MoogleViper Posted April 22, 2013 Posted April 22, 2013 On the 8th of June I'll be running a 12 mile assault course, known as the Tough Mudder, with a team from work. Obstacles include greased up monkey bars, walking through fire, walking through electrical wires, a 5 metre drop into mud, and much more. So if any of you would kindly sponsor me, I would be very grateful. Any amount is appreciated, so don't worry about that. http://www.justgiving.com/nielsenmudders The money will be raised towards Get Kids Going, who help disabled children get into sports and activities. It's a great charity, and well worth the support. More info about the charity on the JustGiving page and here: http://www.getkidsgoing.com/ More info about the Tough Mudder challeng here: http://toughmudder.com/ And some pictures of the obstacles:
Magnus Posted April 22, 2013 Posted April 22, 2013 I don't know, Moogle... I think you should have pretended that we were sponsoring someone else.
Dannyboy-the-Dane Posted April 23, 2013 Posted April 23, 2013 Damn, that's something! Once money comes in I'll donate a sum.
Rummy Posted April 23, 2013 Posted April 23, 2013 I'd sponsor more, but it's apparently the season when EVERYONE is doing something charitable, and there's only so much charity I have.
MoogleViper Posted April 23, 2013 Author Posted April 23, 2013 I'd sponsor more, but it's apparently the season when EVERYONE is doing something charitable, and there's only so much charity I have. Your donations was very generous. I'm grateful, and I'm sure it will do some good work.
MoogleViper Posted June 9, 2013 Author Posted June 9, 2013 I finished the course yesterday in 2 hours 40 (could have been less but spent about 15 minutes waiting for the rest of my team). Thanks to everyone who donated, we blitzed our original target. I forgot to close my mouth, so swallowed a lot of that muddy water. 10,000 volts of electrical wires. Enjoying a pint at the end. Now I have bruises, cuts, grazes, a pulled calf (which I ran the last 2 miles with), aches, and even sunburn. It was awesome.
Dannyboy-the-Dane Posted June 9, 2013 Posted June 9, 2013 Wait, did I ever donate to this? I thought I did, but I don't see my name on the list.
Ellmeister Posted June 9, 2013 Posted June 9, 2013 Was it actually really hard? Did you do a lot of training for it?
MoogleViper Posted June 9, 2013 Author Posted June 9, 2013 I did a few 6 mile runs beforehand. Some of the obstacles were hard, such as the uphill log carry, and the monkey bars covered in vegetable oil (which just ended up being a swimming obstacle as I fell in pretty quickly). Most were just designed to be either fun, (crawling underneath a tank, climbing over stacks of logs, running through knee high mud), or unpleasant (swimming through a tunnel in ice, crawling through a gravelly and stony trench, crawling in water getting shocked with 10,000 volts, running though wires of 10,000 volts). It's as hard as you want it to be, and you can avoid any obstacles you don't want to do. Some of the hard obstacles are a lot easier with teamwork (such as climbing over the 12 foot wall). Also, it depends how fast you do it in. Me and my friend tried to go for a good time (bar the first 2 miles waiting for teammates, one of whom must weigh about 20+ stone). When I approached the penultimate obstacle (about 400 yards from the finish line), the guy said that most of the people coming through started the course between 9:00 and 9:30 (we started 9:45). The rest of the team finished in 3 hours 35. Me and the friend were discussing whether we'd do it again, and we said that if we did, we'd take it a bit more seriously and aim for the 2 hours mark.
Jon Posted June 9, 2013 Posted June 9, 2013 Is it tougher to do with Ginger hair? must increase the difficulty a fair bit.
MoogleViper Posted June 9, 2013 Author Posted June 9, 2013 Is it tougher to do with Ginger hair? must increase the difficulty a fair bit. Well (when waiting an hour for the rest of the team) I did get sunburnt. Was it actually really hard? Just to add a bit more onto this, the average time of finishing is 3 and a half hours, and an average of 78% of people finish the course.
