CooInTheZoo Posted September 18, 2005 Posted September 18, 2005 A while back i downloaded a movie player that sorted out out the codecs for a file that wouldnt open properly (whenever i loaded it in windows media player it would say they were faulty and only play sound) and now im in the same situation but i cant remember what program i used. can anyone please suggest a free pc program i can play my movie file in?
Blackfox Posted September 18, 2005 Posted September 18, 2005 I used to get that a lot too. I downloaded Winamp (better than WMP) and still had the problem, then I downloaded divX and my movies worked when I opened them in winamp. Ditto. DivX is the way forwards.
Jack Posted September 18, 2005 Posted September 18, 2005 I use Media Player Classic. Functional, easy to use and doesn't hog system resources.
Space Posted September 18, 2005 Posted September 18, 2005 I recommend the K-Lite Mega Codec Pack. When you install it you get Media Player Classic and it can play Quicktime, Real Media, DivX and all sorts of other formats without the need for other players. This means you don't need to install Quicktime, Real Player etc. Some mirror links: (all the same file, just in case one server doesn't work) http://dl.codecpack.nl/k/klmcodec137.exe http://i1.edskes.com/k/klmcodec137.exe http://i2.edskes.com/klmcodec137.exe http://j1.edskes.com/klmcodec137.exe http://j2.edskes.com/klmcodec137.exe The homepage is actually: http://home.hccnet.nl/h.edskes/finalbuilds.htm
Mr_Odwin Posted September 18, 2005 Posted September 18, 2005 VLC Media Player is also very good for playing stuff that others can't. Combined with the codec pack Space recommended you'll be invincible.

Yes, i haven't encountered anything that the VLC MP cannot handlke (albeit i haven't tried all that much, but i've been through a fair few different codecs.

Teknoman Posted September 18, 2005 Posted September 18, 2005 I would like to recommend mplayer for windows for any type of video file you can't play properly. You can download it here: http://hchrist.speed.planet.nl/mplayer.php It is very easy to use, you just drag and drop your videofile on the mplayer icon and mplayer plays it. You can go forwards and backwards in the video with the arrow keys. The benefit of using mplayer as opposed to using another videoplayer is that mplayer uses it's own decoding libaries, so even if your pc's codecs are FUBAR , you can still use mplayer.
RoadKill Posted September 18, 2005 Posted September 18, 2005 Anyone who mentioned VideoLAN in this thread has the right idea. http://www.videolan.org It's the simplest one download solution for playing almost any video. If you have issues with playing videos in VideoLAN (VLC Media Player), please come back to us.
