Choze Posted October 19, 2014 Posted October 19, 2014 Yeah largely agreed. I disagree about the next gen bit. It is next gen(not sure what they were doing) but its so uninspired. The tracks are ok(scenery wise) but you simply cant see the outside bits of a track when driving! weird design that only works for replays. Too bad the game doesnt have any replays either... The gameplay is ok. Probably the stronger part of the game. The structure and club elements are a joke. DriveClub requires you to join or make a club(6 person limit). Games that do this and hide unlocks behind this feature deserve to be derided. Its stupid design. Nothing about the structure works so well either. Handling is ok but i cant figure out whether its better to squeeze into a barrier or push the brake. Its a failing many arcade racers make nowadays. Such a dissapointment. I am already playing other games again. At its best. It looks great and plays well but its not that common between the rubberband AI and poor handling etc. Shame its packaged so blandly. Regret my purchase. The game needs the proposed patches badly yet they werent ready for launch! I'd say its a clear 6 or 7/10 game for me so far. The weakest first party PS game in a while.
Cookyman Posted October 20, 2014 Posted October 20, 2014 (edited) My concerns, and I understand this is a controversial opinion, is how utterly bland this game is. The graphics are (imo) average, the environments boring, and the tracks aren't the most inspired design I've seen in a racing game. Next Gen, this is not. I would hardly call the graphics average, the first set of courses in India are probably the blandest but once you start racing on the other tracks you should start to appreciate the graphics more. Racing at different times of the day also makes a massive difference, some of the lighting effects are truly jaw dropping. Wait till we see photo modes, replays and weather effects kicking in and I think you'll retract your statement "Next Gen, this is not" or maybe you won't lol it is after all your opinion and your entitled to it. you simply cant see the outside bits of a track when driving! weird design that only works for replays. Too bad the game doesnt have any replays either... No idea what you mean but there are 6 camera views and as for replays its coming in a patch. The structure and club elements are a joke. DriveClub requires you to join or make a club(6 person limit). Games that do this and hide unlocks behind this feature deserve to be derided. Its stupid design. The game does not require you to join a club but why would you not? Evolution did not anticipate players being disconnected from the server so tied some unlocks with being online this will be addressed in a patch in other words once you unlock them they remain unlocked regardless if your online or not. At its best. It looks great and plays well but its not that common between the rubberband AI and poor handling etc The devs seem to disagree with you with regards to the AI The AI cannot cheat, and will never artificially catch up to you! They will slow down a little though if you get to far behind. Some cars are faster than others, and the AI will look for an opportunity to overtake when the player names a mistake. Regret my purchase. The game needs the proposed patches badly yet they werent ready for launch! I'd say its a clear 6 or 7/10 game for me so far. The weakest first party PS game in a while. You regretted your purchase by forgetting to cancel you pre-order which you ordered on the strength of the beta . If you hate the game so much change you avatar from a Driveclub one Anyway, here is my opinion. Firstly having the online messed up so badly as it is right now is a hugely damaging blow the game. The challenges section has never been available, which is a huge part of the social ethos of the game. So looking at the game as it stands we have graphically strong title which has excellent nuanced controls with a terrific sense of speed. It's a great little racer which should have had the replays, weather and photo modes all included at launch but due to their absence and the online issues it's a shadow of the game it should be. My advice is to leave the game for another couple of weeks until these online issues are addressed. Let's face it there plenty other games to keep you busy right now. It's hardly ideal I know but then give the game another chance I think you'll be glad you did. Edited October 20, 2014 by Cookyman

I'm hoping once the online is fully working, the competition that this type of game inherently brings will pull me in. I do derive fun from 'leaderboard chasing', it's why Trials is one of my favorite games of all time. Perhaps my expectations were a little high for Sony's machine. I would have expected that the most powerful console in the world today could handle at least 1080p60 with decent textures and lighting in a racing title of this type. I suppose I'm also spoiled by PC racing games I've been playing lately. Grid 2 springs to mind and was free this weekend - and it looks proper next gen!

Keep the faith man, I think once the challenges are implemented this will become ultra competitive and will be right up your street!

I agree that the game is worse than the beta somehow right now as its not functioning normally. Its been a while and they havent fixed this junk. However the beta also was restricted features wise anyhow. Was hard to tell features wise what the game had. I could have made worse purchases. The game isnt bad but it could have been better. As it is I would have preffered any of Sony studios PS3 racers. Graphics wise its good but there are some design issues. Some tracks are sub par looking, others look stunning. Next gen it is but their priorities are odd. As it is other racers will top this soon. You need a club to unlock some content sadly. This is a dumb decision imo. they messed up on this. Yeah i am gonna wait for the update so its working properly.
liger05 Posted October 21, 2014 Posted October 21, 2014 I really don't know how Sony can still plaster this all over PSN store with no disclaimer advising that online multiplayer is a mess. The game is a clusterfuck.
Cookyman Posted October 22, 2014 Posted October 22, 2014 The game is a clusterfuck. So what is this game?
Jimbob Posted October 22, 2014 Posted October 22, 2014 Online is certainly more stable for me than it ever has been, still a few disconnections (but only for a short time) but hopefully they iron them out. Managed to clear the semi-pro races last night, in the process unlocking a few more cars (including one for the club). Will push to clear the Pro races over the next few days, see what that brings. Wonder what sort of tracks we'll be getting for free?
James Posted October 22, 2014 Posted October 22, 2014 Oh my days. I've played three online races in a row. THREE!
Cookyman Posted October 22, 2014 Posted October 22, 2014 Oh my days. I've played three online races in a row. THREE! It's slowly getting better! Can't deny the graphics though:
Cookyman Posted October 25, 2014 Posted October 25, 2014 Online is now super stable and leaderboards are updating immediately. Ghost racers are now working all the time in time trials. Face offs are happening both in single and multiplayer now too. Challenges are still not working but I'd expect them anytime soon. So as leaderboards are updating again I've went on most race circuits and set some times. I've been playing this a lot and our club level has risen considerably because of it! (leaderboards not only record fastest times overall but the fastest times for individual cars too!)
Jimbob Posted October 27, 2014 Posted October 27, 2014 The beauty of Driveclub is, you can play for 5 minutes or 5 hours. Every little helps i see it as. I've not been on since last week, will have a few races this week and add to the club.
Fierce_LiNk Posted October 27, 2014 Posted October 27, 2014 I'm basically drowning at the moment. I'm hooked on FIFA (particularly the Pro Clubs mode) and then Alien Isolation during the night time. I can't find the time for this and Destiny, let alone the last two month's worth of PS+ games. I've made a deal with myself not to buy any more games until I've cleared the current round. I really, really want that dynamic weather and part of me is probably not going balls-deep into this game until that comes.

I really, really want that dynamic weather and part of me is probably not going balls-deep into this game until that comes. I've virtually given up on Destiny for the time being, until the DLC comes out. It's giving me a chance to clear my backlog at the moment, 2-3 games a month. I'm on target for that, having cleared Watch Dogs and Kirby already. The dynamic weather will be interesting to say the least, especially if it works like the day/night cycle at the moment. Imagine driving along, and get hit by a torrential rain storm or snow shower. That makes for some interesting driving.
Rowan Posted October 28, 2014 Posted October 28, 2014 Bit odd but does anyone else's disc of DC have the Dolby Pro Logic logo and not Dolby Digital?
Fierce_LiNk Posted October 30, 2014 Posted October 30, 2014 Bit odd but does anyone else's disc of DC have the Dolby Pro Logic logo and not Dolby Digital? I imagine that a lot of people bought this game digitally since it was pretty cheap. So, I can't help you there. I downloaded an update for this earlier and was half-expecting it to be the dynamic weather update. It was not. I am now a sad panda. :'( Game is beautiful, though. I played it for about an hour and have been reminded of its beauty. I really like it and will try to make more of an effort playing it.
Daft Posted October 30, 2014 Posted October 30, 2014 Weather was meant to hit in December. Although with all the problems, I wouldn't be surprised if it were pushed back.
liger05 Posted October 30, 2014 Posted October 30, 2014 Message from Shuhei Yoshida - President of World Wide Studios Hi everyone, I wanted to provide you with the latest update on DRIVECLUB. Unfortunately, the road to launch has been a little rocky, and we are truly sorry that so many of you have not been able to enjoy everything that we had hoped DRIVECLUB would deliver. We have been listening to your feedback and realize that patience understandably is running out. Evo is working around the clock to close the gap, and we have deployed additional engineering resources to help resolve the remaining issues as soon as possible. Unfortunately, the time frames required to roll out the fully connected experience will be longer than anticipated and we do not have an exact time frame for when they will be resolved. We will continue to update you on progress and you can find the latest info on the DRIVECLUB Facebook page. We are also very conscious that we have disappointed so many of you who were looking forward to playing the promised PS Plus Edition. Our first priority is to provide you with the best possible experience while playing DRIVECLUB. With the high volume of new players and additional server load the PS Plus Edition is anticipated to bring, we are currently not confident that we can guarantee the best online experience. Until we can ensure that everyone can enjoy the full social connected online experience, we will be postponing the release of the PS Plus Edition until further notice. On behalf of WWS we are enormously grateful for your patience and we thank you for the continued support and encouragement. Again, we sincerely apologize for the delay. We are committed to giving you the best racing experience on PS4 – it’s taking a little longer than we hoped. Confirmation of the shambles of the launch which this has been. PS+ version nowhere to be seen anytime soon.
Daft Posted October 30, 2014 Posted October 30, 2014 Did anyone really need confirmation? Still, at least they've said something about it. I probably won't touch this until the weather patch. Which is fine because I'm still playing Destiny.
James Posted October 30, 2014 Posted October 30, 2014 I come home from work everyday as they say on twitter each new day more and more people are connecting online . so I try it, I get booted out of most lobbies and have about 2 races out of 15. Its like nothing is getting better and clearly a fucking shambles.

Its like nothing is getting better and clearly a fucking shambles. This might explain the difficulties they're having a little more. From the head of Playstation France, "in the coding of the game driveclub , a mistake has been made preventing enough people to play at the same time.... This is being re-programmed but it takes a lot more time than simply add 1000,2000,3000 servers.... we need more than a simple patch, the problem resides in the code and the way the network accepts sessions.... I have no idea when it will be solved".
Cookyman Posted October 30, 2014 Posted October 30, 2014 It's been commonly known that it was a software issue and not a server issue for some time, Evolution have been very open about it. The Beta testing did not throw up any of these software issues so they only came to light once customers logged on and the whole thing went kaput! I kind of feel sorry for Evolution as they are working their arses off trying to fix this and when they update on Facebook get nothing but abuse. It's disappointing but it will get fixed and there's a shit ton of games coming out to keep you busy, despite the fact it's not working 100% I've been playing the crap out of it.
Fierce_LiNk Posted October 30, 2014 Posted October 30, 2014 It's disappointing. I'll hold back on playing more of it until the issues are sorted out. It's a shame, the game itself is very good.
