After giving it a long (wich is, with e, three seconds) thought, I think that the format war Blu-Ray and HD-DVD will result into suicide for both formats. Thanks to the war, people will not be able to choose one or another soon and will pick the universal, downloadable multi-media content. Since multi-media PC's and topboxes are getting more familiar everyday, this war might be the war that gives downloads the essential time to become more popular before people choose for one of both formats. This may result into some problems, I giess. Though I'll wait and see what it turns out.

How To Make The Shiny New "Vista/Mac" Buttons Look?
Jasper replied to ReZourceman's topic in General Chit Chat
Oh, and your white should have been stronger, not 75%-transparant, like you have in your example. -
If you click on both sides at the same time, it counts as a left-click. The right click only works if there's nof finger on the left side of the mouse (as least, that's what the first generation Mighty Mouses is like). No widescreen wallpapers, though I advise you to keep your standard Apple one for a month or so in order to abandon it for a year, put it back on there when they announce the new line of MacBook and think that you just bought a new one, because that wallpaper makes you lappy seem so shiny and new.

How To Make The Shiny New "Vista/Mac" Buttons Look?

Indeed it does. You're getting your colors way to dark - so, for your pleasure, I've included something nice here: two PSD-files with gradients and all on the layers and it gives you a nice idea of how you can make shiny buttons yourself. Thje problem with yours is it's light-dark contrast is to hard and that gives a tube-effect, more than a 'light' effect. This one is for your buttons: http://www.planc.be/jasper/shinybutton1.psd And this one is to explain you how-to make a 'apple'-ball (they use it for everything, from dashboard to spotlight): http://www.planc.be/jasper/shinybutton2.psd (right-click, save aas, they'll be gone in a few days! (But I'll post that)) By the way, the font is Creampuff and should be downloadable for free somewhere.. Enjoy! -
Isn't there a one-year warranty required in the European Union? Ah well, since in Belgium you don't pay for warranty and you get a year, anyway.

So those product update slips that come in the package are actually granted by Apple? I doubt they'll send me a copy of Leopard, though. I've got my maac almost two years now and it came with those paper-things that you can send off to Apple to get updates of the software. I'de love to give it a go, but I'm going to save for a iMac or MacBook Pro for next year anyway.

Shipping with new macs will probably be next year, so consider yourself lucky they didn't delay it to next year - since it'll be shipping with every mac about three months later. Or has that policy changed?

How are you ever going to learn how to do it if you never try? Just follow my steps and you'll be fine . Just givee it a go, post it here, and I'll try to make your 'sub-par' 'up-par' (okay, that one was bad). If you try, I'll help . -

Yes, refer to me as the devil in disguise. I always bring in Mac just for the sake of bringing it in. God damnit, if I hated Windows that much, I wouldn't have posted that I use it, do I? Apparantly from the moment the word 'mac' pops up in the discussion you windows-fans all go crazy over the word, even though I was just saying something small and looking at what the position of Windows vista was. If I want to see if Windows' voice recognition is any good, I'de better compare it to the competitors on the market no? And it that aspect, Apple stinks. Try playing Chess with voice recognition - it's like talking to aa wall and saying he should paint himself. It won't hppen. I'm glad it works fine on Vista, wich is a triumph for Vista users. See what my mac reference did here? It looked at competition, and it didn't bluntly say 'mac nis better' - wich I never say without giving you a good reason for it. It's tiring me that the moment you mention mac or apple, all you guys are stressing on that reference even though I posted a completely different question (do you guys still have those annoying pop-up bubbles? They were really annoying back in the XP days...). Sadly enough, everyone focuses on a small, insignificant Mac-reference, forcing me to go to defense mode. If you guys wouldn't blow this out of proportion it would be fine. Djees. Are you running AERO, too? My pals laptop has 2Gb and it is amazing to see Vista working on that. Smooth, silky and pretty. -

You know, that's what happens when you pull it out of context. Off course I knew it would get some response from the windows freaks that refer to me to always get Apple squeezed in a discussion, while I didn't mean it bad, I just predicted that I'de get those replies. My first reply wasn't all too Apple-obvious and defensive. -

If it's about Windows, you might just try to see what place it takes in the big picture of OS-es and see if it is truly as good as they say. That why I brought it up a while ago, without stating that Apple was better, just referring to it and then everyone blew it out of proportion. It ain't the mac-fans that make such a deal out of it, it's all you, guys. If you want to know how good Vista is you gotta see what the competition looks like. And since I never used Ubuntu, it's MacOS X Tiger that got the honor here. But i said that Vista wwas quite nice and on par with the rest now. Ah well. People like you make a big point of it everytime somebody wants to make a reasonable point. -

Eeehhh? You're not making too much sense here... If you can pull it off, why don't you? Why do you still ask if you made the buttons months ago? I'm really out of ideas here. -
Because people don't buy a PS3 to see Blu-Ray movies. PS3 buyers are not guaranteed to actually buy Blu-Ray's, while the ones that buy a player are sure to buy at least one Blu-Ray. That's why I don't include them.

I would check the sales of standalone players more than the sales of discs. If the standalone players sell better (standalone, you fool, not PlayStation® 3), the disc sales will be in the same measerement. In the end it's all about how many living rooms these things pop into.

I'm not really starting the fight. i'mm not the first fanboy - I dare to admit errors in Mac, too. Too be honest, I've always been the one who said that macs aren't perfect. But when it comes to Vistaa, off course I look in the direction of Mac. I just try to give windows a little credit before the real fanboys rush in. And I've been saying some nice things about Vista too, didn't I? We seriously need a good discussion thread about it, though. -

It's a sleeky advertisement for a product that, erm, doesn't exist, and it better stays that way. I'm in my final year of Art School and I need to make my final work, and it has to be about 'metamorphosis'. SO I designed a program that you can use to edit your DNA (order today!). I also use a parody on the PS3's slogan 'this is living'. Wala, now you got the explaination. I've said what I thought about Mr. Butsex's sig, so i'm not repeating myself. -

It's kind of rubbish to discard mac as aa 'everyday-user system' for 'everyday tasks' - it's up to many professional things and professional applications mostly enjoy the vivid world of Mac around them. However, I think the systems are mostly equal, whereas Windows is more focused on games and Mac on professional applications. If I have to post one more time about Apple in this thread (okay, I don't have to, but if I have to tell you something again), i'll start a 'Argumented Apple vs. PC thread'. And it will be an arguments, and not opinions thread. Both systems are capable of the everyday tasks and both systems are capable of doing some great stuff in thee professional industry. Apple's still the number one choice for users in the graphic industry, while windows is the number one choice in the, uhm, accounting industry? Okay, Windows isn't really number one in any and doesn't 'excel' in any. In the end, Apple only excels in the graphic design industry. Whatever. -

Can you actuallt change your user name? Everyone seems to be doing it these days... Anywayss, I don't like Mr. Bumsex's the least. Sorry lad, but cheap photoshop impress infants, but they bore mee to death (or better: they scare me like a copy of George Bush on my doorstep). It's a mixture of images trying to become great in one-way-or-another. It just feels very... fake. And let's not forget the effect on the name... For you 'request': perhaps you could draw a bum and something-referring-but-not-literally-sex in a wario ware style, like with crayons - as if a child drew it himself. That would look cool, nifty, and very much non-sex alike. -

I could turn this discusssion in an Apple-vs-PC one, but I won't. let's just say they're two different and necessary platforms and it's simple: Apple has the best OS because it has to have the best or die, you know, the underdog strategy. They have innovation and they use their time to tweak the system to their best. Microsoft however is shot with every edition of Windows simply because they are an easy target. PC's aren't that bad (I enjoy working on them now and then, switching back to XP is - for a brief second - a nice change from the usual Apple-enviroment wich, I have to admi,t gets boring after one-and-a-half years). Vista however, if running on the appropriate hardware (don't try without excessive RAM) looks the lot and works perfectly fine, untill you get a virus, that is, but again, Apple's the underdog and nobody develops virusses for the underdog, so it's not really an argument. But Vista is quite good, I've only heard a few things that are really anoying, so can anyone verify? Windows protects to much, asking permission for about-anything. Those anoying information-bubbles are still there, giving you five bubbles when inserting newx hardware ('new hardware found' 'fast device on slow USB-Hub'). Actuaally, those are the two issues I've read about. And they're major, since I hate it when i work with XP and it bubbles up for permissions and information. Annoying. -
These long names are gonna annoy...

I was most impressed with my ten-second try-out on a friends computer. it works smooth and fine and the animation and eye-candy is certainly a revolution for Windows-users, since they're used to basics for years. Microsoft has gotten the best out of their system now and I hope they c continue going on like this. Maybe they'll become Tiger once. (I know, it was a Mac reference, I just love to hve the windows-lickers defend themselves over and over again, it's just odd that they jump to defense mode whenever apple is in there). -
I do like these screenshots posted on macRumors from Leopard - they're nice, without the brushed metal. i alays loved the 'plastic' interface that Mail has and it looks good, smooth and simple. Hope they have more enhancements, though.

Nice. And very obvious, since it's in aan empty room sspanning half thee screen. The only bad thing is that I can't really read what you wrote, because of your nickanem-a-thon that's way to long and not som:ething a regular person can remember... 6 anyway, because I actually don't really like the annoying Photoshop Special effects on the text. But it looks like a real, nineties, producct. -
Hmmm... Apparantly mac had translucency a while ago - is that true? I'm not sure, I've never seen it. i'm looking forward to leopard, but I think it's still a while and I hope they give us more than just another 'minor' update of thee system with no great leaps forward...

How To Make The Shiny New "Vista/Mac" Buttons Look?
Jasper replied to ReZourceman's topic in General Chit Chat
You're just using Bevel and Emboss, not? Here's a tip: don't. Just follow these simple steps: 1. Make a nice shape with a gradient from the darker color (say, bordeaux) on the bottom to the pure color (say red) on the top, don't ever mix your colors with white, they suck. 2. Make a smaller copy of the shape and put a gradient from white (on the top) to transparant (on the bottom) and make sure your fill is empty, so you can see the gradient below. 3. Put your text on. Simple as that. (4. You could add a border to your big shape, like me, with a reflected black-to-white gradient on 45 degrees giving you that shiny addition) Or, Alternativly, you could create a gradient like this: giving you this result:
