  1. Who said anything against that? :heh:

You sorta did when you argued about something being meaningless and something not being meaningless. When you get that nitpicky about definitions, you can argue that everything is meaningless. I disagree with you about meaning being something definitive.

  2. The right to bare arms, in the most literal sense, meaning guns, also, they background check you when you purchase a gun (they also give them away for free when you go and open up certain bank accounts, hmm, yes). If you've had a crime committed, you can't purchase a couple of the more powerful guns. Instead, you can buy lesser guns that still kill >.>

... is the right to go topless. The right to bear arms, on the other hand ...

Shame on you for not noticing that, LukeLee. :nono: :p

About the Halo Kid, I feel truly sorry for him. Though I can't help but wonder how the hell you manage to shoot yourself in the head with a rifle.

  3. Art ... no one seems to agree on what it is. So I'll leave it at that.

About things being pointless or meaningless, isn't being a nerd meaningless? Hell, isn't being alive meaningless? Couldn't it be argued that life in general is meaningless? What is the meaning of life, anyway?

I don't know what the meaning of life is. But I know that I want to make my life as pleasure-filled an experience as possible. Being a nerd gives me pleasure. My interest in swords give me pleasure. A beautiful girl is pleasure for my eyes. A girl I love regardless of looks is pleasure for my soul.

EDIT: Gah, forgot the main topic! Damn, sorry. Beautiful swords, Chris. I'm very jealous. :p

  4. "That's gotta be the best safe sex message ever: Use a condom or become Republican!"

    ROFLMAO!!!

But maybe VMA isn't the best place for that kind of jokes? I dunno.

And just for the record, Fresh, you gotta respect personal opinions. While I in no way agree with sex before marriage being a bad thing, I wouldn't say it's immature. And while boy bands in general can seem to be (and sometimes are) arrogant, I think that statement is a little prejudiced. Jonas Brothers doesn't seem arrogant to me.

  5. This seems to have been forgotten again, left to sit discarded midway down the list of threads for months till someone eventually revives it. Maybe we should have a rule that if the winner doesn't post a picture within within a couple of days a runner-up should be picked to post a new picture

It's a problem when people just edit the mention of a winner into a post, because the post doesn't appear as new. I've been online the past three days, but until you posted, nothing new seemed to have happened in this thread.

Anyway, I'll go find a picture now.

Why doesn't my post appear? Never mind. It's there now.

  6. If tiers are for queers why do you get so worked up about them?? Tiers are to determine what characters are better against others, e.g. a low tier can easily be a counter for a top tier, but the char is low tier because he doesn't fare well against many others except for the one in particular...

I hope you now understand what ties are all about...

I understand what tiers are all about, I just don't like them. I refer to TysOn's post above me.

  7. I do wonder what people would say if they were given an Ottawa Board of Education...

Nah, when a British person thinks of the term "OBE", the one I meant will always spring to mind.

I'd love for someone to give me an out-of-body experience. I've always wanted to see what that was like. :p

  8. Most Inappropiate Thing To Say Whilst Being Given An OBE.

(I'm gonna assume you mean the Order of the British Empire. There are many things with the acronym OBE! By the way, thank the heavens this thread has been revived!)

    "Does that come with waffles?"

  9. Why's it called a femtosecond? Because that's about how long a woman can stay quiet for.

You can actually thank us Danes for the prefixes femto and atto. Those two numbers are normally written 10^15 and 10^18 respectively. 15 and 18 are called "femten" and "atten" in Danish, thus the prefixes.

  10. What? On the contrary, mon ami.

Its much better to live in a cave, look what technology gave us, sure, it gave us the internet, but it also gave us the nuclear bomb, hydrogen bomb, nerve gases.

The man curiosity is what makes him a man, and also what will kill the man, if it isn't in 2000, don't worry, it will be some time, i can guarantee that.

That's one of the great questions, isn't it? We could live in happy oblivion, but we'd have to think about how happy we'd be. Life would be tough. Instead of worrying about getting too fat, we'd have worry about even getting any fat on our bodies. But again, we'd never realise if we were happy or not, as we'd be too primitive to be able to ponder that kind of thing. And if you can't ponder about life, do you truly live? And this is where it gets interesting, for what is living (don't bother about the PS3 puns)?

I won't go into that mind boggler. I like to ponder things, but you gotta get back to real life once in a while and say: "This is how life is - right now, right here. No matter if there's a God or not, no matter if the Earth is destroyed by a colossal blak hole in 2012, I gotta live in the present. I gotta live now. Carpe diem.

  11. Oh shh. Shorty would have done it if he noticed.

"It's like when I correct someone's grammar; I'm not doing it to be popular." - Frasier Crane

To be honest, it was starting to annoy me, too. I'm a grammar whore. :p

  12. i thought it was the center of the galexy, and it was called a super massive black hole

also, black holes are scary, but i have no fear of one destroying the world, a bit like godzilla. scary, but we neednt worry.

Agreed, a black hole can't be the center of the Solar System. 'Cause ... you know ... the Sun is.

  13. Wikipedia reference-linkIronyis a literary or rhetorical device, in which there is an incongruity or discordance between what a speaker / writer /actor says or does, and what he or she means or what is generally understood.

    [...]

There is some argument about what is or is not ironic, but all the different senses of irony revolve around the perceived notion of an incongruity between what is said and what is meant; or between an understanding of reality, or an expectation of a reality, and what actually happens.

The irony in this case is that while she just wrote a song entitled "The Best You Never Had", navarre actually feels she's the best [girlfriend] he never had (know how you feel by the way, mate, though not about her). The lyrics weren't directed at him, possibly not at anyone in particular, so the irony is in the fact that there actually is someone with whom the lyrics match.

I know, it's not the best example of irony, but it's there.

  14. For individual people, you are right. Everyone has their own style.

The Tiers are a general list of characters that for professionals indicate which characters enable their players to perform better than other characters.

I suppose it's like saying 'Which swimsuit designs and fabrics are the best in competition?' Some will wear all-over sharkskin emulated fabrics, some will wear minimal lycra fabrics. That's not to say that those wearing the sharkskin fabrics will always beat those wearing lycra fabrics, but it does mean that the odds are in their favour.

At least, this is how I understand the meaning behind Tiers and I realise that was a crap analogy.

I just don't feel right about that line of thought. How can you decide which character is better? Agreed, some characters are obviously flawed (Pichu, anyone?), but when the characters are balanced, I think most tier lists will be very subjective.
