I just hope that Nintendo keep living by his words of wisdom going forward now.

It's interesting because at the moment they are kinda stuck between a rock and a hard place. On the one hand it would be wise to just improve on the Switch formula and not rock the boat but on the other hand this goes against Iwata's philosophy on not just adding more power to your previous device and calling it a day.

Thanks for sharing @Helmsly, watched it on my lunch which was a big mistake because it was just kind of a gutting watch. I'm convinced that you can mute that video and remove the subtitles and it'll still be crystal clear from Sakurai's face that he's talking fondly of someone he both still misses and holds a lot of respect for.

I need to go back and catch up on some of the episodes I've missed, but really think it's great that Sakurai has released this series, and really appreciate just how well he's communicated so many different concepts across the series. Appreciate even more that he dedicated the final episode to sharing some of his memories of Iwata.

Damn... crazy to think that it's been 10 years since he died already :(

The really gutting part for me was watching and realising "oh damn, this was 10 years ago", and then the second realisation which came after Sakurai mentioned that he was roughly a decade younger and a decade removed in terms of experience in the industry from Iwata.

That means, within the space of the next year or so, he'll be older than Iwata lived to be, and similarly, will have been in the industry longer than Iwata was.

:(

Long before Iwata died I would read a lot of interviews with him as well as with people who talked about him and they spoke much in the way Sakurai does in this video. You could tell by the way some people spoke about him that they had a pure respect for him both professionally and personally. It was pretty clear that Iwata was a genuinely decent man.

When the news broke that he had passed away in 2015, it made me sad because it felt like we'd lost one of the good guys.

I still remember reading all of the tweets and messages at the time from different people in the industry who had met or worked with him and he really did seem like a special person. I found all of it very touching but for some reason the thing that made me tear up was this tweet from the PlayStation Twitter account

I've not owned a PlayStation console since the PS2, but for whatever reason this got to me
