Unemployment, travelling and smoking thread. Apparently.

At least here in Sweden, a lot of people are pissed because NOONE ever gets a job from the agencies. You need to go from company to company and ask. You should allways check with your friends and contacts.- 562 replies

Goldeneye 2 by Criterion Nintendo buy the Bond license after Ubis expires, then they hand it over to Criterion to develop using the Black engine: And Nintendo give an ulitmatum: The game will NOT get licensed for release if it in ANY way is worse than the original Goldeneye. Gorgeous graphics, tight controls, memorable missions and an awesome multiplayer!

If Square Enix were to make a Zelda, they'd probably keep the traditional combat system, but make the graphics and cinematics awesome, plus they'd add LOADS of sidequests and extra equipment. Plus Miyamoto doesen't have a timeline. It got thought of afterwards.

As we say in Sweden: Detta får mig att vilja döda kattungar. Translation: This makes me want to kill kittens. And you should know how much I love animals, especially cats.

Suggest a Nintendo franchise and developer to Reggie Fils-Aime, and he'll do the rest. Possibly. Speaking to Kotaku, Nintendo of America's head honcho Reggie Fils-Aime has asked gamers for their input. "In the same vein of Team Ninja working with Nintendo to re-imagine Metroid," he asked, "what other developer they'd like to see partner and collaborate with Nintendo? And on what franchise?" With Team Ninja working on Metroid: Other M, a title which seemingly has a new take on the series' gameplay, what other franchises would you like to see in a fresh light? Final Fantasy's Square-Enix team on the next Paper Mario? Burnout's Criterion taking on Mario Kart? Surely there can be no higher power on Earth than Reggie who could make these things happen... Well, what games do you want? Excite EVERYTHING by Criterion. Excitebike goes back to its semi realistic roots as Criterion brings out a new game in the Excite-series. Dirtbikes, trucks, snowboarders, jetskis, rallycars and other vehicles compete against each other over varried tracks. The variety of vehicles and the surroundings cause for spectacular situations and complete mayhem. Gumshoe by Namco Gumshoe is an old NES lightgun game where you play an ex-FBI agent whom is trying to save his daughter from a Mafia don. The Wii version will play a bit like Killer 7, where players can walk on rails, and by pressing a button stop his character. However the main character in this game will walk forward by default. The action scenes will be similar to Namco's Time Crisis games, with the exception of the view being behind your character. Cel shading, some sort of graphic novel drawing style, gritty realism? Who knows.

Does the article need to be true, or is it fine if we make up weird and amazing announcements in this case?

I still play first person shooters, although I think that many of them are well over hyped. The worst game I've bought this generation is Far Cry 2. However I still play games like Day of Defeat, Insurgency and Vegas 2, plus I'll get Operation Flashpoint 2 for the box as soon as it gets released. What I get from the game depends on what FPS I buy (NO, all FPS games are NOT generic and gray). From OFP and Insurgency I expect realism, and I expected realism from Vegas, although I don't think the game delivered. From Day of Defeat I expect a skill based multiplayer experience and from Goldeneye and Perfect Dark I just wanna shoot things! First person shooters were THE genre back in the late 90's, since then we've had sandbox gangster sort of games and MMO's. Right now THE genre is probably the cheap assed cashcow casual game.

Nintendo do have a tight grasp on the casual market. However, the Wii has much less third party support than expected and the Wii isn't really popular among the mainstream and core players. Nintendo undoubtedly want to win over these demographics too, and they will have dificulties to do so with a non-HD format. It most definitely is a given it'll surpass the PS3. The PS3 was pretty much state of the art on release, but now not so expensive PC's can surpass it. Compare how high-end the Dreamcast was in 1998 and how old it seemed when it was discontinued in 2001. The PS3 will be quite acceptable (if even that) by 2012 when compared to PC equivelants. Look at the PS2! In 2001 it was a technical marvel with a fairly high price tag. Remember how it was 5 years later when the 360 came out? It was old and inexpensive. Even when the PS2 was 2-3 years old, PC magazines were complaining that the graphics in certain games were crap due to them originally being released for the PS2. The next gen Nintendo console will be more powerful than any format we have right now. The later the release date, the more power. Nintendo really don't have a reason not to do so! The Wii has its limits. It'll need faster internet, a proper hard drive and a VASTLY imroved Wiimote in the future, among other things. Plus how many different adons can you release for a single format? Both Sega's 32X and Mega CD and Nintendo's expansion pack have proven that requiring even gamers to get certain accessories to play certain games has proven quite unsuccessful. Define any time soon, and define successor. I believe that the Wii will have a very long lifespan as a casual format. A format that will recieve first and probably third party support over very many years to come. However I think that Nintendo will release another console earlier. A format that'll be firstly be marketed at the mainstream and core, and first after pricedrops will be marketed towards the casual. 'Cuz let's face it, the casuals won't pre order the Wii's successor no matter how long it'll take. They won't pre order it in 2010, they won't preorder it in 2015 and they won't preorder it in 2050.

I believe that the Wii will have a very long lifespan. Maybe 10+ years. However, I think that the Wii2 could be announced in two years and be released by 2012-2013. Nintendo will probably keep the same architecture and make development very similar to how it is on the Wii. I think that Nintendo could release games the same way that many Game Boy color games were. In other words the games will make use of the next consoles new stuff (even better motion sensing, HD and maybe something else), while still making it playable on the new one. This will however only be done with the not so graphically dependent casual games, while traditional games like Zelda, Metroid and Mario will make full use of the new hardware with higher polycounts, better physics, quicker internet and so on.

For those whom don't know, Volvo have released a game that lets you race 7 Volvos, new and old across two tracks. The game is developed by Simbin whom brought out Race 07 and STCC. The game is based on the same engine, although the game's more arcadey (it's so arcadey that the FWD cars are easier to controll on the higher realism settings). Download it @ http://www.volvocars.com/game IMO, the best freebie of all time!

As someone else has already stated, we haven't played the Conduit or any of their other games yet, but I think that HVS will grow to become Nintendo's new Rare. The reason they're getting so much praise is that they're actually treating the Wii like a GCx2 rather than a Dreamcast technology wise. Beyond that they're giving us exclusive, traditional games that seem to be OK. Few other developers seem to care, as they're either bringing out half assed ports or on rail versions of their games. The reason they're getting hype isn't that they've been developing first person shooters per se. It's more about them developing games that the Wii doesen't have. I wouldn't be surprised if they'd bring out a traditional fighter in the veign of Tekken or Dead or Alive, or maybe a racer.

Who else believes the Wii is starting to lose the "Console Wars"?
darkjak replied to a topic in Nintendo Gaming
Let's get one thing straight. I mean what I write, nothing more. I said that Nintendo fans have the right to be pissed IF Nintendo abandon F-zero and other loved franchises. I have never said that Nintendo HAVE abandoned F-zero. I'm referring to Wii Sports Resort, make up studio (which I think uses a very narrow view on women and probably will get criticized by feminist groups) and that lot. I'm very pleased with seeing MG2! Well, a Nintendo release list from circa 1998 stated that PW2 was going to be released for the N64, so there definitely were plans for a sequel to PW64. And of course, it's a great Nintendo franchise, as fans we have the right to be dissapointed regardlessly. This isn't the Soviet Union where you get sent to the Gulag for wanting more than you get. Just like Toyota fans have been raging because Toyota discontinued both the MR2, Celica, Supra and even the Corolla GTi, leaving Toyota with no fun cars left. Yes, the Wii is great, and there are undoubtedly many great games. However, we don't exactly have many choices in each genre. In first person shooters we so far only have Medal of Honor, within realistic-ish racing we only have Ferrari, with traditional fighting we have Castlevania and with flight sims we have Heatseeker. I absolutely love the Wii and wouldn't want to sell it. As a matter of fact, I've recomended my mother to buy one. I got really psyched over the new Metroid and Mario Galaxy games, and I'm probably going to pick up Grinder whenever it's released. Sin and Punishment is a must buy and if I didn't have a Wii, I'd buy one for the next Zelda alone. And once I get cash (from summer work), I'll probably buy a lot of games I've missed out on thanks to my anorectic student wallet. I am a Nintendo fan. I love Nintendo's franchises, that's the reason I pre ordered a Wii. However I want Nintendo to get a game catalog so good and varied I'll have a good conscience selling my 360. -
I think that the Wii life sign reader thingy will do just that. You wear it during some tutorial level, and based on your pulse, the game will adapt its difficulty setting.
-
The short answer? NEIN!!! Nintendo announced three games worth mentioning. Beyond that they announced several minigame compilations and a device that will warn me if I go into cardiac arest, which should mean it'll hold for at least 50 years, 'cuz I aint dying from heart disease until I'm 70 or more. There wasn't really anything inspiring or original there.

Who else believes the Wii is starting to lose the "Console Wars"?

F-Zero's been out for every Nintendo console since release, bar the original Gameboy and the DS. I don't understand why Nintendo fans shouldn't be pissed if Nintendo abandon some of the most loved franchises and go off doing cheap assed cash cows. The frenzy about Pilotwings raged on already last generation, why the f**k would it stop now? And to look on the Wii "in its own merits" is just plain bull. It's a games machine! Something we're taught here is that you're allways supposed to make a good game. NOT a game that's good considering certain factors. That said, there are several interesting games coming to the Wii. Nintendo should, now that they OWN the casual market attempt to conquer the core and mainstream markets as well. 'Cuz let's face it, there's a fair ammount of people whom are between core and casual. The guys whom aren't intimidated by a controller, but yet still buy games based on the boxart. People whom buy Need for Speed and think it's realistic, or whom buy Timesplitters but never realise there are unlockables (). Nintendo are far too snowed in on the casuals. They could do A LOT more to attract the core and mainstream, especially considering that both tend to be attracted to the same types of games -
Metroid: Other M Mario Galaxy 2 The Grinder Silent Hill Zelda

'Cuz he isn't? If that's your definition, you should be making fun of everyone in the army: Anyhows, I don't really understand IGN for calling the girl "generic". And how this is a darker Link than ever is also beyond me. He's the same as in the concept art for Ocarina of Time and Twilight Princess.
-
Yes, making it look like the old concept art, or like the new Prince of Persia or RS2 would be OK. And the poster hanging on my wall: But never ever the Wind Waker style again. I really didn't like it, and considering that the Wii actually is quite a powerful system, toon graphics don't really fill a purpose.
-
Well since the game is somewhat realistic, the developers probably thought it was a good idea to make different cups with different limitations, to keep the difficulty consistent. In Sega GT all you have to do is to take one of the early open races, and race them over and over again with a really tuned car, and you can buy whatever you want cuz you earn cash so fast. I'd like a whole bunch of extra cups though, so you can use your fave car over and over again. Hovever, it's not like you need hundreds of cars to beat the game. I've beaten nearly all the cups I've unlocked so far, and I've "only" really used 10 cars. I don't want an arcadey aproach where 2 cars are enough to beat the entire game.
-
I'm definitely looking forward to this. The tracks seem more good looking than F2. I loved Forza 2, although I'd like much more crappy cars. Half the charm of Gran Turismo was the ability to buy the car you own IRL and whup everyones ass. Gran Turismo for the PSP is going to contain 800 cars, this will only contain 300, which is a shame! I really hope that they'll include some off road stages as well.

Who else believes the Wii is starting to lose the "Console Wars"?

To be honest, the PS3 thingy doesen't seem at all better than the Wiimote with the WM+. Nor does the PS3 wand have a nunchuck. And what casual game will throw cash to buy a PS3 AND this addon that will cost god knows how much. Natal on the other hand is just a stereo vision version of the Eyetoy. It will feel awkward to play most games without holding anything at all. The only thing I can think of that it actually would be good for is fighting games. It also seems slightly flawed, if you look at how badly the avatar followed the presenters movement. And what goes for both of these is that they're addons, rather than the actual controller. So the question is, why should most developers create games for an accessory which is a potential mega flop? Nintendo are now getting a bunch of core games, and they've already got the casuals hooked. Both MS and Sony feel like they're doing too little too late. -
You shoulda heard the guys laughing their ass off when Nintendo presented this. Especially when they said that you'd get to investiget Bowsers inside pipes! Has noone checked if Nintendos script migh get missunderstood?
-
Wow. This is the most shameless clone of all time. It's a black Wiimote with a lightbulb on top! Of course, it did seem to be very accurate, but I think the Wiimote will be as well with the WM+.
-
Incorrect. Nintendo started development even before Twilight Princess was released. The game may be well on the way. I'm convinced they'll show it sometime next year. And at least this is confirmation we'll get a Zelda rather than a Celda.
