Paj! Posted January 13, 2009 Posted January 13, 2009 Hey, I'm a Mac user, and was just wondering, as I watch a lot of DVDs on it, I'd love to know if it was region-free. I want Season 2 of Twin Peaks, but to buy it for this region is very expensive, but it's decently priced were I to get Region 1. My dad mentioned something about it locking onto a certain region after a few DVDs of that region have been used in it... Anyone know?
ShavenWolf Posted January 13, 2009 Posted January 13, 2009 You can play DVDs from any region on a Mac for up to - I think - 5 times using the standard DVD player included. However, I'm 99.8% sure VLC can play region free DVDs http://www.videolan.org/vlc/
Paj! Posted January 13, 2009 Author Posted January 13, 2009 So wait...I can't play Region 1's on my Mac of 2 years, on which I've played zillions of Region 2 DVD's? Is that the gist? Thanks for that link...I'll look into it.
Ashley Posted January 13, 2009 Posted January 13, 2009 VLC is all you'll ever need to watch anything anywhere anytime...with anyone... Yeah. With VLC you need nothing else.
Jon Posted January 13, 2009 Posted January 13, 2009 VLC, though there are reports that it doesn't work on newer macs. Never tried it myself though You can change the region drive of your mac up to 5 times. It becomes permanent after the fifth change.
