Happenstance Posted June 9, 2021 Posted June 9, 2021 (edited) Quote DICE has announced the much-rumored (and repeatedly leaked) Battlefield 2042 — a near-future FPS set amid a worldwide ecological disaster. It will arrive for PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PS4 and Xbox One on October 22. Announced in a reveal stream today, the game features 128-player multiplayer matches on PC and new-gen consoles (but remains at 64 players on PS4 and Xbox One), and builds environmental disasters into its matches, including sandstorms, tornadoes, and more. The first direct gameplay will be shown on June 13, presumably as part of E3 2021. Alongside the expected new weapons, vehicles, and equipment, the game also introduces Specialists, named characters inspired by the traditional Battlefield classes but with added abilities, with 10 coming at launch. The game brings Battlefield's traditional Conquest and Breakthrough modes, and will add Hazard Zone – a squad-based mode that DICE says is "very different" to the existing modes – and another, as-yet unannounced new mode, described as a "love letter to Battlefield fans". The unannoucned mode will be shown at EA Play Live in July. https://www.ign.com/articles/battlefield-2042-release-date-october?utm_source=twitter Edited June 9, 2021 by Happenstance
Kav Posted June 9, 2021 Posted June 9, 2021 Gives me serious Battlefield 4 vibes, which is great as that’s my favourite FPS of all time!
Happenstance Posted June 9, 2021 Author Posted June 9, 2021 I think 4 was the last one I played properly. I am in the mood for another Battlefield game though so I might get this.
Sméagol Posted June 9, 2021 Posted June 9, 2021 Enjoy the next-gen tax! I would maybe be interested if I had a computer to run it on. Though there are a few things that bother me and I'm not sure if I should get into an EA multiplayer game at all. But 10 years ago, when my computer was new and super high end, Battlefield 2142 was on of the first games I bought for it. I never got to play it properly as even by then, the game was old, but this game could be the closest thing.
ArtMediocre Posted October 8, 2021 Posted October 8, 2021 Open beta currently in progress. My feelings after playing four matches is that the game is looking gorgeous (minus the HUD), but there are some work left to do. Still, gunplay is good, and the plus-system is genious. Seeing an enemy flanking you up close? Switch out your scope to a red-dot sight on the fly and win the fight. Awesome 1
Happenstance Posted October 26, 2021 Author Posted October 26, 2021 Is anyone planning on getting this next month? I'm in the mood for some multiplayer shooting so I think I will be.

I know for a fact that Battlefield games usually get better after a few months/years, but it shows promise. I might be more interested in checking out Battlefield Portal though, seeing as we won't have to deal with specialists and such. But we'll see what the reviewers and early buyers say
