mcj metroid Posted July 1, 2009 Posted July 1, 2009 I;m surprised I only heard of this now.. http://www.gametrailers.com/video/space-track-speed-zone/49637 Information is kinda hard to come by but it looks very like f-zero gx and is 8-player split screen!!
dwarf Posted July 1, 2009 Posted July 1, 2009 If it's a Wiiware game then it looks OK, which I think it is. This sort of game is about the entertainment. However it doesn't really look as if it'll entertain a whole lot if I were just to go by this video. Visually it isn't great either, art style --- well, it's going for virtual reality I think but there's no shine or anything that could put you in awe? Plus the actual graphics are far behind GX on the GC. Meh, we'll see.
mcj metroid Posted July 1, 2009 Author Posted July 1, 2009 I really don't think it's a wiiware game... archer Maclean insists youtube vids wont do it justice but I Have to say it doesn't come close to gx... but I don't give a shit about grapphics as long as there is a good sense of speed..
Retro_Link Posted July 1, 2009 Posted July 1, 2009 (edited) The writing scattered throughout that video refers to the game as Speedway Alpha, so it's presumably an Alpha build of what will be a full Wii game. Looks very uninspired at the moment though in terms of offering up anything new, and with the tracks etc... also looks pretty slow; so they'll need to do a lot of work on this imo. DazzeL Posted July 1, 2009 Posted July 1, 2009 Again, my first impression was that this was a WiiWare game. In it's current state (not just graphics but also art and track design) the only place that this going to end up is in the bargain bin.
Fierce_LiNk Posted July 1, 2009 Posted July 1, 2009 The 6/8 player split-screen is a neat idea, but I dunno how it would work in practice. A lot of people find four player split-screen difficult (not me, I love it), so I dunno how 8 would work. It looks very raw, but if more work is done to it then this could be a nice little game.
Emasher Posted July 1, 2009 Posted July 1, 2009 If the graphics, art and design in general pick up before release, its a maybe from me. I don't plat a lot of local multiplayer anymore, and racing isn't my favorite genre. If I see it for $19.99 or lower, perhaps, but otherwise I'm not sure.
K-project Posted July 2, 2009 Posted July 2, 2009 Presuming this is a full price release and not a WiiWare game, let's not lie to the developer here - it looks bad. Really bad. It looks like they took Extreme G off the N64, put cars in instead of bikes, and thought "hey, that'll do"! What's up with the racing game genre on the Wii? We have the marvellous Excite Truck and Mario Kart, aaaand nothing else.
