is how to utilise smartphones. Just remember, this isn't a Direct. There won't be megatonnes.
-
ShopTo just dropped my Yoshi's New Island pre-order to £24.85. Bonza
-
Yeah, but that furthers my point. It'd have to be controlled and calculated, not just wily nily as you suggested.
-
It also risks damaging the brand. Look at Metroid Other M. Shipped out to a third party, just didn't sit right and didn't do well.
-
I'd be alright with all of it except them giving their franchises to third parties crazily. No...just...no. That said, the lower prices...that'd severely damage their bottom line. They should also not drop the GamePad. Shift it to optional? Sure. Drop it? Hell no. Make it so the Wii U IS better with the GamePad. Will encourage purchases.

Indeed. It's three years old next month. 3DS isn't doing bad. People just keep comparing it to the DS, which shot off like crazy when it tapped the then-untapped market of casuals, which now only play on their smartphones. Outside that, it's not that far behind the GBA -

The thing is, the smartphone market is reaching saturation point rapidly. Nintendo's handheld market has shrunk, nobody can deny that (though it's not as bad as people say). However, it's not going to go away. The 3DS proves that there is a market for it. Pokémon proves that there is a market for it. Pokémon on its own, on a console that has shifted 42 million units, has sold more than all but 3 games on the Xbox 360 and all but one game on the Playstation 3...consoles that have twice its install base. This clearly shows that there is a market for it. Nintendo just have to push it properly. -
They never said it was the problem nor that it deals with the issue. It's a gesture to show that they are resolved to turning the situation around, with the plans still to come. Why people, especially on GAF, are treating this as if the price cut is their entire plan I have no idea
