The bear was the supercomputer AI "Teddy" Roosevelt, basically responsible for the United States (of Thracia) going to war with Persia, as the AI seized the opportunity and preyed on the president's anxieties while using him as a spearhead.

    Gesicht.

      Dun dun dunnnnnnn (Hide contents)

Worth remembering that this is essentially an adaptation/retelling of an Astro Boy arc.

While I certainly found much more enjoyment spending time with Gesicht through the course of the show, in terms of story, it makes complete sense that he, as a detective, has fulfilled his role in the story once he has figured out the plot – Atom took over at the end for when things got more nonsensical, action-heavy, and more like a show for kids (because, well, Astro Boy).

Curious if you've watched Monster? I really enjoyed the anime adaptation of Pluto, but I really feel like Monster is where Urasawa's character writing and story planning gets to be shown off best, without the constraints of paying respect and homage to another great's work and with a comparatively much longer time to spend with it's characters. It's a very slow burn, mind you!

Your bear thing in spoiler tag didn't seem to translate into the quote above... this system is most temperamental... but was any of that ever explained/hinted? I only recall constant mention of the survey team, which seemed to do anything but.

I've never watched Astro Boy, but the resemblance was not lost on me, however I didn't think it was related.

    Spoiler

I would initially disagree that because the case had been revealed, Gesicht was surplus to the plot. Especially since he's been shown to kick ass and has a nice gun arm, it would've been nice to see him slap on some cuffs and bake 'em away toys... Whereas Atom just chatted whimsical bollocks (until he got a personality makeover and became Cell Saga SSJ2 Gohan).

Even pacifist Epsilon had more action going for him, but they made him pussy out at the last minute.

But with your Astro Boy thing, it makes more sense they'd get everyone else out of the way so their poster boy can take credit.

I haven't watched Monster, looking at the Wikipedia it says it's 72 episodes, so probably never will :p

I've been slipping with the anime, I finally finished second season of Goblin Slayer, slowly working through latest Dr Stone. I did start My Daemon, but CGI anime always seems to stutter, which I find jarring and really confusing how this happens, I would expect it to be really smooth.

I watched Pluto, having seen Julius give it a recommendation (he said it was superb, which i think counts)

It WAS good. Although the ending was a bit *hand-wavey* and silly. All the same, it was an engaging story with some interesting themes.

I didn't like how Pluto defeated Bora using some Deus Ex Machina 'peltier effect' rubbish. He somehow summoned his broken limbs back and rejoined them (using robot magic?) and then negated the anti-proton bomb and the heat of molten lava using the Peltier effect?! Made no sense and none of which had been alluded to previously.

I finally finished it yesterday, it certainly went up its own arse towards the end, complete with some inner-psychological-waffle that Evangelion made oh-so popular. It all started to get a bit muddled with who was/wasn't a robot and why, but from what I gathered after all the back and forth, was some foreign dude was mad about a war and decided to go on an assassination campaign before destroying the world with a foetus bomb.

I have no idea why they decided to swap out Gesicht for Atom as our hero of the hour. He was just annoying throughout whereas Gesicht was interesting and the investigation angle was compelling.

    And what was the bear?!

I'd say it looks like she's brought some preconceptions to the table with her, yeah. Anthony doesn't seem like a bad spud at all. Hope they stop being so naive and catch on to the big ginge that's positioned himself as head of the group and gang leader of the traitors.

Both me and the missus was feeling the vibe, plus a colleague at work and I did spy a few on Twitter. It seems her whole logic is based on "he was standing somewhere first, I wanted to stand there but he wouldn't let me. That's very traitor-esque behaviour". This being done before the Traitors were even selected. The other lass from the platform had more logic to her.

Then I don't get why they go after Ash, saying she was going around talking to people and asking who they were thinking of, which is the tactic of 100% of people there, including the ones who all discussed voting for her. You have just a feeling? That's fine, run with that, just don't use identical behaviour to everyone else as an excuse.

I was tempted to go for the Mario bag, as I don't really play the Kirby games (can't think of one I've invested more than 10 minutes in), but this looks much cuter/less garish than bright yellow.

four hours...this is going in the watch later pile...

The Hbomberguy one can be watched in person chapters, at least for the first half. The second half and all their chapters are all Somerton twattery.

Alternatively for the Maddox fans in the house, he's uploading his chapters individually over a month or two (some already out) so you can catalogue your bite size Armenian action, apparently with additional content, but sources have said there isn't any.

I wonder how the careers of other YouTubers who defended him will be hit? There were a few who stood by him when it all kicked off.

I've not been following this drama, but I'm willing to bet a selection of "I wasn't aware of X happening, otherwise I wouldn't have defended things", all videos starting with:

" *sigh* I didn't think I would have to make this video..."

Me looking at this as someone that doesn't follow YouTubers:

    what-the-fuck-is-happening-right-now-les

I fell down some rabbit hole a couple of weeks ago at work for something to have on whilst messing with my spreadsheets. I know zero of the characters involved and makes me chuckle internally when they say "I'm sure you know who X is already..." as if we all have time to follow all these people.

Not exactly plagiarism, but internet relic Maddox recently did a almost 3 hour magnum opus about his time spent with Dick Masterson and the fall of his career, 5 years in the making as he hasn't spoken a word about this since then. I used to listen to original Biggest Problem before it died and listened to the Dick Show since then, and I know there are many things incorrect in this video.

I've tried making this link play at the beginning, but whatever I try to do with the URL it keeps putting it at this timestamp

I considered putting this in the Good Stuff Thread, because it's clearly awesome in the effort that has gone into this earth shattering evidence gathering that especially James Somerton stuff at the end. The hutzpah on some of these people who speak with such confidence whilst being fully away they have stolen material from many a place.

There was a limpdick apology which was billed as not a sob story, after a couple of minutes of saying how he nearly killed himself, which I hazard a guess not many people really believed. then proceeded to blame others. I only made it halfway through before tapping out, because it was clear he wasn't sorry for what he did, just that he actually got caught this time and couldn't use his usual defence.

    Spoiler

Comment on channel following deletion after video didn't get the sympathy he was after:

Earlier tonight I uploaded a video apologizing for what I've done but it's become clear, after hearing from several people, that I am not in a healthy frame of mind to be posting anything online. I only returned home from the hospital yesterday so I should have never filmed it. I have deleted the video, but I'm sure it has been downloaded and will be shared by others online. I promise to apologize properly and in detail when I'm more mentally stable. Until then please know that I AM sorry.

  9. Last year for any retrospective: EEVIL's New Year Resolution Thread: 2023 edition - General Chit Chat - N-Europe Forums

    For myself:

Unleash a YouTube channel - I'm coming along with the saxamaphone and would like to bring that magic to the masses, either solo or collaborating with others/their solo work. I know I'm not fully ready yet, I do need to practice more before I start uploading anything, but I've got a Channel set up, Twitter account made and email address ready for when it happens. I'm hoping to have at least a couple of videos up by the end of the year.

Carry on with ze German - This is probably a rolling one, I'm hoping to hit Oktoberfest again this year and would like to be able to have a bit more conversation in German, but they all know English better and it just feels rude to ask them to indulge me whilst I stammer over words for my benefit.

More gaming with all these models I paint - splashing out money on plastic and paints is all well and good, but it would be even nicer to get a bit more use out of them.

Sort out the trees in the garden - I've already decimated 3/4 of them, the last quarter I've had to pay to get lopped, come the better weather months I'll strip them bare and all will be well

I completed the demo yesterday, and it feels surreal that this neat little series is getting a surprisingly decent budget for this remake. Full 3D movement in two games that never had them, with voice acting and actual animation. It's all very neat!

But that second puzzle... I'm the kind of guy who always thinks motion controls are great. But that was awful! Those controls were absolute crud. I hope that's just a weird outlier...

That was horrendous, key wouldn't move when you're looking at it, so you're resigned to holding the thing out and just hope tipping it makes stuff happen.

Made it to the end of the demo though, I daresay it's because it was early days, but does it get a bit more open? It felt quite constrictive in just pushing you along a linear path to one puzzle after the other.

    And always said "-'s nuts"

I want to get my brother an eshop game for his birthday - is there anywhere that sells actual game codes?

Maybe not a code for a game, which I've seen sparingly. But you can get eShop vouchers from supermarkets

  12. Done about 10 minutes (felt longer) and just landed on the island. I get that it's one of those demos where you can carry over to a new game if you make the purchase, but I don't think this type of game is right for a demo. It's piling on the story so thick, I'm zoning out. I doon't caaaarree... I just wanna do some puzzles at the moment! I'll consider investing in your twisty-turny plot later.

      The Giggle Spoilers (Hide contents)

The episode itself I enjoyed for the most part. Neil Patrick Harris was excellent as always and the Toy Maker was a lot of fun. His ending was a bit anticlimactic though with a pretty basic throw and fumble in their dumb ball game. It kind of felt like this needed to be a two parter to really give the threat a bit more, everything was just wrapped up a bit quickly. Makes last week's episode feel even more of a waste to me.

I'm hoping they're going to use not showing the ball fall as a technicality to bring him back, as when the ball clipped his hand, you didn't see it hit the ground in glorious slow motion with an exaggerated bang noise - we there wasn't a rule about one chance to catch evidenced by Tennant's laying down juggling act - and even though they were on British Avenger's Tower, I expected Toymaker to dive off the tower and catch it before it hit the ground... but he didn't... he just folded, metaphorically and then literally.

You've got a queer showrunner and a queer lead in what has long been considered a queer allegory, I don't see that changing anytime soon.

As I've no intention of watching does anyone want to explain to me how David Tennant came back? Curious how they explained that one, but clearly not enough to watch.

I don't think it was properly explained, other than "the universe did it because of destiny bringing us together again"
