The first one was a great idea narrative design wise - using the way the elements in the world are organised to tell your story rather than just have a bunch of text or cutscenes. One of the first games I can remember that made me feel that it was doing story in a way that you couldn't get in another medium. Too bad it was Schafer's first 3D game and played kinda bad though.
