Sheikah
The Japanese are very easily moved by 1 'currently hot' thing, be it a game or a console. It's pretty much why I expect the PS4 to do reasonably well when the next console DQ or FF game hits.

liger05
It's worrying that the n3DS isn't enough to take the sales over the same period last year. This is why I am not so convinced the next handheld will be as late as 2017 as I just don't see the platform having enough life in it to go another 3 years at the required rate. One thing for sure is the 3DS 2015 is going to need some major games.

Given the series recent outings on Nintenfo platforms you would think Wii U would be the safe bet. At the same time S-E are supporting the PS4 with FF games, Kingdom Hearts and the DQ Dynasty Warriors style game. There's also the added bonus of being able to port it relatively easy between the PS4 and the One. I think if the DW style game numbers are good then it will be a lock for at least the PS4. I think with the recent DQ themed PS4 and breaking of the 10 year drought of no DQ on PlayStation consoles that it really ups the chances of seeing it on PS4. The Wii U has pretty much bombed in all regions and Square Enix are happily using PS consoles to push our their home console content for FF and KH. True that DQX made it to Wii U but they must surely know that elsewhere in the world, if such a game were to ever be released it should not be on Wii U. A quick look around also tells them that big hitter games like Persona are coming to PS4...just seems right to me. We'll see anyhow. Could even be something like with Ni No Kuni, where it went from a Nintendo handheld to PS3. Edited December 17, 2014 by Sheikah

Hero-of-Time
DQXI should release on the 3DS. That makes the most commercial sense. Horii has stated that he wants DQXI to be played on a big screen and that it wouldn't be heading to mobile or handheld devices. DQVIII is regarded by many as the best in the series and I think the developers want to create those big, open worlds again and not be hampered by handheld technology. As @killer kirby used to say, Dragon Quest always goes to the most popular machine at the time. If we accept Wii U as having underperformed (which I take no pleasure in saying) and PS4 likely to be more successful in Japan (which it may be already, I don't know), then DQ XI should be headed for the PS4. There are quite a few reasons I think the series is better on Sony. Tonally, VIII was a little bit more devilish than the others. It was also more ambitious. This is a hard point to make, but when creating a game for the DS, say, I can't help but think there's a slight element of "Let's make it more for kids". I also think Sony might be better at promoting XI, and making sure it comes Westward in the first place. If we give Nintendo a free pass for not helping X to be released in Europe (which I do), I'm still very disappointed they haven't made sure we got VII. Sony could also cross-promote it with Final Fantasy again. All in all, I think DQ XI has got more chance of being great with Sony. And trust me, I really, really need Dragon Quest back in my life again, firing on all cylinders!
Sheikah
DQXI should release on the 3DS. That makes the most commercial sense. What totally weird reasoning. For one, you're not a shareholder. Yes, we want companies to succeed so they can continue to make games (and we quite rightly should take an interest in their profits), but as a gamer you should also want a great experience, not another crappy lite version (which DQ9 absolutely was compared to its predecessor, DQ8). Why not have a fantastic, polished version that also makes great money? PS4 games dominate the monthly charts throughout a lot of the Western world, although not Japan, and even saying that, DQ is exactly the kind of game where people will follow it. If it wasn't, they wouldn't be planning it for home console. People bunk off work to play this game - if it's on PS4 then they will buy a PS4 to play it on that. People in Japan will also want to buy a PS4 to play Persona, Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts, Tales. It's inevitable that many Japanese people will want to buy the console to pick up these games anyway, as an added incentive on top of this game if it came to PS4. None of this matter anyway as they have already confirmed it is already coming to a home console. In which case, I doubt even you would argue against PS4 as being the best choice. Japan is also DQ's biggest market by a country mile. A DQ game would perform more than adequately well on Wii U both in terms of sales and aesthetics. DQ is a phenom over there, it's unlike nearly every other franchise. It doesn't just sell the game, it shifts hardware by the bucket load. If it's on Wii U it will make the console more successful. Nintendo should be courting S-E to get in on its platform, perhaps leveraging amiibo as an advantage.

If all anyone was ever interested in was the number of consoles out there then FFXIII and the Tales games would have all been Wii only last gen. Fact is, PS4 has been out half as long and currently has next to no games Japanese players particularly rave on about, yet has sold half the units of the Wii U. Then you look at games like FFXV, Kingdom Hearts 3 and Persona that are all massive games and coming to PS4. Again, if the Wii U was so obviously the right choice because more Japanese people have Wii Us then they would all be coming to Wii U instead, at least in Japan. The big games are coming to PS4 so the sales are bound to follow. Speak for yourself. I would gladly take the game on the 3DS. Good job they're not catering to you then. I don't want another DQ Lite. Wii
UK software sales for this week. Surprised CT:TT isn't even on the Wii U chart. It had sales before the 20th. If your using the PS2 game as an example then there is no reason for this not be done on the 3DS if that's where the next game goes. So what you're saying is, you're happy for them to make a game that will only look on par with a game made 10 years ago? Fuck that. Why gimp their ambitions? The best experience they can produce is on home console with the might of the PS4 behind it. Ok, arguably it's PC, but the audience for this kind of game isn't really there. Thank god they've already admitted that they're making it for some home console rather than handheld, as this really wouldn't belong there. Going back to my age old favourite example: Ni No Kuni PS3 That's on PS3, and look at that. It could be even more! Really good week for Nintendo overall. I think MK8 will reach the 1,000,000 milestone before the end of the Wii U life cycle. Wii U has sold less this year than last with Mk8 and Smash Bros. It's had a horrible sales period during the holidays in Japan. So many 3DS titles in the top 20!!! Phantasy star nova on Vita is such a bomba
Grazza
So what you're saying is, you're happy for them to make a game that will only look on par with a game made 10 years ago? Fuck that. Why gimp their ambitions? The best experience they can produce is on home console with the might of the PS4 behind it. Ok, arguably it's PC, but the audience for this kind of game isn't really there. Thank god they've already admitted that they're making it for some home console rather than handheld, as this really wouldn't belong there. Going back to my age old favourite example: Ni No Kuni PS3 That's on PS3, and look at that. It could be even more! This is one of those things I'm really in the middle about. When I heard Dragon Quest IX was going to be on the DS, I was really against it. I think anyone who truly played DQ VIII would realise what a technical downgrade it was. I mean, honestly, think back to all the terrain, and all the castles you could explore, look down from the battlements etc. But you know what? Dragon Quest IX was a very, very good game. I'm still not sure it was worth the downgrade (in fact, it wasn't - at a push I'd rather have had another the quality of VIII) but I can't help but think they created a new experience - the handheld Dragon Quest. Ever since IX I've wanted that experience again - on the Vita or, yes, the 3DS. Maybe not Dragon Quest XI, but more like IX-2, IX-3 etc. As for Ni No Kuni, I'd say DQ IX was a much better game. The actual towns in Ni No Kuni were good-looking, but they were the only real aspect that seemed PS3-worthy. The overworld and buildings were definitely sub-DQ VIII. I dislike the "graphics don't matter" attitude, but I honestly think we've reached the stage now (at least with RPGs) where the amount of passion that goes into it, along with the size of the budget, are far more important than specs, even in terms of whether it appears technically impressive. None of this means I don't want DQ XI on the PS4, however. I do - I think it's easily the best console for it. I just wouldn't be gutted if it was for handheld again this time round. Sheikah
Oh yeah, I agree that although No No Kuni looked better, the design of the environments and battle system was much better in DQ. I guess I'm saying I'd rather have the team make their game on the PS4 so it can done to a bigger scale and look seriously nice. Assuming they put the same effort in whether it went to handheld or console. Kinda like what they're doing with FFXV (which looks bleeding amazing). Would love another offline console DQ, and for the first time in HD.
Wii
Wii U Has Apparently Sold 8 Million Units Worldwide Since Launch In 2012 The Wii U has reportedly sold 8 million units worldwide since the system launched back in 2012. Nintendo’s latest home console has sold in total 8.22 million units worldwide thanks to a good Christmas due to Super Smash Bros and Mario Kart 8. It’s still got a way to go to beat the other consoles with regards to sales, but it’s certainly good progress. http://mynintendonews.com/2014/12/27/wii-u-has-apparently-sold-8-million-units-worldwide-since-launch-in-2012/ I reached the milestone as of December 13, 2014, where it sold 220,529 units for the week. Wii
This weeks UK sales chart is out. http://www.chart-track.co.uk/index.jsp?c=p/software/uk/latest/index_test.jsp&ct=110015 Still no sign of Captain Toad. It's not even on the Wii U specific chart. Are they hoarding the sales information until it's official release date at which point it'll be its 3rd week technically on sale and is that even possible or allowed? I'll have the respective chart images up shortly. Smash Bros. Wii U is clinging on in there. Also, how does MK8 make it into the all formats chart but not the individual chart?
