  1. Err... Would you buy a bowling game? I mean, at full price, where that's the only sport included? I wouldn't. Dito for competitive swimming, that's included in basically game based on the Olympics. And the fact stands: a Pingpong set costs little over twice as much as that game does. And Pingpong tables dont take much place at all, since they're foldable!
  2. If I recall correctly, Nintendo made for some quarter in 2004 or something, which apparently is the only quarter since the beginning of the 90's that they made a loss.
  3. Well actually in an inteview on gametrailers the developers promised an editor where you quite simply import mp3's and use an editor to put out the... thingys:P I'm not sure, but I think you were supposed to upload your songs to an online gallery were other users, free of charge, will be able to download it...
  4. How can the Wii version be one of the best? I mean, you can't even download or create your own songs, which form my point of view is the most important improvement over the first game (GH2 had it for 360). And about those other games... I won't buy Mario & Sonic, since I guess it's gonna be some kind of button masher (or Wiimote epileptic spasmathon, allthough that's a term I just came up with), and I'm just generally not interrested in sportsgames. Raving Rabids 2... I'm tired of these minigame collections. Of coursem the original was the most humorous, and one of the best. Generally I think you're over impressed with these games. Most of the ones you've listed won't have a too long lasting appeal. Of course, several of those will most probably be awsome (Zack & Wiki, Umbrella Chronicles, Nights, Tomb Raider are certain bets).
  5. Isn't Sega still some sort of semi-owner ish thing of Bizarre? As far as I know, PGR got its name because it was planned to change the name before release (Hence the "project" part). But who knows, you may be right...
  6. D'oh! You're right, forgot about those... But what the heck is NIM? Doesent even show up on Wiki, apart from some nuclear calculating thingy... But my statement remains, basing an entire game off pingpong is just lame. Rockstar should make a Wii sports-ish thing, where Table Tennis is one of the sports.
  7. Or pilotwings or waverace or 1080, or maybe some really old forgatten gem...
  8. Over the years THQ have released a lot of great games. The GT Advance games, Concers Bad Fur Day, Company of Heroes, and loads of other stuff...
  9. I've played them both, and I can see lots of similarities. Both take you offroad with cars, and in both you keep jumping off absurd jumps, and you have a little thing called boost which makes your vehicle explode if you overdoo it. Motorstorm is tecnically more advanced, and it has online, sure. However, the graphics are overrated, as many of the rocks in the surroundings still are blocky, something that you as a matter of fact never notice in ET. The physics are TERRIBLE om MS. Sometimes the trucks run right over huge friggin rocks, sometimes the vehicle "crashes" into invisible friggin objects. For such an expensive console, the game loads for ages. It takes a minute to load each car in the vehicle selection menu. Nearly all game development students are taking a crack at that game, since it's so full of flaws. I mean, it doesent even support two player splitscreen. MS is a really expensive techdemo, while ET is an extremely fun game.
  10. *Checks The Ultimate History of Video Games, chapter 3* Actually I'm right. The first game was called Computer Space, and was released in 1971, although it didn't do very well, they didn't even sell all of the 1500 machines they had manufactured. The first videogame EVER was SpaceWar, which was made on a supercomputer called PDP-1 at MIT. That was finished in 1962, and Computer Space was pretty much the same game as SpaceWar. In the late 70's there was a game released called Space Wars, to cash in on the Star Wars movie.
  11. YOURE NOT LISTENING TO WHAT IM SAYING! I'm saying that PS2 games are OK, as long as the PS2 versions are OK in the first place. I mean, Black and Enthusia have BOTH been released for the PS2, and they still look loads better than most Wii games. Am I stupid for expecting shooters from a Nintendo console? Errr... Ever heard of the Nintendo 64 (one genration older than the Gamecube), which had a buckload of great shooters (Goldeneye, Perfect Dark, the Turok games), plus a whole bunch of exclusive, but mediocre ones (armorines, diakatana). The Wii has a controller which makes the console the ultimate machine for shooters. Realistic racers have allways been lacking on Nintendo consoles (allthough developers at least TRIED on the N64 with the likes of GT64, Top Gear Rally and some other game I don't remember). Since the Wii has been the best selling console since its release, and Nintendo want to reach out to all audiences, it's not so strange to expect games in these genres. You're saying that I should buy one of the other consoles, then I tell you the following: NO WAY, I've felt what an FPS plays like with the Wiimote, going back to dual analogue sticks is like going from Microsoft Word to carving text into rocks with another rock. The same goes for racers, NFS Carbon is the first racer where I don't run in to stuff all the time, basically the controller has changed the way I play those genres.
  12. Yeah, it was one screen. But the developers would have to make an EXTREME overhaul of the visuals to even make the game look acceptable, and the thing is that, apart from eternity projects like Duke Nukem Forever and Halo(which was shown six years before release as an RTS, then as a 3rd person shooter), no game ever goes through such an extreme overhaul. I mean, if the games visuals, and physics (the front end of a car pointing skywards... thats SO N64) are so extremely far from completion, why bother to release that single screenshot? The poster released made a lot of people interrested, but as soon as the screens appeared, the game instantly became forgotten. About Ferrari, no, graphics aren't everything, I'm just saying that nearly everything released about the game is a bunchi of PS3 screens, making it nearly impossible to judge what the hec it is. I mean, it could be a completelly different game, or it could look like CRAP. Making games for the Wii with sub-Dreamcast graphics shouldn't be tollerated. Since the Wii is the best selling format ATM, I'm expecting to get EVERYTHING, apart from übergraphics (err... actually I'm expecting that too, TP, MP3 and RE4 are probably the best looking games released for any format yet. Screw polynumbers, it's what my eyes see that matters).
  13. The DC is one of the best consoles ever. I love both Shenmue games, then I've spent loads of time with Sega GT, and Dead or Alive's quite fun as well... I thought about buying one of the DC flightsims, there were quite a lot for it. But it's 2007, so I'm buying Heatseeker for the Wii instead. The sadest news about the Dreamcast, second to the actual discontinuation of the system, was that Propeller Arena got canned. So damn sad, since it looked ace. Anyone know why it wasn't moved to another system after the 9/11 craze went over? BTW, currently I'm polishing an analysis of why Shenmue failed financially, so I've been carrying arround on a bag with my old DC, asking people to play so that they can answer a questionnaire...
  14. I'm increasingly hopeful about this one. First I thought it would be ANOTHER RE Survivor game, but this seems allright. That Wesker is playable is friggin AWSOME. He and Leon are the coolest in the series... followed by Ada. A remake of RE2 with the RE4 combat system would kick serious ARSE!
  15. It seems like I've used the wrong set of words here... I don't expect games that push the Wii graphically like RE4 did on the Cube, or exclusive übergreat mega grrr games in every genre. What I'm expecting is developers to show that they're TRYING. I mean, there's a centilion different developers out there, why can't at least ONE announce a "realistic" racer, that actually has graphics that look like a Gamecube game? I was getting my hopes up for Crusin' Wii, but as it turns out it's so ugly it would look bad on Dreamcast, I'm actually quite sure that an N64 could play it with an expansionpack! Sure, Ferrari you say, but what has been announced about the game, apart from what the PS3 version will look like? I mean, it's not so hard, take Enthusia for the PS2, for example, and just port the damn thing, fix framerate issues, throw in one or two extra cars and one extra cup, and voilá, you have the best looking racer on the Wii, that could be called exclusive. Konami bag in milions, another segment is no longer empty on the Wii, everybody's happy! And about the wheel... I mean, third party peripheral makers have been making wheels for every single console out there... There was even a joystick released for the Gamecube, at a time when Rogue Squadron was the only flightgame for the format.
  16. Actually, no. It's blasting each others to smitherens in spaceships. The only reason that the first successful videogame was about pingpong was the technical limitations and legal issues. The creators were inspired by tennis, but since there allready was a company that had made a game based on tennis, they had to rename it before release. But since the gameplay was too similar, they basically got sued anyways. I mean, that game didn't contain a single processor or anything of the like. It was made out of free transistors and stuff. I study games development, so I know. Plus, that it was a great game concept in the mid-70's doesent mean it's a great concept today. It's literally been 30 years.
  17. Errr... Have I missed something? Were you able to controll MP like a regular FPS? At least the default controls were more Zelda-ish, where you only were able to strafe if you used the lockon button. Anyways, I bought the first Prime game, couldn't find one of those runes or whatever they were, then I ran out of space on my memorycard, so I deleted the file, started over, but now I'm just too boored. According to Gametrailers, it's got better controlls, more action and less backtracking.
  18. The probability to start working at the company of your dreams is really, really low. There's a bigger chance that the second company you work at is the company of your dreams. And if it IS the company of your dreams, they won't try to force you to take part in a project you rescent.
  19. Excitetruck beats the crap out of Motorstorm, that's a fact, but ET isn't the kind of racer I'm looking for. I'm looking for something along the lines of PGR (since Bizarre are free from MS now, we might get MSR 2 as a sort of equivelant). MoH:H2 hasn't been released yet, and knowing that game series, I've got big difficulties to see how it could possibly beat CoD3. Yeah, online multiplayer, really great. How about good contols, and an interresting singleplayer campaign, and at least a slight bit of realism? Of course, you can't EXPECT there to be a good game in this or that genre, especially not the Wii, as a lot of people were sceptical about it to start off with, but now we can so clearly see that developers are turning over to the Wii, announcing this game and that game. Where the heck are the racer and shooter announcements? I mean, for all of the last generation we were craving a GTA-ish game. All we got were the True Crime games... And for the Wii? Godfather, Driver, Scarface, and maybe even some game I've forgotten, all within the firts year of the console. I mean, why aren't developers equally eager to port for example Black for the Wii: Preferrably I'd see some really good first or second party games exclusivelly for the console in those genres, but knowing Nintendo that'll be unlikelly. We can hope that now that the MP trilogy is finished, Retro Studios will do something else based on the same engine...
  20. Yeah, I've played pretty much every "good" game out on any console, since we get access to them at AGES (Academic Gaming Enviroment at the university of Skövde). That game is WAY overrated, like every single PS3 game released to date, and like many of the X360 games. I mean, perhaps it's because I'm from sweden, where half of all boys get table tennis sets when their kids. I mean, table tennis? Next Rockstar'll probably release table hockey (which half of all swedish kids also get before they reach third grade): Allthoug bullettime isn't very fresh now, Max Payne 2 has a great story, spot on contolls, its fun, and it's an actual GAME. If I'll get a sportsgame (atless it's a really twisted extremesportgame) assigned to me during my carreer, I'll first ask for a transfer to another project, and if I'll get denied that I'll either A) quit, or B) kill my way up to the truth of who the fuck decided to make that lame decision.
  21. After one year, there should be AT LEAST one wheel for the console, and both good and exclusive shooters and racers should be announced. I mean, even Dreamcast had that!
  22. I've owned a Wii from pretty close to the launch last year, but so far I've not seen anything of what I envisioned to be out by now. I mean, where the hell are the shooters? The wiimote should make this the ultimate FPS-console of all time, but the only good shooter out yet is CoD3, which was out for the Wii's release, and to make matters worse, the Wii seems to be the only format not to get CoD4! The salvage I was hoping for was MP3:Corruption with multiplayer. Y'know, the multiplayer from MP2, for 16 or 32 players online, with the MP3 control scheme... God, I'm so desperate for a good shooter, that I'm willing to believe that Red Steel 2 will be worthy of my student-sallary! I mean, shooters have allways been great for Nintendo consoles. I remember both Goldeneye and Perfect Dark for the N64, and Timesplitters and Die Hard Vendetta for the Cube. My teacher once worked at Dice (I study games development at the university of Skövde), and on a lesson this week he talked about his career... When Dice were running out of cash, they decided to talk to different publishers, to make a deal about funding and the ones who were interrested in investing in the project were Microsoft, EA and Nintendo. My teacher was the one who was sent to talk to them, and he said that Nintendo wanted the game really badly for the GC, and the deal was close to going through, when my teacher called his bos who was like "Nintendo... We don't want this game shown next to Mario and Zelda, try with the others instead" (and thats how we got screwed on one of the best shooter franchises ever)... Then there's the racers. Sure, the console has a really good controller to use for a wheel, but, seriously, where are the wheels? Y'know, with analogue pedals, a stick to shift with and force feedback? Not to mention the actual racing games... I mean, I allmost hoped for GT Wii to be the Nintendo equivelant to Gran Turismo, only with more fun tracks. As it turned out, it had all of the flaws that existed in the GC itteration: Too few cars (not to mention that EVERY SINGLE ONE was Japanese), technically crappy graphics, horrendous cel shading, short singleplayer mode, and according to some, bad controlls. I'm a racing nut, and I've only found salvage in the NFS games since the launch of the Cube. I tried to get Burnout 2 for the Cube about a year or two after release, but no store had it. My question is, do you think that the Wii is wasted potential?
  23. OK, I think that the Cube had 3 ports, of which one was called a high-speed port. The first of the others was from the off designed for the modem (why did they even bother, it was only ever used for PSO, and LAN for Mariokart and 1080), the other was eventually used for the GBA player. The high speed port was rumored to be for everything from DVD-players to expansion packs (similar to the N64 Ram memory expansion pack).
  24. Christ, table tennis... Is there a more lame game to make a videogame out of? I mean, it costs a little less than double the price of a Wii game to buy an actual table tennis table, with raquets and balls. I have one in the corridor outside my appartment, so my neighbours play it half the friggin weekend nights when they're drunk. I hope that Rockstar won't do like on the Gamecube, where they "try the market" with their crappiest games, and thereafter jump ship right before they release any of the good stuff... Give us Max Payne or GTA!
  25. How about an on board processor and such components to help the console? I haven't checked if the Wii has a hi-speed port, but both the N64 and GC had them, allthough neither were used in Europe... Personally, though I don't think there's going to be too many games with the need of it this generation. I think that in case it would happen, Nintendo would see which of the formats (Blu Ray, HD-DVD) will come out on top, and release a player when the technology becomes cheap enough. Personally I'm hoping for USB-harddrive compatibility for the console.
