Happenstance Posted May 3, 2016 Posted May 3, 2016 Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War 3 announced The nods and winks are over: Sega and Relic Entertainment have announced the game we all knew was coming: Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War 3. We dont have any gameplay or screenshots, but according to the official blurb, Dawn of War 3 sees players lead elite hero units and big armies with massive units. Here's executive producer Stephen MacDonald: "This is the Dawn of War that fans have been waiting for. Our biggest units ever? Check. Giant orbital lasers? Check. Base-building, epic heroes, huge battles, it's all in there. Get ready for the biggest Dawn of War yet. For the Emperor!" It sounds like the first Dawn of War, which feature traditional RTS elements such as base-building, combined with the second Dawn of War, which ditched the base-building in favour of micro-management of powerful units. Best of both worlds, perhaps. The rousing announcement trailer features the Space Marines, Eldar and Orks, so those races will no doubt be playable. Here's hoping for the Dark Eldar! Dawn of War 3's announcement comes seven years after the release of Dawn of War 2, although Relic has continued to support the real-time strategy series with expansions and patches. Dawn of War 2 was published by previous Relic-owner THQ. After THQ went bust, Sega picked up the studio and the licensing rights to Dawn of War. Relic released Company of Heroes 2 and a raft of expansions, but Dawn of War 3 is its first main game produced entirely as a Sega-owned studio. Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War 3 is due out on PC in 2017. http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2016-05-03-warhammer-40-000-dawn-of-war-3-announced
drahkon Posted May 3, 2016 Posted May 3, 2016 Never played a Dawn of War game. What's the franchise about? Need a quick rundown.
Nolan Posted May 3, 2016 Posted May 3, 2016 Never played a Dawn of War game. What's the franchise about? Need a quick rundown. Are you familiar at all with Warhammer 40k? The Dawn of War series is a excellent RTS set in the 40k universe following a chapter of Space Marines known as the Blood Ravens. Standard RTS fare but with fun grimdark stories. The original games were pretty standard, Dawn of War 2 was a large step up in production and story telling, though the RTS moved away from base building and towards small squad control. The expansions went back towards Base Building. Relic also handled the Space Marine game if you're familiar with that at all. It's just an action game in the universe is all, and no Blood Ravens.
CoolFunkMan Posted May 3, 2016 Author Posted May 3, 2016 I saw the trailer earlier, it's so EPIC! By the sounds of what they're doing, this is going be awesome. I think I'll need to upgrade my PC for this one... *Also, can a mod change the thread title plz? Thanks!*
gaggle64 Posted May 3, 2016 Posted May 3, 2016 Never played a Dawn of War game. What's the franchise about? Need a quick rundown. It is the 41st Millennium. The Imperium of Man, ruled by the God Emperor who's psychic energy guides ships through the daemon infested Warp, is in a constant state of war across the galaxy. At the forefront are the Space Marines, genetically modified warriors of unshakable loyalty and super human strength. Alongside them the Imperial Guard, ordinary men and woman drafted to the deadly front lines. Against them stand many foes: The Eldar, dark and mysterious aliens in the twilight of their empires. The Orks, vicious blood-thirsty creatures who thrive on violence. Above all else stands the forces of Chaos, the alliance of demonic gods and traitorous Space Marines who seek to escape the Warp and taint the very fabric of reality. It is the 41st Millennium and there is only war.
