Oli1983uk Posted February 20, 2006 Posted February 20, 2006 When I Open Windows Task manager it shows I have 52 process running and this when I am only using a few programs on my computer, Dont know what most of them are, I run spy bot and adaware every week. is there anyway of lowering the number of processes running?
Pit-Jr Posted February 20, 2006 Posted February 20, 2006 If youve got 2 or 3 applications running, its normal to have 40-50 processes going on. Especially if one of those apps is a virus scanner running in the background
Jon Posted February 20, 2006 Posted February 20, 2006 enter msconfig from /start/run, here you can choose all the apps you want loaded when your computer boots. Its probably a good idea to tick the 'hide all the microsoft services box', so you don't delete anything important.
Raining_again Posted February 20, 2006 Posted February 20, 2006 half of the processes you are looking at are probs drivers and config files that you need to keep running. the ones you worry about are the ones that take up the majority of your ram and proc time. (cpu and mem usage). with msn & wmp (and virus programs etc) i have 51. EDIT: The ones at the top that take the majority are the ones you need to check. Background tasks won't affect it too much unless youve got hundreds of them.
Fresh Posted February 20, 2006 Posted February 20, 2006 Doenload X-RayPC, it shows you all the processes, where they are comming from and if ther are bad or good. Saved my ass several times.
Nintendofan64 Posted February 27, 2006 Posted February 27, 2006 Some programs use more than 1 prosess !
