Sony are basically money-grabbing gits that only started in the console market to take money from Nintendo. Nintendo should have been left with console gaming, Microsoft with PC. That would be a perfect world, with Sony just making TV's and other electronics.

"should"?

A company wants to enter a new market and make money and you see this as wrong?

Sony have done wonders for the games industry, anyone who says otherwise is a blind fanboy.

I'm not a fanboy, but I see the only reason Sony joined the market was because of the Phillips/Nintendo/Sony tag-team grudge when they were making the CD-i. Nothing more.

i will agree that they have removed (somewhat) the idea that games are for geeks thing, but apart from that, im not seeing much that has been revolutionised. (feel free to expand on what i say. im not gonna spend an hour thinking on what they have done... got homework to do.)

Say what you like about how great the SNES/N64 were, but they were still very much the domain of kids or older gamers who had grown up with Nintendo. The PSX was much the same but with the strategy of swamping the market with hundreds of titles. With the PS2 Sony made console gaming completely normal in the eyes of the public, something Nintendo certainly wouldn't have achieved with the Gamecube, for example.

Personally I think Sony's strategy will benefit Nintendo this generation. So many people are now comfortable with console gaming (and by people I do of course emphasise older people) than with the affordability of the Wii and the really fun-looking games there's a good chance people will now be ready to experiment and try new things.

Anyway sorry for the fanboy comment, I just get sick of people saying Sony destroyed the games market or that they don't make any fun games etc. We're all Wii-buyers here anyway, I'd imagine :D

i totally agree that they have helped the industry to begin with. The ps2 did wonders but the ps2 really tones it down.the ps2 has too many casual titles.far too many! The gamecube would have been good enough to be a casual console.it started off with great support and had all the big titles.Unfortunetly gta was the title they needed.Sony tend to steal a lot of things

inshort i agree ps1 was good for the market but the ps2 was good and bad

what a load of rubbish. you hardly have any idea about the gaming past.

nintendo was the money grabber, it was because of them the likes of sony and namco got sick of being the ones making nintendo possible and why they bit back. the snes had sony chips, and played namco games, and they both thought why are we getting fk all from this deal, and the rest is history

The 2nd of your posts in as many days that I've read and been glad to read.

Nice to see there's someone else here who actually speaks sense when it comes to Nintendo's rivals.

That bit about sony chips got me interested. So I looked it up. Only the sound chip and DSP were made by Sony.

The real reason Sony did what it did is, as everyone knows, that Nintendo broke the contract with sony about the CDROM-addon for the SNES. And the reason they broke that contract was that Yamauchi realised that by that contract Sony would get complete control over any and all titles written on the SNESCD-ROM format.

So yes, Nintendo (or rather Yamauchi) was a money grabber. But because Sony were found out to be money grabbers as well, they were thrown out and they started on their own.

i found trisha's post rather harsh! very doom-laden! and i disagreed with a lot, but each to their own.

personally, i think the wii will not be confined to bedrooms, i feel the 360 might be though. also, nintendo could have thrown all their money into developing a machine like the 360 for example, with the graphics and sound et all, but the cube's less than spectacular (yet still successful) success got them thinking. the DS has proven what's possible, I don't believe it was a matter that Nintendo COULDN'T develop a machine with better graphics, they chose not not and instead devlop a unique machine that has a better chance against the competition.

Yeah this is right, try to know what you're talking about before doing it. Back in the day Nintendo was a ruthless money lovin company.

"I have the biggest videogame company in the world!! No... the universe!! Everyone will bow down and pledge for our Official Nintendo Seal of Quality!"

The coming of Iwata was a blessing to nintendo. He's driving the company in the right direction and correcting Yamauchi's big mistake.
