  1. What I mean is that it's complete counter-balancing. On the one hand he proposes veganism, and on the other buying/receiving a car. I know that his car is far more damaging to the environment than his small token gesture of not eating meat. Therefore, he's actually more polluting than me. Secondly, there's countless ways you can help the environment without sacrificing your own well-being. And yes, vegans commonly suffer nutritional deficiencies such as vitamin B12, iron and calcium deficiencies. Yes, you could make a very good diet plan and take supplements but it's still no secret that many vegans suffer from such deficiences. Locally source your food and your impact on the environment is probably minimal; far better than limiting your choice of food (surely one of the nicer things in life) and potentially risking your wellbeing. With regards to animal ethics; he must have eaten enough animals in his lifetime to surely be burdened with animal sacrifice. Not saying you can't make a difference, but it's kind of like well and truly having your 5,000 cakes and eating them.
  2. I think it's probably general confusion/ignorance since you often hear meat and fish referred to separately. Although fish is still, most definitely, meat. I have to say, living life like this is pointless. Worrying that things you eat may be environmentally unfriendly in their rearing is just a step too far. I'm not trying to be offensive, but I honestly don't see your individual choice to stop eating meat to have any effect on the environment. You could easily reduce your environmental damage by not buying a car at all, or buying a bike/electric bike. I used to have a girlfriend who was the most egotistical, proud arse in the world about being friendly to animals/the environment by being vegan. Little did she know (through ignorance and taking vegan websites as gospel scientific truth) that the constant medical drugs she took for various conditions had each involved no doubt thousands to millions of animals in testing. And that's not animals that were free range reared (should you choose to buy that) and endured a moment of pain upon death - these are animals that suffered for weeks, months or years. At the end of the day, she chose the importance of sustaining her wellbeing over animal life. She'd often say that the testing of these drugs was in the past and therefore made no difference, yet they constantly improve the drugs and continue to test them on animals. Anyway, bit off topic there. My point is that everyone is slowly destroying the environment, and it is utterly inevitable. It's why I'm not particularly concerned (prolonging the inevitable merely sets up impending doom for generations slightly further down the line). It's noble to reduce damage to the environment since more people will ultimately have a life, but there are better, more meaningful ways. Selecting against food, your source of nutrients and good for your wellbeing, seems a bit wrong to me. Cutting out a car, maybe buying your meat locally too. Better options. Plus, because bad experience makes me dislike veganism. For every animal dynastygal chose not to eat, I ate three.
  3. The pawn could move up between turns where the queen takes it. What I meant is that you need the first solution you suggested as well as the second solution for a proper, 'guaranteed' solution to win the game. The first solution is only dependent on one of two outcomes, after all. Jay, ninjas play tricks. :p
  4. The pawn can just take the knight rather than the king move. There's 2 methods depending on whether the king moves. Edit: jayseven already said that, haha. In this situation, I would move the queen diagonally so it was above the king, then use the bishop to take the pawn that took the knight. Checkmate.

  11. Apparently I will get £4500 straight away (one quarter of the yearly pay). So hopefully it shouldn't be too bad.
  12. Yeah, an appartment for when we start our PhDs in September. Luckily it comes with a fitted oven/grill as well as washer/drier, fridge/freezer etc. I'll definitely put some pics up when we move in. Which isn't long now...15th September I think. Wahey.

I'll soon be spending loads. :/ To buy, between me and my girlfriend: Sofa (we're edging towards leather) Dining table + chairs Bed + mattress (can really only be a king with a comfort mattress, it's what I'm used to at home) Computer desk + chair TV Stand Would have to buy an iron, ironing board and kettle but she's already bought those. Luckily we have fitted wardrobes so we won't need to buy one.

  15. To be fair it's about £8 and guarantees you the final release. Not sure how it would work online if you got a copy elsewhere.

  17. On the paid version you can reduce the graphics considerably. Pretty sure you could get it running.
  18. Oh, I'm quite sure it'll run on most computers. The download is only a few MB in size, and the graphics are reasonably basic.
  19. Scratch that, I gave it another chance and I'm having fun. It takes a bit of getting used to but I can see the enjoyment factor of being able to create your own world and whatnot. I bought the alpha version, and I'm making some shit. Need some coal since it's always impossible to see when dark and I want to make torches!
  20. I had a quick go and I'm not sure what to think. Seems like you might need to invest a fair bit of time just to make something that looks decent.
