LukeLee Posted November 28, 2006 Posted November 28, 2006 WSJ: First cases of "Wii Elbow" reportedAerobic activity with motion-sensing controller causing aches, pains; Nintendo urges exercise to counteract. Nintendo is seeking to lead the charge against the notion that all gamers are unfit couch potatoes. Nationwide sellouts of the Wii indicate that gamers are supporting that notion, and many have been very vocal about the system's motion-sensitive controller as being a revolution in gaming. The problem is that it appears that after the first week of the console's release, many of those gamers are running out of breath. The Wall Street Journal says that "Wii elbow" and other Wii-related physical issues may be the first widespread gaming-related injuries since "Nintendo thumb," the condition that ran rampant following the introduction of the NES in the '80s and the SNES in the '90s. The newspaper spoke with several new Wii owners who were experiencing aches and pains from repeated use of the console. A 12-year-old from Kentucky reported numbness in her right arm after mimicking the motions of bowling and boxing in Wii Sports; a computer programmer in Minnesota, who admits to being "not very active," complained of sore shoulders; and a man in Indiana says he was "soaking wet with sweat, head to toe" after Wii Boxing. Nintendo vice president of marketing Perrin Kaplan put it plainly. "[The Wii] was not meant to be a Jenny Craig supplement," she told the WSJ. "If people are finding themselves sore, they may need to exercise more." http://uk.gamespot.com/news/6162355.html?tag=latestnews;title;2 So overdramatic, but i love Kaplan's response. Get into better shape you buggers - i'm not in amazing shape but im sure i wont be pouring with sweat.
Nintendork Posted November 28, 2006 Posted November 28, 2006 MY BUM IS ON THE CHEESE. It's been done. Think it was called "Wiinjuries" or something.
Emasher Posted November 28, 2006 Posted November 28, 2006 i got wii elbow once (you barly feel it) wii sports also tells you to go outside after 3 sessions (who's going to listen) but ninty could use that in the lasuit.
ultrajamie Posted November 28, 2006 Posted November 28, 2006 ... anyone who claims they'd injured themselves while swish around a 4 inch piece of plastic weighing only slightly more than two AA batteries... deserves to A: wear a big sign saying 'I'm a F _ _ _ Wit' and B: Never be allowed to cut their own food with a knife. ffs

dannbrownn Posted November 28, 2006 Posted November 28, 2006 fat fuckers do some fucking excercise and i dont mean walking to macdonalds to get another burger. I would normally hesitate to endorse such a response as that, but it's to funny not to quote in a reply for no reason! Anyway my actual post is: It is a world worthy of our pity that we live in if people can complain about their own bodies after they themselves do something to either damage themselves or let themselves get out of shape for them to be in a position that playing the wii could cause themselves pain. There is only one person to blame if you injure yourself with the wii. And that one person is not Satoru Iwata!
ShadowV7 Posted November 28, 2006 Posted November 28, 2006 Well if the flap their arms about all over the place it's no wonder they get some injuries,a little flick of the wrist would be fine or don't fling your arms about to fast/hard. Love Kaplans response aswell.
Blue_Ninja0 Posted November 29, 2006 Posted November 29, 2006 These kind of problems won't happen as much in Europe as they happen in America.
gmanprime Posted November 29, 2006 Posted November 29, 2006 A friend of mine broke his right arm at the wrist half a year ago and say that sword slashing for more than a minute kills. That is understandable though. These kind of problems won't happen as much in Europe as they happen in America. Hey. I sapose it is true though.
