Pancake Posted January 22, 2009 Posted January 22, 2009 I just bought a new laptop with Vista installed, but i wasn't given a Vista disc with it. In the past, whenever i've bought a desktop pc, there's always been a disc with the Windows version on it, incase you have computer problems and have to re-install Windows. In my experience with computer - a Windows re-install disc is essential. I've had start up problems where the computer would have been useless if i hadn't re-installed Windows. So i'm really worried about not having one for this laptop. Is it standard for retailers to not give discs out for laptops??
Cube Posted January 22, 2009 Posted January 22, 2009 I think that some laptops have the windows disk built into the machine (i.e. you can reinstall windows without the disk).
Mr_Odwin Posted January 22, 2009 Posted January 22, 2009 Yeah, it's likely there's a restore partition on your hdd.
Ten10 Posted January 23, 2009 Posted January 23, 2009 There may also be an option to create a recovery disc yourself using said partition data. Check your manual.
Shorty Posted January 23, 2009 Posted January 23, 2009 with my advent 4211 there's a recovery partition, and you can also use some built in software to create a recovery usb drive.
