Rummy Posted July 12, 2012 Posted July 12, 2012 I know there's a thread, but essentially my phone's being a cunt and I might get so fed up with it I'll get another; I'm just wondering what/where's good for a decent budget Android smartphone(non-contract), maybe looking at £100? £120 tops?
Cube Posted July 12, 2012 Posted July 12, 2012 If you don't mind Orange or going out of your way to unlock it: http://compare.ebay.co.uk/like/150795861592?var=lv<yp=AllFixedPriceItemTypes&var=sbar&cbt=y Orange San Francisco II. It's sold out of all normal stores so you'll have to get one from eBay, Playtrade or Amazon Market.
Rummy Posted July 12, 2012 Author Posted July 12, 2012 Did consider that one, I believe Marcamillian has the first one. How difficult is an Android to unlock, though? I'd need to be on o2 really. If it's an easy enough jobby to unlock at home I'd do it though.
Cube Posted July 12, 2012 Posted July 12, 2012 http://community.giffgaff.com/t5/Learn-giffgaff-Top-Tips/GUIDE-How-to-Unlock-Orange-San-Francisco-II-For-Dummies/td-p/2880715 There's the unlock guide. (Your current phone's "cuntinshness" isn't to do with signal, is it?
Rummy Posted July 12, 2012 Author Posted July 12, 2012 "cum hoc ergo propter hoc" Indeed no, it is not the signal issue that has also blighted o2 and piggybacking networks. My phone, as posted in the android thread, constantly answers and makes calls with automatic loudspeaker. From what I can gather, especially given my tried solutions, it must be a semi-hardware issue and I think it's probably some sort of issue associated with a.) the usb port making it think it's constantly docked and b.) how often I have dropped the bloody thing. I don't do calls all that often so tbh I could probably learn to live with it, but ultimately in the long run it might be enough of an issue to warrant a different phone given the implications of answering a call under the pressure of the fact someone's calling you, and then not quite realising the fact it does so on loudspeaker as it's close to your ear.
Shorty Posted July 13, 2012 Posted July 13, 2012 I know your budget was half this but: SIM Free HTC Sensation is £247 at Asda http://direct.asda.com/HTC-Sensation-XE-Mobile-Phone-with-Beats-Audio/008721455,default,pd.html But for £36 a month for only 12 months you could get the top of the range One X (with £50 quidco cashback) http://www.dialaphone.co.uk/aw2/basketnew.aspx?addoc=12VFONEX11&qty=1&ins=1
Mr_Odwin Posted July 13, 2012 Posted July 13, 2012 Similar to Shorty, more expensive but ... I was looking at this for my Dad's birthday present. http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B007N1JTEM/ref=asc_df_B007N1JTEM8681965?smid=A2NQMYP32Q5S5Y&tag=googlecouk06-21&linkCode=asn&creative=22218&creativeASIN=B007N1JTEM&fb_source=message
david.dakota Posted July 14, 2012 Posted July 14, 2012 For around £100 the Huawei Ascend 300 is phenomenal value and a decent smartphone too.
