PAL Twilight Princess definitely runs in 480p progressive scan, no question about it. Some people may find it hard to tell the difference, but progressive does exactly what it's meant to - polish things up a bit, not provide an extensively clarified display by any means. My TV locks to 480p when the input is such, and Jordan's picture is proof - I have a Samsung TV as well. Call of Duty actually doesn't run in prog scan or 60Hz while we're on this note, and I know this because my Wii is set to EDTV 480p from the menu then when my friend brought his copy of COD round it set itself back to a woeful 576i/50Hz and the difference was very noticeable.

Zelda on 40" HDTV with Official Component Cables
KingOfHyrule replied to Kazzahdrane's topic in Nintendo Gaming
42" Samsung RP HDTV -- the difference between running Wii in 576i or 480i then running in 480p is actually quite remarkable. Colours are richer and everything is smoother and text is sharper. I think maybe people are expecting component to make Wii look similar to Xbox360, when really all component 480p is and always was, is the best output you can get for the console. Compared to the 360's 720p mode, of course Wii will look wank - but it's not a magic cable or anything I'm afraid! Spot on, well put. Resolution is paramount to how good visuals look. -
I'm over the lack of ground breaking HD visuals - I'm not over the fact that most Wii games look like first generation GameCube games - something isn't quite right that in order to introduce a new controller, graphics have to take a back seat. Why didn't they just release the Wii controller for GameCube after all in that case? Wii is a more powerful machine, it's just confusing that games look balls on it.

I got a different feeling with the N64 and GameCube when I first got it - I had GameCube on the PAL launch and it all looked like a huge jump up from the N64 and it felt like I was playing something brand new, and that great things would follow. With Wii it feels like I'm playing a GameCube with a remote control, it just doesn't have the same punch in my opinion. I understand it's only out a month, and pointing with the controller is cool, I like it, but I'm not so convinced yet that it'll hold strong, doubled with visuals on a par with GameCube, and deliver what we all wanted. But maybe it will eventually?

If you're prepared for a lengthy intro to a potential raging discussion about the Wii, read on! I know gaming is supposed to be fun, but Christ knows it's turned into an art that people yap and cheer about constantly over the the last decade or so, so I thought I'd talk about it. I've been having a few unorthodox thoughts about the Wii lately and thought I'd share them to see what the forum thinks. Does anyone else find it...strange? I finished Zelda a week ago and I haven't really wanted to turn the console on much at all; Wii Sports is fun for 25 minutes, Red Steel is a pain to play and the visuals bring me back to early GameCube days - what's going on? Why does Zelda, effectively a GameCube title itself, look better than most launch titles for a supposedly new and more powerful console? Dare I say it, I even think The Wind Waker felt more "Zelda" than Twilight Princess in some ways - coming from a hardened, longterm Zelda nut! I can't help but feel that, yes, Nintendo have taken all the right turns, but taken it a few miles too far and sacrificed some of their old standards with this new console. I'm worrying the Wii will end up the gimmicky, weak machine everyone assumed it would turn out to be. Personally I think if Zelda wasn't on the launch list, the Wii would be fucked by now even. Nintendo are smart, though. It's veering really far away from traditional gaming, and that's ok, they said they'd do it anyway; but it's slightly removing some enjoyment from playing the old way and the way that worked - for me personally anyway. I want Nintendo to prove me wrong and make some great games in the Wii's lifetime - not just Mario, Zelda and Metroid, again and again and again. Then Super Smash Bros for when your mates come round. As much as they're great games, they can't remain as powerful as always. Zelda showed signs of ageing without a doubt this time, like Nintendo had genuinely run out of ideas in some parts and that Zelda will become staler and staler as the years go on. A real shame should it happen! Anyone else agree or disagree?

It was £19.99 in my local GAME. Honestly I doubt there is any difference whatsoever in both cables, the GAME cable has given me clean crisp 480p and there's no muddiness. The only gripe I have is that the audio leads aren't long enough to reach my surround sound amp, which means either having to opt for the official cable anyway or buying extensions and probably suffer sound quality loss. Grr. But yes, I'll eat my hat and my gloves if you aren't pleased with the GAMEware cable Stefkov!
-
Time to eat my hat, I think the GAMEware component cable that I have is fantastic, there is no difference at all between it and the official cable I had for the GameCube; tried Metroid Prime 2: Echoes on the Wii last night and it looked every bit as good as it did with the official cable on GameCube. And of course, Wii games look great on my TV now in 480p! Thanks GAME - I'd recommend their cable completely.

Official component cables vs madcatz
KingOfHyrule replied to triforce_keeper's topic in Nintendo Gaming
Shit sorry to hear that man, I know that feeling. I remember buying a GAME RGB cable for the GameCube and it was so pishpoor you wouldn't believe it, all the colours were ridiculously luminated and bleedy, but then I decided to buy the official RGB and it was my favourite piece of kit for a long time (until I went HD ), really brought out the best of 480i standard def! So I'd still recommend you take a look at the official component cable for Wii, if you can't tell the difference between composite and your unofficial cable then it's probably a pish cable. Did you switch to 480p display mode on the settings by the way? -
Excellent - just bought one myself, won't be getting my Wii til Christmas morning but glad to hear you're pleased with GAME's cable, everything runs ok in 480p yeah?

Official component cables vs madcatz
KingOfHyrule replied to triforce_keeper's topic in Nintendo Gaming
Although my order for the official cable is still live, just decided to bite the bullet and got myself a GAME component cable - anyone else have one/any impressions for me? Thanks! -
Jesus Christ, this thread has saddened me even more I want a component cable for Christmas too.

As much as I hate the Euro, it means we in the north of Ireland would be able to use the same currency as the rest of the country again there'd be a mix of coinage with Irish harps and Lizzy's head up here. Although the British pound is fantastic, I do have to say. So meh.

Official component cables vs madcatz
KingOfHyrule replied to triforce_keeper's topic in Nintendo Gaming
I was in GAME today and was very close to picking up one of their component cables, decided against it. The official cables will most likely be released a short time after Christmas so it's an extra treat to look forward to when you get rid of the composites! -

KingOfHyrule replied to Fierce_LiNk's topic in Nintendo Gaming
The official ones aren't even on sale in Europe yet I believe, online shops have been puttiing their release date back and back, I probably won't get mine until the New Year! I should have ordered a Japanese one too in hindsight. -

Yeah I suppose going from watching HD-DVDs or even the Xbox360 in 720p to a console in 480p is bound to look much worse! Looks great from the pic though. I'm dreading having to hook mine up to my 42" HDRPTV on Christmas morning with composite, not looking forward to that lol -

That is one bangin' TV you have there - is that with the component cable or composite? -
Argh, I rang GAME Online and they said it's most likely that they won't be delivered for Christmas - that's that out the windy. It'll probably be after the New Year.
-
I want one.
-
Hahahaha I remember this thread from last year, fucking superb job. Here's my tree this year then.
-
Reminds me of that time someone sold a PS2 box on the bay lol completely legal, that's the best bit!
-
My God, shit to be whoever fell for this. It somewhat becomes unfunny though if it turned out to be a desperate mother or someone who didn't really understand eBay but wanted to please their son or daughter for Christmas...otherwise, shit to be you mate! Clicky
-
Ah but are they as good as the official job? That's what I'd like to know!
-
Fuckers, bastards, arseholes!! GAME, after me putting all my trust in their 15 Dec component release, have told me it's now 22 Dec Oh well.
-
You'd be better posting this stuff in the video sticky I think!
-
That's quite strange, is there not audio red and white sockets beside the component sockets? Plugging them into the composite block means your audio and video would be on different channels on the TV - double check that there could be designated sockets for audio along with component video.
