OK, I've only played for an hour, but this needs to be said.

You don't use B to select Luigi's actions in battles, and it's driving me insane! I've been playing this series since the GBA and "Luigi = B" is engraved in my head.

That's a really weird design choice. What do you use instead?

A.

But when you're actually attacking, Luigi uses B for his action commands. I keep pressing B to select things for him, and nada.

I've been enjoying my time with the game. I've not been playing a lot of it but rather just playing short bursts in between other stuff. Only 20 hours in at the moment and have just reached the 2nd Giant Lighthouse.

I'm loving the animations, especially with Luigi. The guy is hilarious and it's nice to see him being treated with a little more respect in this entry. In the previous entries, it used to annoy me seeing him being cast aside and being used as a joke character but here he is really shining, at least in the early stage of the game.

One thing that continues to annoy me is this series is the enemy HP. I've been grinding levels where I can and even though I'm a fair few levels higher than enemies, they still take a few hits before they are defeated. The damage they do to me is laughable but the time it takes to bring them down should really be a lot quicker than what is.

The battle plug system is really cool and it's something that does help with speeding up the battles. Being able to switch certain ones out and mix and match for different combos allows for some great experimentation. I usually have equipped the one that dishes out more coins and then any other that can increase my damage output.

So, yeah, still early in but loving the jolly vibes the game is giving off. Plus, I love team IDLE. They are adorable. :D

I'm still chugging away at the game. I'm currently heading to the 3rd Great Lighthouse.

Those players and reviewers who complained about how long the game is...yeah, I can now kinda see where they are coming from. I'm 30 hours in and probably have another 20 or so to get through before the credits hit. Everything just feels very dragged out and the fact that the game is now sending me back and forth to revisit areas that I've previously been to doesn't help things.

The game still makes me smile though. It's so jolly and the reactions of characters are always worth a watch.

I'm disappointed the question wasn't asked as to why they decided to pad the game out the way they did. Yes, I'm still crawling my way through it, although I have put it to one side and had a break to play Detective Pikachu Returns which turns out is even worse. I can't catch a break on my Switch. :D

Interesting that the Nintendo producers were considering taking the HD-2D route with M&L… nice to know that they’re thinking about it…

Hopefully they can knock some sense into Game Freak and make them go HD-2D with either a B/W remake or Gen 10; and get them to make a proper handcrafted Pokemon game with actual worthwhile level design again!
